Pioneers move into the top spot in this week's top 25, barely slipping past Wheaton (Ill).  I don't know if they're the best yet or not.  It really doesn't matter at this point in the season, but I'd be more convinced if they were to beat UW-Whitewater and UW-Stevens Point.

The voting panel kind of surprised me this week though.  In last weeks poll, only two teams received votes, Washington University with 23, and UWP with 2.  Pioneers were still third in the poll.  This week the first place votes are spread among four teams.  UWP with 13, Wheaton with 7, St. Thomas with 3, and Wash U with the final 2.  Just very interesting to me.

Happy Holidays to everyone.  Safe travels.

Drake Palmer's analysis of the relative strengths of Lax and RF makes sense to me. There will be a tough  battle between RF, Osh, EC, Lax, Sup, for fourth/fifth place. I'm conceding the first three spots.

RF has a freshman, Utke, who has had a bad luck start:  bad knee, high sprained ankle. The coaches are  high on his potential. He's 6'8", has played in only 8 games, but is in 6th place in the league in blocked shots. He's the best RF shot blocker since Rich Melzer. I bring that up because that skill is an indication of his athletic ability. He can do the other things too. He may come on strong in the rest of the season.

MESSAGE TO RECRUITS:  IN DOUBT? ENROLL AT STOUT. DON'T CARE? GO TO EAU CLAIRE. AT A LOSS? TRY LACROSSE. FEELIN' OUTTA JOINT? YOUR PLACE IS POINT. DON'T LIKE THE REST? DO WHAT'S BEST!

Now that I checked on whether what I said was accurate, I find that Utke is not ranked in league stats. He is in sixth place in overall stats, not having played against Platteville. Still, he has 8 blocks, 5 more than the next leading shot blocker on the team. He gonna be good!

Thanks, BWH.  Hope everyone found a great power forward and a shifty point guard in their stockiings!

Does anyone know if the Wisconsin-Whitewater games from the tournament in Texas will be broadcast on the internet?

If you can't ignore an insult, top it; if you can't top it, laugh it off; and if you can't laugh it off, it's probably deserved.

Watching Superior vs Transylvania U of Kentucky. Beats live stats. Oshkosh up at 5PM, our time. Hope to be able to sit through that, as well. Current game tied up at 41.
don't know what other tournaments have this feature, but for a fraction of what it would cost to travel to site, I have a courtside seat.

Greek Tragedy

I clicked on the link on the WIAC scoreboard page that sent me to the Cactus Jam page.  Where is a link to upload the video?  Just curious.

Buchanan sent out all the links you could possibly want to check last week; the guy does not stop promoting men's basketball.

the Supes put Transylvania down by 17. It was a seesaw battle in the first half, but UWS did a gradual but consistent drawing away in the second. I didn't see stats, but Jake Smith certainly was a big factor.

Oshkosh game wasn't available in video today, but it appears the game on the 29th will be. $7.50 per day or $20 for the entire tournament. Video is decent, although the last few minutes of the Superior game was like a series of still photos rather than streaming video. Don't know if it was my computer or the feed.

The bracket had not been updated the last time I looked. May only be done once a day after all games are completed.

WIAC sweep out west with Superior topping Transy 81-64 and Oshkosh stopping SUNY-Old Westbury 89-80

Not on the WW end.
I don't know if LeTourneau will send a crew for the tourney.

I will be surprised if UMHB has audio or livestats for any of the games.

All four games will be in-region tho'.

I tried to watch the Oshkosh game, but couldn't find a link to it anywhere--and, believe, me, I looked everywhere on the Cactus Jam site. I finally sent a message to the Contact Us link. today, I got profuse apologies from the director of the SportsVista organization (at least that's who he said he was) offering to credit my $ for the tournament subscription and free access for the remainder of the games. WOW! He said they had technical problems and couldn't bring up the games at the particular arena UWO was at. I didn't have the heart to tell him I was only mildly interested in the UWO game; I was honest enough to tell him he didn't need to give me the credit.

Concerning these video links, I was able to watch (video only) McMurry vs North Central (IL) in Las Vegas one week ago, but couldn't get the McMurry St Vincent (PA) link the next night.  They also gave me credit for the second game.

I think that they don't have the "bugs" worked out of these "holiday video" packages yet.

It will be nice as we get better software to handle these problems.

Kinks or no kinks, these video offerings, even audio broadcasts, beat the snot out of trying to follow a game through live stats. Many venues don't even offer that, so we wait until some press release comes out about the game. I'm pleased as punch there are businesses out there taking a stab at getting DIII sports online, so interested fans can watch. I try to support them as much as possible; I'd rather spend $20 on a couple of days of DIII sports than on NFL games. I guess I wouldn't get much of an NFL game for $20. Packers vs Lions, maybe. Which reminds me...
