Fred, overall Point is shooting below .500 (.483) so you've just got to do what their nonconference opponents have done. ;)

Here is a picture of Semling walking on the court while the game is going on nearby.   Maybe he was returning form the concession stand.  ;D

I'm really looking forward to tonight's game.  For two reasons:

1.  As much as the schools in this conference hate each other, mainly because it is so tough playing each other twice a season, I really think that there is true hatred between UWO/UWP.  At least that is the feeling I got last year.  To me, that makes it all the more interesting.

2.  Pregame meal at The Annex.  Probably going to go with a Medium, pan style Deluxe with fresh mushrooms.  Minus Sausage, plus ground beef.  Wundo and garlic baked.  Ala Mode.

That is not ice cream incase you're wondering.  Just extra cheese.   ;D

Platteville and the Titans can both still feel the smart of a loss to St. Norberts.

I think Platteville wins by 25.

Scores from tonight,

Superior wins at EC, 69-64.  Still no Hill for Superior.

UWP over UWO, 81-59.  Skemp with 24pts.

UWW over UWL, 92-86.  Where's the D?

Point wins at RF, 95-87 in OT.  Point missed 2 1-1s in regulation that let RF get into OT.

Stout over Ripon, 80-68

The Falcons looked good against a very good SP team tonite, but came up short. The Pointers played well in streaks, one of which was in the o.t. period.

Their first streak allowed them to lead by ten at the half behind hot shooting from El Amin (4 threes/4 attempts), who ended up with 17 at the break. SP went thru a cold spell shortly after halftime, and allowed RF to take a lead at 55-53 w/11 minutes left. From there it was nip and tuck, but missed f.t. by Beamish and Jenkins (who looked like he should be starting tonight) let RF tie it at 75. With :05 on the clock as RF inbounded the ball, Jontae Koonkaew missed a 15 foot runner at the buzzer.

Then, it was textbook basketball for SP in o.t. They didn't miss a shot (that I remember, that is). Final:  94-87.

Still, the Falcons made 'em sweat with five guys in double figures, led by Koonkaew with 15 (all in the second half). RF out rebounded SP by over ten, but could not get to the line enough times (11 throws to 24 for SP). Floor play was smooth with only 9 turnovers for Point, seven for RF.

Beamish, El Amin, and Jenkins led scoring for Point with 15-19 each, or so.

MESSAGE TO RECRUITS:  IN DOUBT? ENROLL AT STOUT. DON'T CARE? GO TO EAU CLAIRE. AT A LOSS? TRY LACROSSE. FEELIN' OUTTA JOINT? YOUR PLACE IS POINT. DON'T LIKE THE REST? DO WHAT'S BEST!

GOT BALLS? PLAY FOR THE FALLS!

Correction: Beamish, 24; El Amin, 20; Jenkins, 15; Rortvedt, 15. I should know better than to rely memory.

I just want to make one comment on the RF-STP game... the second half was one of the best halves of basketball I have watched ever.

I'm a little surprised at Superior's win.  Maybe they are starting to get it together.

Superior has "owned" Eau Claire the last two years.  Winning the last 4 match-ups.

UWP/UWO game was tight to start. UWP goes on a run to end the half to give them a good cushion at halftime.  DSA picked up two quick fouls to start the game and two more quick ones to start the second half.  TVD left him in the though in the second half with 4 fouls.  Pioneers took advantage by going at him when he couldn't play good defense.  Pioneers contained Miller and Marsh for much of the game.  Marsh did end up with 17, but most of that came late in the second half.

Pioneers looked much sharper last night than they did on Saturday against Stout.  Just in time too with Stevens Point coming in on Saturday.

WHITEWATER and LaCrosse played a tight first half with five lead changes and a tie in first 5 1/2 minutes when the WARHAWKS took a lead they would eventually build to as many as 9 points before a LaCrosse rally tied it again at 35-35 with just over 2 1/2 minutes to play in the half.  LaCrosse built the lead to 3 points before the WARHAWKS responded and led 43-40 at the midway point.  WHITEWATER quickly built a 10 point lead in the second half and remained ahead until LaCrosse forged separate ties at 62-62 and 64-64 with just over 11 minutes to play.  Goodwin hit a three-pointer to put the WARHAWKS back on top to stay.  LaCrosse got to within 1 point on two occassions after that but the WARHAWKS always responded and went 8-10 from the charity stripe in the last minute for the win, 92-86.

Kori Vernon had a big game for WHITEWATER with 27 points, 14 rebounds, 3 assists and a blocked shot.   Myles McKay finished with 23 points and Matt Goodwin added 20 to account for 73 of the WARHAWKS 92 points.  Tyson Kingsby also had finished with double figure points at 11.  Foul trouble kept McKay, Goodwin and Billy Kolinski on the bench in the first half.    Dustin Mitchell (9 points, 8 rebounds) put in some good minutes in relief.  Free throws were a big factor in the outcome.  The WARHAWKS started poorly but finished 31-41 while LaCrosse was 16-23.  WHITEWATER also outrebounded LaCrosse 42-33.

Trevor Stratton and Andy Merklein had career nights for LaCrosse.  Averaging 12.7 and 8.8 points respectively coming into the game Stratton went off for 27 points and Merklein was a load to handle in the post finishing with 20 points, 9 rebounds.   Tony Mane got his points, 16, but had to take 21 shots to get them and Al Cherry played well netting 10 points.

As has been the case in the last 4-5 meetings between these two teams it was a tightly contested game.  LaCrosse played well for being on the road.  Fortunately we played a little better.

Checking out the story on the front page about Calvin opening up their new arena, I decided to see if I could find any more photos from the game.

Tell me if you're jealous?

What a recruiting tool.  Never been there, probably never will be but I would have to say this facility has been shot right to the top of the list of top facilities in the country.  D-3 for sure, probably a lot of D-2's and smaller D-1 would be jealous of this.  Wow.
