If...

Point, Whitewater and Platteville all win on Wednesday...

and then Whitewater wins and Platteville upsets Point on Saturday...

All three would end up 14-2 and 1-1 vs. each other.

All three would have one conference road loss.

Coin flip anyone?

Old School... Correction on Whitewater.  They lost both of their games on the road.

Here are the scenario's for the 6th seed in the WIAC tournament:

For UWL to get in:
Win vs UWSP and...
     - UW-RF losses at UW-ST & home against UW-WW
        - UW-SUP can win or lose vs UW-O

        OR
     - UW-RF win at UW-ST & lose to UW-WW
        - UW-SUP must win vs UW-O

For UW-SUP to get in:
Win vs UW-O and...
     - UW-L losses vs UW-SP
        - UW-RF only wins 1 of 2 games

For UW-RF to get in:
Win at UW-ST & vs UW-WW
        - They're in no matter what.
Win at UW-ST & loss vs UW-WW
        - UW-LAX must lose vs UW-SP
        - UW-SUP must lose vs UW-O

Lose at UW-ST & win vs UW-WW
        - UW-LAX would be eliminated regardless of win or loss
        - UW-SUP must lose vs UW-O

Lose at UW-ST & lose vs UW-WW
        - UW-LAX must lose vs UW-SP
        - UW-SUP must lose vs UW-O

I hope your Valentines Day was especially "special" OS because you missed one of the most incredible, exciting basketball games in the WIAC this season.  No team led by more than five points at any point in the game.  Twentyfour lead changes and sixteen ties in fortyfive minutes kept the suspense building till the buzzer.

McKay finished with 35 points and 8 rebounds to lead the WARHAWKS in both categories.  Kingsby hit the winning shot and finished with 10 points and a team leading 4 assists.  Kori Vernon also scored 10 points, had 7 rebounds and 3 steals.

Five Pointer scored in double figures led by Rortvedt and El-Amin who went a combined 8-13 from the beyond the arch and finished with 15 points apiece.  Moses and Beamish each had 14 points and Hurd finished with 10 despite spending a lot of time on the bench and fouling out.

Point shot really well, 54.5%, from the floor including 12-21 on three pointers.  WHITEWATER only shot 44.1% from the floor, 26-59, but offset the Pointer three pointers by going 23-26 from the free throw line, to Point's 6-13, and nearly doubling up on them in rebounds (43 to 22).  WHITEWATER missed only three free throws but two came in the final 38 seconds when they had a chance to put the game away.  Point missed some critical free throws as well, two of them were the front end of bonus attempts.

Beamish's "ok" look was essentially a Christen Laettner play.  He had 1.1 seconds to jump, catch a ball thrown 3/4ths the length of the floor, turn, jump again and shoot from beyond the free throw line with Kori Vernon defending.  He got the shot off but it didn't come anywhere near the basket and it would have been a miracle akin to the parting of the Red Sea had he hit it.

It was a great game and followed by another when the women went at it.  You wouldn't have had to be a WARHAWK or Pointer fan, or even much of a basketball fan to have enjoyed this one.

As always Point brought a large contingency and they were very vocal.  Our students turned out in larger numbers than at any game this season.   The atmosphere was electric and the intensity never slacked off for even a minute.  I can't think of a thing you could have done with $7 and got more bang for your buck.

Yeah, after going to bed, I realized Whitewater lost to both Platteville and Point on the road...I wrote that at 4 in the morning...give me a break! lol  ;D :D ::) :P

Nice work LAXGUY!

BW, my wife and I went bowling and then played online Jeopardy.  :o ;D

Seriously though, we had a great Valentine's Day.  Nothing like going out to dinner and then going to the midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Oriental Theatre in Milwaukee.  I just have to bring toast, Scott's toilet paper, cards and rice next time!

Hopefully the game against Platteville next weekend in Stevens Point will partially make up the Whitewater game.

Looks like McKay's 35-pt. performance put him over the top in the Conference Player of the Year voting!

He's a legit candidate.  It could depend on how we finish.

Congratulations to the Warhawks on a huge win.  And Point and Platteville should be commended for their fine seasons.

We close out our season hosting Point Wednesday.  I'm looking forward to the game.

I think that WW's two huge wins this week solidified their place in the tournament.  It's pretty fitting that in a game in which Whitewater dominated the boards, it was an offensive rebound that provided the opportunity for the winning shot.  After getting beat by both Point and Platteville the first time around, WW really showed that they really are a top 5 team.

I had planned on coming up to Point for Saturday's game but I just can't make the logistics work with my job... I ended up listening to part of the end of the game on my cell phone... propped my wife's up near the computer speaker.  It worked great until I lost my signal... with :38 second to go in OT, Point had just scored to take the lead.  And then they lost :-(

It's amazing to think, too, that Point led the nation in free throw percentage a few years ago... but they couldn't hit the ones they needed to seal it.  And to have Matt Moses, who set Point's consecutive free throw record earlier this year on the line...

Oh well, hopefully Point wins out this week and makes it all moot!

A combined 40 lead changes and ties in 45 minutes of play made this one of the most exciting basketball games I've seen.  Literally every single possession was meaningfull.

I guess they score that an offensive rebound.  I heard that Beamish tipped the missed shot out towards midcourt...of course, it didn't get that far with Kingsby hitting the 3 pointer.

I guess they owe us a 3-pter at the (near) buzzer.  Beamish did it to them a couple of years ago at Quandt.

After two failed attempts on our part Beamish was just trying to put the ball as far from the basket as possible and Kingsby was just in the right place at the right time or the wrong place at the wrong time depending on your perspective.

It is an offensive rebound.

Here's something to ponder: In the five head-to-head games involving UW-Platteville, UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater, there have been an average of 9.8 ties and 12.6 lead changes per game.

You're almost lucky as a fan to find one game like that per year.
