The first and still most accurate description of the D3 Championship BeltTM thread.

Boston 1113

I just got done looking at some of the league websites and viewing all the camps that are fast approaching. It seems like just about everyone does about 5-10 different camps now. Many schools seem to keep increasing the number of camps. Every time I see those camp listings, I think about all the players and assistant coaches who put a lot of extra time into basketball for those days. I am sure the players benefit but for the division three level I often wonder if they get paid enough for what they really do. Summer jobs probably are expected to take a back seat to the camps. I am sure the players and coaches would rather keep work their summer job to make a little extra bank for those weeks.

On another note, it is still my prediction that Will Ryan will get the job at Platteville. The resume and business aspects of hiring him make sense. The school will bring in supporters just because of the name. I think Mr. Gard will be a close 2nd, but not as many people know about his last name....

Boston 1113: Regarding Stout's schedule: Viterbo should be pretty good next year. I don't rule out them beating Stout.

Ever wonder where players from the past go? How about Jon Krull from UWSP?

Spartans open with last-second victory  -  Saturday May 9th, 2009
Anthony Johnson threw for three touchdowns, ran for another and Jon Vojta kicked the game-winning field goal with less than five seconds left Saturday, lifting the Spartans to a 38-35 victory over the Northern Wisconsin Wolverines in the season opener.

Jon Krull, a former UWSP basketball star, was on the receiving end of two of those touchdown passes and Frank Minervini caught the first touchdown in Spartan history. Kevin Thompson added a rushing touchdown.

The Spartans hit the road next week to take on the Fox Valley Force in Appleton, they will be back home on May 30th as they face the U.P. Arctic Blast at Stiehm Stadium.

Warhawk recruit:

By Mark Miller
Wishoops.net Editor

One of the state's top scorers has decided where he will play college basketball.

Nolan Free, a 6-foot-1 guard from Sheboygan North, informed UW-Whitewater coach Pat Miller of his decision to play for the Warhawks this week.

Free joins Greendale's Alex Merg, Racine St. Catherine's twins Javar and Jarvis Lawson, Concordia-St. Paul transfer Lucas Burns and Boscobel's Luke Knoble as incoming recruits for the NCAA Division III powerhouse.

Free led the state in scoring as a senior, pouring in a whopping 25.95 points per game for coach Tom Desotell while helping a very young North squad to an 11-11 record.

Ranked No. 24 among state prospects in the class of 2009 by Wishoops.net, Free can score in a variety of ways and is a physical defender on the perimeter.

"I like Nolan's versatility," Miller said. "He is obviously a very skilled offensive player, but he's also a good defender. Coming from a great program like Sheboygan North, he will be that much more prepared to play at our level."

Channel 15 in Madison had a story on Will Ryan and the Platteville job.  My 2 cents is if Will Ryan wants the job Platteville wil have a hard time saying no to.  Link to story,

The smart money is on Jeff Gard.

I am going to stick with my guess before and say Will Ryan

In response to Brian Carroll: Viterbo could win because Stout plays typically plays so inconsistent throughout the course of a season. However, Stout has Enerson-Matthews and Thomas coming back as well as some other role players. They are plenty good enough to beat Viterbo. Viterbo's recruiting class isn't great and I would probably take Thomas over Buschman in the post anyday. When Stout has a good chance to beat someone, that "someone" is probably a cupcake like Viterbo....

Anyways, I agree with wiz, I still like Will Ryan until they release the name for sure. Although that was a really interesting story in the Dubuque paper. Great find palum! Unless the Dubuque paper is getting there information from Stoutguy, it sounds like its a done deal!

Boston 1113: I mean no disrespect towards Stout when I say Viterbo might beat them. I have seen Viterbo improving, and believe this wil be one of their better seasons. La Crosse will do well if they don't look past the V-Hawks either.
