I don't like "naming" courts after anyone, but if EC chooses to do so, Anderson would be a good choice.
If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

So at this point, UWO has the #24 (Wojahn,) #25 (Kitkowski,) and #32 (Royston) players in the State according to Mark Miller?  Not too shabby!

This class on paper could rival the one that Buchanan put together at Superior two years back, while there is a chance that there could be one or two more Top 50 players rounding out the 2009 recruiting class.

A couple of letters to the editor have been published recently, and then there's this column today in the Eau Claire Leader-Telegram, suggesting UWEC should name the basketball court after coach Ken Anderson...

  http://www.leadertelegram.com/story-sports.asp?id=BJHRBVSRJ18

What do you guys think? He was, in his 27 years as a coach in EC, one of the nation's all-time winningest coaches in all of college basketball, with a .806 winning percentage (631-152).

But in your minds would he, for this honor, have had to have won NCAA titles like Bo Ryan and Jack Bennett did?

Just curious what you all would think???

Ken Anderson, for all his wins and success in Zorn Arena, has thumbed his nose at the University, the community, and all of the people who played a  part in the Blugold success.  He hasn't been to a game there for 15 years or so I don't think and he still resides here most of the year.  Anyone ever wonder why Anderson is never a part of any of the Alumni games?  Check with all of those great players of his era and ask them if "Zorn" should be called " Anderson".  My guess is you would get a different answer than you would from the Ryan, Bennett, and Bennett players.

Just for clarity, nobody was trying to rename Zorn Arena. We were discussing the naming of the floor.

Just for more clarity, yes, I got that.

I heard some talk at the Boys WIAA State Basketball Tournament that UW Superior may be getting a transfer from D2 Minnesota-Duluth for the 2009-10 season.

Anyone happen to know if there is any truth to former Baldwin-Woodville standout Marcus Helland suiting up for the Yellow Jackets this season?  At 6'6 he would definitely help the insdie game for Superior.

That would be a big boost to UW-S but Helland while not playing huge minutes was part of Duluth's rotation.

He played in 29 of 31 games, averaged 9 minutes per game.  The year before he played in 26 of 28 games vaergaing 13 minutes per game.

This year he played behind two outstanding seniors John Vaudrueil (Sr) and Brian Sykora (Jr).  Both were outstanding.  Helland is earmarked for a big jump in minutes next year!

Angler refuses rescue, says fish were biting

OSHKOSH -- A fisherman floating on a Lake Winnebago ice slab refused to be rescued, telling authorities he wanted to stay because the fish were biting.

Winnebago County sheriff's officials said Joseph Dake used a ladder across open water to get to the ice slab, about a quarter- mile from shore.

Officials said the slab was connected to ice that led to shore, but a large crack had formed.

There was a large crack that formed between Point, Platteville, Whitewater and the rest of the WIAC this year too.  Maybe the fish don't bite in those three towns.  ???

I read that too fast and thought it said that the boys WIAA State Basketball Tournament was moving to UW Superior...

Well you can add the #49th ranked player in the State by Mark Miller to the list now as well.  Adams-Friendship's Lance Fritz, a 6'0" guard, has decided to play at UWO next season.

So if he refused the rescue and the crack was large enough that he needed one how did he eventually get off the ice?

Since no one reported him being off the ice - could it be that he's still fishing...or simply floating around...or both?

Well I called the UW-O Athletic Department and they confirmed that it couldn't be Ted because Asst. Coach Tim Gaubatz was in the office and therefore wasn't there to drill the holes for him.
