PointSpecial...

The Pointers have played JV football games for at least the past three years.  The reason I know is because they have played UWW the past three years.

I agree, without "redshirting" it is great that some of the young players get actual game experience.

I wonder if this has contributed to the successes of the two programs over this period...?  Btw, WW is preseason #2 (again) and Point is preseason #7 over on the gridiron.

Speaking of successful programs (Pt basketball), we plucked one of your guys for the Menomonie head basketball position.  Levi Massey appears to be a bright young basketball guy who has the tough job of getting Menomonie basketball on track (0-20 last year).  He is also a decent golfer as he beat the MHS AD and myself the other day.  We were playing best ball and he was playing by himself.   God, we suck.  I'm going to drop Boettcher and add Andrist next time we play him and then we'll see.

UWSP is apparently an entry in the Puget Sound Tip Off Classic Nov 20-21. That contradicts an earlier play date against Wisconsin Lutheran on the 21st.  According to Whitworth's schedule http://www.whitworth.edu/Athletics/Teams/Schedules/Index.aspx?id=2
the Pointers play the Pirates at 6PM on the 20th.  Although is doesn't appear anywhere but D3hoops, Point plays the host Loggers at 8PM on the 21st.  Very aggressive scheduling for the Pointers early in the season, playing 2 teams that finished #24 and #9 respectively last year. Long road trip to start the season.

The Loggers also make a long road trip the following week when they play in UW-Oshkosh's Holiday basketball Classic, playing UW-O and UW-EC

I've always thought that a tough early schedule helps a good team.

Reliving our trip out there in '03-'04.  Hopefully the season has the same outcome!

In other news... I just checked out UWW's schedule, and they're playing in Carthage's Tip-Off Tourney.

UW-Whitewater won't be the only WIAC school playing in Kenosha that weekend ...

SID, perhaps you'd know the answer to this question.

Has the administration at Carthage changed their position regarding their athletic teams competing against WIAC schools?

I honestly didn't talk about that with anyone, and I wouldn't want to speak for another school. We're just looking forward to be going over there in November for what should be a really, really good weekend of basketball. It's going to be a lot of fun to have both of us there.

I have a dumb theoretical question ... has the WIAC conference ever considered expansion?

With budgets being tight, schools dropping sports ...

I'm not even sure who they'd consider

Rumor has it that Rico Burkett, the recent fired head coach of D2 Wayne State College (the one that hired Paul Combs) is a candidate for the UWSP Assistant Coaching position.

Pretty solid source ... not sure if he's the final candidate but they gotta be getting close to hiring someone you would think.

I agree it should be a good weekend even though we won't play each other.  But that's fine with me.  Twice a year with the possibility of a third meeting is plenty often enough.  :D

Kieler is a nice pick up.  I remember that we recruited him pretty hard his senior season.

I'll say... I may have to make the trip up to Kenosha!
