Well, La Crosse has a scrimmage at Winona State Monday night.  Maybe at six or seven.

That makes more sense (and realizing that the Point/Parkside scrimmage it tonight, i.e. a weeknight, makes sense now too).

Greek Tragedy

I'm running the league again, but to make things easier (for me, of course), we're going with starting roster of THREE format instead of a full 5-man roster.

Same rules as last year.  We'll probably still have 2 bench players, but may go to one.  Not sure yet.

If you're interested, post your interest.

Last year we had 8 teams.  Hopefully we can get to 10 this year.  The league season starts Wednesday, Dec. 2nd.  with the regular season starting basically the weekend of Nov. 15th.

The draft will probably start that weekend to give us the usual two weeks to get the draft done.

Any questions or comments?  Post in the Fantasy League page.

Attended "Meet the Pioneers" friday night.  It looks like Alex Brown will have the task of replacing Skemp in the middle and Eric wall will be his front court mate.  Strong guard play from returning starters Hansen & Allen and from returning 6th man Shaw.  Shane Keiler a transfer from NCAA Division II Augustana College and Mitch Tordorff a freshman from Monroe shaw action with the #1.  New seating arrangement look sharp.

My spy, a Mr. Slomo, tells me that UWL beat Winona State 82-77 tonight. He says UWL looked "tough" in a victory over a D-2 Pre-Season top 25 team. I shall withhold comment after having shot off my mouth prematurely last season, but hope that this portends well for the Eagles this year.

A few things... I like UWL's new  website.  It is a vast improvement over the old site.

Also, UWL was 40/44 from the free throw line and Statton was 19/20.  These numbers are unbelievable.  If they can get 40 points per game while the clock is stopped, they are going to be really tough to beat.

It sounds like this game probably had no flow... The teams combined to shoot 74 free throws!

That is a pretty impressive win for UWL (granted it was just a scrimmage/exhibition). Shooting 44 free throws is awesome, and then hitting 40 of them.  WOW.

Stratton came on really strong last year and figures to be one of the better players in the league this year.  He can play.

Falcons looked solid in scrimmage with Concordia-St. Paul.

They "won" 72-59.  Then played an extra half, but I left.

Wade Guerin didn't play.  Jontae Koonkaew looked awesome.

Pioneers have a scrimmage tomorrow night at 6PM against Augustana here in Platteville.  Looking forward to that one.  After watching the "Blue/Orange" scrimmage last week, interested to see how they fare against someone else.  Augustana is a traditional scrimmaging partner with UWP and it can be a nice measuring stick since the Vikings are a good program and very tough tradtionally.

Few more observations from the scrimmage:

-Zach Peterson (Freshmen) started in place of the sick Wade Guerin.  He made some really athletic plays. Doesn't have Wade's height but can jump out of the gym.  Peterson has a lot to learn, made some rookie mistakes.

-Former Falcon QB Storm Harmon is playing with the Falcons this year.  Harmon broke a bone in his face during the second practice but should be back shortly.

-Concordia was extremely physical and the Falcons showed they could trade "punch for punch."

-Jontae Koonkaew looked in mid-season form.  He is extremely quick and explosive. (Not that we didnt know that already).

Thanks for these scrimmage updates.  Did anybody get to see Point against Parkside?

Jeff Skemp was just drafted with the 15th pick in the 6th round of the NBA Development League.  He goes to the Erie Bay Hawks (Cleveland and Toronto affiliates).

Good luck to Jeff in Pennsylvania

chmarx

Yes, I hope Skemp does well.

I didn't see the UWL scrimmage with Winona either.  It seems pretty impressive.  Time will tell.
