Yes, welcome.

You should consider joining our pickem league next year.

Sounds good, will do.  So, big WW and PLT game tonight!  Anybody gonna make it to the game?  I, myself live in California and will be squinting at the miniature screen on my laptop :( while listening to the Pointer game (if the online radio works this week)

Was planning on riding the bus, but some other things came up and had to pass on the trip.  Will be sitting by the radio and cheering instead.

I'm going to the game (I'm posting right now from my phone on the fan bus  ;D ) but I'm looking forward to reading this afterward. They did a great job when they did the live blog for the first UWP-UWW game.

HAHA, close!  I'm watching salmon numbers crash and other fish species approach extinction.

Let me guess, you need some stimulus?  And Point coeds on Facebook don't count !!

A great game at Mitchell Hall tonight, as RF wins an exciting and controversial contest. The final was 85-83 in OT. It was as good an advertisement for D3 basketball as one could want. The controversy: RF lead 34-32 as the half ended, and LC hit an apparant 3 to take a one point half-time lead. I saw the play and thought it was indeed a trey. The announcer, my brother-in-law, also reported it as a three, and the points were on the board. The RF coaches protested, and the call was reversed, sending LC Coach K into a fit. I talked to two people who saw a TV Channel 19 replay, and both said it was plainly a three.  In any case, Tony Mane hit an NBA three with 2.7 seconds left to send the game into OT, and the Falcons prevailed. Trevor Stratton just missed a half-court shot which would have won the game at the OT buzzer, but it rimmed out. Had the call at the end of the half stood, the OT would arguably never have occured. I recognize that this was only one call in a game in which any number of calls can go either way, but I bet Coah K and the Eagles won't see it that way. I was impressed with the young team RF has, and expect them to make some noise in the next year or two, and congratulate  them on their win. I remain mystified at the Eagles' struggles this year. Too much talent to win only 3 or 4 games in the conference.

You said it yourself ... a controversial shot like that so early in the game likely isn't the deciding factor.  Right or wrong it was just one point with a lot of time left on the clock.

Good job by RF hanging on to win the game!

Brian Carroll, very classy post!  Wish I could have been in LaCrosse for what sounded like an excellent game to watch! Congrats to the Falcons on pulling off a good win!

Before I get into the game I wanted to give kudos to the Platteville crowd.  They were many and they were loud.  But the thing that struck me the most was that they, as a group, stood and applauded our All Americans as they were introduced during the halftime intermission.  Thanks for doing that.  It showed true sportsmanship.

The first half was really tight.  Platteville's largest lead was six and the WARHAWKS had one point leads on four occassions.  There were 8 ties and 7 lead changes in the half.  When it ended Platteville was up by a single point, 32-31.  The second half started out the same way with 6 lead changes and a tie in the first three minutes before Matt Goodwin nailed a three-pointer to put the WARHAWKS up two, 41-39, with about sixteen and half minutes to go.  WHITEWATER would hold the lead the rest of the way though it remained at a single digit until just over a minute and half remained.  The WARHAWKS went 13-16 from the free throw line in the final three minutes.

Myles McKay paced the WARHAWKS with 19 points including 3-5 from beyond the arch.  Kori Vernon continued his outstanding play with 18 points and 9 rebounds.  Vernon also was tough on defense doing the majority of the time guarding Skemp who was held to just 6 shots from the field.  Dustin Mitchell played his best game of the season finishing with 17 points and preventing Skemp from getting touches while spelling Vernon.  Matt Goodwin, held scoreless in the first half and sitting with foul problems, finished with 13 points in the second half.

Both teams shot well in the first half with Platteville making their first six shots and finishing the half 52% including 5-10 three-pointers.  Meanwhile the WARHAWKS shot 54.5% in the first half.  Platteville cooled off in the second half shooting only 37.5% to finish the game at 43.4% while the WARHAWKS cooled some too but shot 45.8% to finish the game at 50%.  Free throws were a significant factor with the WARHAWKS 24-31 to Platteville's 8-12.   The WARHAWKS outrebounded the Pioneers, 32-26.

Good defense kept the ball out of Skemp's hands and that was probably the deciding factor in the game.  Vernon and Mitchell both played well on both ends of the floor.  Mitchell was hard to stop in the low post and was 5-6 from the free throw line.  Goodwin really came on strong in the second half.

Curt Hanson led Platteville with 24 points including 4-9 three-pointers.  Skemp finished with 7 points and five rebounds none of which were offensive.

There were a number of incredibly athletic plays from both teams.
