Should be a great game tonight at Timken between two Top 20 teams! :)

buf

point wins, 63-48.  Wash U loses.  Point COULD end up hosting next weekend

PS-

What do you think of Point's hosting chances.  I assume Dallas would have to fly 3.  The other 3 teams would probably only require 1 (Dallas).

I think it comes down to Carthage and Point.

The women at both IWU and Carthage, and are also a part of this men's sectional have priority to host in even year.   The Carthage women should go to St. Louis but thats not necessary certain.......IWU men could be blocked by the women using the Shirk Center, and if the Carthage women are awarded the sectional that leaves Point.........thus it should come down to Point and Carthage.  IMO Carthage will host.

Thats not to say SP couldn't host based on merit......its just my opinion of how this should shake out.

I agree.  Here's a repost of one that I made on the CCIW page...

I think this depends where the Women's sectional is...  IWU plays UWSP, Hope plays Marymount... since the other 3 teams have just 1 loss, I wouldn't think that UWSP's women would host, but that is the only thing that might prevent Point from hosting.

I think that the Hope women would probably host that women's sectional, which would leave UWSP open... and then it would be against SP and Carthage.

I don't now how they would match up head to head... Point was #2 in the West and Carthage was #2 in the Midwest.  Point has a higher SOS at .578 (11th) vs .561 (26th).  Carthage has a marginally better regional winning percentage (18-3  .857) vs Point (22-4 .846), but Point has more regional wins.

Point was 4-3 against regionally ranked opponents, with a W over #1 Whitworth, #3 Whitewater, and #4 St. Thomas.  Carthage played a number of those games by virtue of the fact that multiple conference teams ranked.

IWU women won't host and IWU men won't host because they didn't have as good a regular season.  I think the IWU/Point women's game will be at Hope.

Dunno between Point and Carthage to be honest, see above.

Glad both our teams pulled out wins while I was distracted by the national wrestling championships down here in Cedar Rapids.  :D

Well, Whitewater won last night but they lost tonight.  Point won both nights and has a pretty decent chance to host the Sectional... either way I'm about 99% certain it will either be at Point or Carthage, so it will be in WI.

Anybody go to both Point games this weekend?  It sure seemed like there were more fans on Friday night's game than Saturday night's... but the Friday night attendance was listed at 2052 and Saturday's was 2101.

As an aside...  there were certainly more fans there for the Whitewater game that was sold as general admission... and lots of people standing in the balcony and around the baskets as Standing Room Only... but does the NCAA have rules against that?  It seems like that would be a way to allow more people to come to the games.

I was at both games and to me it seemed that there might have been more fans at Friday's game.  Tonight it appeared that the corner sections on the side opposite the benches had more empty seats than on Friday.  I had heard that all available seats for Friday had been sold, but there were some empty seats in the season ticket holder sections on Friday, but not Saturday.

Surprised Point's game tonight wasn't a sellout.  Disappointed, more like.

Ditto. Not nearly as much support and enthusiasm as the '04-05 crowds when they packed 2700+ for all 3 games (2720-2746-2815) and even '06-07 for their 2 games (2504-2527). And not a whole lot of noise either, but half the fans had warm hands at least............from sitting on them. :(

Titan Q

Two travel questions, WIAC friends...

1) Can you recommend a couple hotels in Stevens Point?  Not looking for the Bellagio, but what are the best options in town?

2) What airports are within, say, a couple hours of Stevens Point?  Anything decent?  (I live in Columbia, Missouri and trying to explore all options...the route aint pretty anyway I go.)

BanditUWSP

Airports nearby are CWA (20 minutes north of Point - served by Delta, United and American), ATW (Appleton - about an hour away - larger and served by a couple more airlines), MSN (Madison- about 1 hr 45 minutes away - still larger and served by more airlines) and GRB (Green Bay - about 1 hr 45 minutes away- and served by a number or airlines).

As for lodging, there is a fairly new Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Fairfield Inn, Country Inn and Suites, Comfort Inn and Suites, Ramada (the last 3 basically within walking distance to the Quandt), Sleep Inn, Hampton Inn and a number of others.  Hope this helps.

The Roop

I believe Midwest and Northwest still service CWA, but these would be out of region flights from MO. So you won't get frequent flyer miles.  ;)
