"If we play good and they play good, we're losing."  ...  Tom Izzo

Methinks Tom is channeling Lou Holtz!  As arguably the best defensive team in the country, it is MSU's job to see to it that UNC doesn't play well! ;)

[As to 'good' instead of 'well' - Tom's a Yooper! :D]

My guess is that Tom is trying to psych up his players.

but he is right.  They need to get UNC out of their comfort zone.

Well, the defense finally shut down UNC in the second half (alas, the offense forgot to ever arrive), but I have no clue what happened the first ten minutes. :'(

MSU won the last 30 minutes.  Unfortunately, that is not how the game is scored. :(

I would have to say it was the nerves, or the great pressure by UNC.  MSU had problems all year with turnovers, and when after the 7 first half steals by Ty Lawson, of which I'd say 3 occured when UNC would score and he would be waiting in the weeds to pick off the inbounds pass and MSU didn't make adjustments in taking care of the ball they didn't stand a chance.

It seemed that UNC got off to such a great start that MSU paniced and tried to force things.  It's also apparent that UNC simply had better players no matter how you look at it.

::)  Come on ... what do you expect with a 20+ lead in the first half.  MSU was NEVER in the game, whenever they got close UNC slammed the door or MSU's ineptitude prevented them from making a game out of it!

Blog from this weekend's Final Four with a few paragraphs on Coach Bo Ryan:

"During this time, head coach Bo Ryan and associate coach Greg Gard came down to congratulate Marcus [Landry] on a good game. We didn't have a chance to talk with them long as Coach Ryan was also popular in the stands with the autograph seekers. It was interesting, but probably not surprising, to see Coach Ryan seek out the Division III Player of the Year Jimmy Bartolotta from MIT, and introduce himself. He chatted briefly with him about his history as a D-III coach and congratulated him on a great game and a great season."

From a poster on Wis. Sports Net, and I have no idea if its accurate, about WW recruits.

Word on the street is that they could possibly have 3 big time recruits coming in.

Matt Smith-Transferring from Winona St.
Dan Tillema-Transferring from Oshkosh
Lucas Burns-Transferring from the school in Minnesota he was at.

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Lucas Burns is Division 2 Concordia-St. Paul's roster.  It appears he redshirted this past season.  He's a 6'6"  F from Janesville Craig.

Matt Smith is a 3rd year sophomore at Winona State.  He broke is thumb mid-year and missed the majority of the season.  The 6'8" F/C from Burlington Catholic Central won a national chmapionship with Winona State playing as a backup to their All-American center last season.

Dan Tillema from Randolph played half of one season for Division 2 Minnesota-Duluth.  He was solidily in their playing rotation when he severly hurt his ankle.  He left the program at the end of the first semester transferring to UW-Oshkosh.  This past year he did not play basketball for the Titans.

Don't fret yet ... I'm not sure any of them are committed yet ... even if the rumor is true!

Regarding a question I posed here recently on naming the court in UWEC's Zorn Arena after Ken Anderson -

The local paper had it as the question of the week this week, with an interesting response from UWSP's Jack Bennett, who says we may be surprised at how he feels, but he is, indeed, in favor of it...

He was on Coach Anderson's staff for five years, and perhaps they butted heads over a few things, as he admits, but Bennett shows the class that he, as a coach, I have always admired...

Well said, Bulk 19.   You and I have had this conversation about Anderson and I think we are on the same page.  As usual, Jack Bennett says it best.  Bennett and Anderson both had a passion for winning.  In my opinion, the Anderson/Bennett rift happened because Anderson didn't like his assistant getting so much credit for the defense that EC played in those days.  Having said that, it's true that nobody did more to put EC on the map in college basketball than Anderson and "Anderson Court" would be a fitting tribute.  I know this sounds like a complete reversal from my last post regarding this topic but as usual, when Jack talks, I listen!  Speaking of Jack, I am tired of waiting.  Jack, you are not too old. Get your lazy butt back to what you do best.  You have had enough Florida sun, we want to watch you fired-up on some sideline again.

And don't forget the sweater vest  ;D  ;)

I am off to the sunny shores of southwest Florida for a week of tanning.   See you all later.
