Honeymoon! What were you doing out in the sun?

Not a whole lot to do now that D 3 hoops season is over. Just waiting on the next D-1 player to transfer to Whitewater. This is how I see the WIAC finishing next year. Now let the fun begin....

Stevens Point
Whitewater
Platteville
River Falls
Eau Claire
Superior
LaCrosse
Stout

Anybody here any recruiting news lately??

It appears Scott Hoezel is interested in returning to the basketball court at UWSP.

Dan and Tyler Tillema are looking at several D3 schools, possibly as a package deal.

Jerrel Harris from Whitefish Bay Dominican was at UWSP last weekend as was Matt Smith (ex-BCC) currently at D2 Winona State.

Jarvis and Javar Lawson are looking at several D3 schools together, again as a possible package deal.

Jordan Giordana from Kaukauna appears headed to UWSP ... his father's alma mater!

Too early to tell until new recruits and transfers are settled BUT if Marcus Helland ends up at UW-Superior ... they will have an outstanding team next year!

It's way too early to be making predictions about how teams will finish next year. Especially when you consider your pre-pre-season pick in Stevens Point is only returning two starters and had a short bench last year and no point guard on the team right now that would make them a top 3 team in the WIAC.

I would also assume that Oshkosh will be somewhere in the top 8, DJ Marsh could almost single handedly keep them in the top 8.

Isn't Giordana going to Stevens Point to play Football and then maybe basketball down the road?

Latest on Dan and Tyler Tillema is that they are going to Northern Iowa together. Jerrell Harris would not be looking at UWSP if Dan and especially Tyler were still considering Stevens Point.

The Lawson's to Whitewater.

And I agree Superior will be a handful next year. On paper they are the best returning team next year but with transfers and recuriting that will change some before November.

Wow!!!  I knew Oshkosh was losing quite a bit of production in DSA and Miller, but I didn't think it was so much that they wouldn't be allowed to play in the WIAC in 2009-10.   ;D

Sorry about my mistake of leaving Oshkosh out. My mistake!! I like the young guys they have coming in. I think they will be just fine next year. Here are my updated standings. It is never too early to make some predictions and have some fun!

Yeah, no offense to Semling's recruiting skills or the current players, but I don't see how Point finished #1 next year.  Losing Beamish, Rortvedt and El-Amin is huge and right now they don't have players to take over without a hitch.  I definitely hope I'm wrong, but it looks like Whitewater just reloads all the time.  River Falls and La Crosse will surprise next year.

I don't think you're going out on a limb assuming Oshkosh will be somewhere in the top 8! lol :-)  That's a bold statement!

It's good to see some recruiting news on here, but I have no idea where you guys get your information!  Which I knew someone who knew someone.

I don't know who the Tillmans or Harris are, but why wouldn't Harris come if the Tillmans were coming?  Do they play the same position?  Bad blood?

Tyler Tillema is a 6'3" point guard from Randolph.  Jerrell Harris is a 5'10" point guard from Whitefish Bay Domincan.  Both are true point guards and are being recruited as such.  I know UWW and UWSP are all over both of them (hoping to get t least one of them).

The Northern Iowa comment from UWBadgers is new to me ... regarding Tyler Tillema.

Now Tyler also has a brother - Dan (also from Randolph).  Dan signed with D2 Minnesota-Duluth out of high school, played as a freshman during the '07-'08 season before leaving at the semester and transferring to UW-Oshkosh.  He did not play basketball at all this past year.  It is interesting that he is back in the game and has been taking recruiting trips with his brother ... whether they are a "package" deal or not is unclear.

UWSP has some very good talent ... Moses, Hurd, Hoezel (if he returns), Krull and Jenkins.  Getting Matt Smith (D2-Winona State transfer) and one of these two point guard may be key for them to contend next year.

I just want to clarify the Dan and Tyler comment, Northern Iowa was one of many rumors I heard about the two of them and that was just the most recent. I do believe that if Dan elects to play college basketball next year it will be with his brother Tyler. Now that is a big IF because Dan has only managed to play one semester of college basketball in two years and it's not because of a lack of opportunities or athletic ability on his part.

Tyler is a heck of a player and if he ends up in the WIAC he will have a great shot at being a four year starter for someone, the same can be said about Jerrell Harris With that being said I think there is all but no chance they will end up at the same school. My experience tells me that because Tyler is c considered by some (myself included) to be the bigger prospect, he will decide where he wants to go first and then Mr. Harris will go from there.

I'm waiting to talk about predictions for next year but it's absolutely impossible to do at this stage in the game. Oshkosh and Superior were the only schools to announce their primarily recruiting classes so far and transfers can happen at any time. So its pointless to make any predictions at this time, at least not until we get to the pre-season (Post September 1st).

One quick question....

Are you sure it wasn't Upper Iowa that is pursuing the Tillema's?  That was the Iowa school I had heard, and not D1 Northern Iowa.

You are probably right about the Northern/Upper Iowa comment. They are both very good players but not D1, I meant the D2 Iowa school. Either way my point is that the latest RUMOR, is that they will not be in the WIAC.

Now that makes sense ... Upper Iowa is in the NSIC (Northern Sun) conference with primarily Minnesota schools including St. Cloud, Minnesota Duluth, Minnesota Mankato, Winona State ... UIU is a cellar dweller in that conference and both Tillema's would fit well with that program and be immediate upgrades.

I do know know Dan is visiting UWW this week.

QuoteWayne State College Athletic Director Eric Schoh announced today five finalists for the head men's basketball position at the school.  The five candidates will be on campus for interviews next week (Monday, April 20-Friday, April 25).

The five candidates include: Paul Combs, current head coach at Wisconsin-Platteville ...

Now this would be an interesting development at UWP!
