I love it (and I mean this in jest). But it's funny that a team called for FIVE fouls the entire night still can complain about the officials. I saw the play and it was a foul, I don't know if it was as blatant as it's coming across in writing, but it's still kind of amusing.

Stout women only had ten fouls themselves. Pretty relaxed with the whistles Wednesday night.

All four teams on display at Stout Wednesday are contenders in their leagues. Can't wait until the last weekend of the season when Stout goes down to La Crosse.

As far as the strategy goes. 100% right decision in my opinion, if they call the foul La Crosse probably doesn't get a shot off in regulation. To me it's only dangerous if you're trying to commit a foul near the buzzer when the player could potentially go up to shoot. It's not like the other Stout players stopped playing defense because of the foul attempt.
I think that "complaining about the officicals" as you point, out with so few calls made is still okay.  It was the situation that called for a whilstle.  I think the dangerous part of telling your kids to foul is the intentional foul call.  If the official determines that it is an intentional foul, then the stragedy really goes sour.

Stout had two to give and what Eddie said in the paper afterward he probably should have done:  Tell the refs during the time out that he was going to foul.

But, then, wouldn't the ref HAVE to call it an intentional foul! ;D

Funny stuff Mr. Ypsi.  :D

I guess Coach Eddie should have told the ref that "we are going to unintentionally foul."  ;)

SG,  I can hear it now...Eddie to official:  "Sir, if any fouls happen to occur I just want you to know we didn't mean it."  ;)

If the officials were letting them play all night it's unlikely that they'll want to make a call that has to potential of deciding the game as it's conclusion draws near.  That would be a 180 degree change in the philosphy they've adapted for the other 39 minutes and they'd probably be reluctant to do that.  I'm not be critical I just think it's human nature.  When officials let the players get physical it isn't like they don't realize that fouls are going uncalled.  They know that, they've just decided that on that night those aren't fouls.

About the Oshkosh/Platteville comments

Give some credit to Platteville. Any one that knows anything about this confernece knows that when you are traveling to Platteville, you are not going to have a good offensive night. Last year, teams only averaged 59 points a game in Platteville. This year, they are averaging 58. So for Oshkosh to only score 54 is the norm when you visit the Pioneers.

Now about this team, and how they should be blowing teams out of the water their talent, and blah blah blah. Ok, seriously...people should already drop that mentality. If you still have it, you haven't been paying attention to this season. Already they haven't lived up to expectations, and currently they are a middle of the pack team. They were overrated, and for someone at the beginning of the year was hyping this team to make some noise in the nation, I have came full circle and realized that. And others should too...Other then knowing Oshkosh was going to be good, we knew that someday Stout was going to breakthrough with their tandem in the backcourt, we knew that if Whitewater one day decided to play some defense, they would be contenders. And the fact that this is the WIAC! C'mon, does anything happen to plan? Did Stevens Point win outright WIAC conference titles? No, they were co-champions...even the back to back champions couldn't play perfect basketball in this conference.

Yes, Oshkosh still has problems, and yes they haven't hit all cylinders yet. But winning 5 out of their last 6, and at 8-4 (2-2) they still have a very good chance of finishing high in the WIAC. With all that, I would have to say thats not too shabby.

Oh, to end my rant...this was last years score between Oshkosh and Platteville in Platteville

Platteville 47
Oshkosh 44

Just seeing if anyone paid attention   :)

I may give in a little bit on Eddie's situation, where you have four fouls to give.  That's a pretty rare thing to have at the end of the game.  Still, a kid tries to committ an unintentional foul, their feet get tied up, the offensive player goes down in a heap and the ref calls it intentional.  Silly things like that happen all the time.

I won't give in on the "give to 2 to avoid giving 3" foul.  I look at like this:

If I tell them to foul, I risk a bad call by the official, an overzealous (or stupid) player committing an intentional, a smart opponent reading the defense and launching a 3 at just the right moment, or (horror of horrors) surrendering a 4-point play.  Even if we are succesful in committing a foul, now we give them 1 point and if we don't rebound it they have a chance to beat us (time permitting).  If I have a 3-point lead, I don't see a good reason to make it a 2-point game.  I think by fouling, you are opening up a lot of new possibilities, most of which help your opponent.

On the other hand, if I tell my five guys to stand in the corner and stay there, the worst thing that can happen is I go to OT.  That looks pretty good after reading the previous paragraph.

I believe that it's really hard to make a 3-pointer when the other team knows you have to shoot a 3-pointer.  It will almost always be contested and it will almost always be from 22+ feet.  The only things that can go wrong are a stupid foul or the guy hits an incredible, contested 25 footer, in which case I can still win in OT.

I'd rather tell my guys to play hard D, contest the shot, and get the rebound.  Then I'm giving them the same instructions I gave them for the first 39 minutes.

"We're gonna intentionally unintentionally foul after the time out."  ???

OK, big game tomorrow at Quandt.  I can't believe the two biggest Stout fans won't be there!

I'm hoping that Point continues to rebound after their poor Clarke College representation.  Looking foward to seeing a shootout as I know Stout can run with the best of them and Point has a lot of shooters!

It's gonna be fun.
