It's too bad Oshkosh can't get a quality and experienced official like this to work the clock for its home games, maybe if they did they wouldn't have so much trouble with their score keepers in the future.

I'm assuming that this statement was tongue-in-cheek since it was Bernie working the timer during the Whitewater-Oshkosh game last week.

Does anyone think his daughters will chip in and buy him boxing lessons during the off-season?  Maybe the next time he takes a swipe at a coach he might actually make contact.

That was Bernie--holy ****.  Wow, Pat must have really laid into him because he's heard them all.   Well, if he has more time on his hands, he can always go fishing with TVD.

Can't get much closer than this latest D3Hoops poll:

5     UW-Platteville             21-4     491
6    UW-Stevens Point    21-4    487
7    UW-Whitewater    21-4    486

The games between them have been just that close as well. Barring upsets  :o WW at PL Thursday and who knows who at SP Saturday ???

The Roop

WIAC, MIAC, IIAC, SCIAC and NWC. At larges, who knows. Could be as many as 5 if Chapman gets a Pool B, not sure how strong they would be as a Pool C.

Let's hope for everyone's sake that there isn't a next time.

For someone with as much experience as he has you would think he would be able to handle the situation better.  He could handle Pat Summitt but he couldn't handle Pat Miller.  Maybe he just should have offered him a piece of chocolate and defused the confrontation.  It worked for Forest Gump.  ;)

I, too, have always felt that TVD tends to get a bad rap when all he ever does is recruit his type of player, coach every game hard, tell it "the way it is" to the media, and go about his business in a pretty successful way year after year.  We talk to Bob Burnell who covers your Titans all the time and he pretty much isn't afraid to "tell it like it is" as well.  Bob has nothing but respect for the way that Ted goes about his business.
Couldn't have said it any better stoutguy.......  You know where you stand with TVD, and I like that.  Guys that lack the mental toughness are typically the ones that exit the program early.  Guys that are mentally tough, go on to enjoy their time in a UWO uniform, and more importantly, go on to better things after basketball is over.

We were discussing this in the Pool C room.  No one thinks there has ever been a Pool B eligible team that has received a Pool C bid after all the Pool Bs were taken.  That group seems to be pretty weak year in and year out.

Congrats to Jeff Skemp on being named one of ten finalists for the Josten Trophy awarded to the DIII player of the year.

I think Whitewater is most at risk if they lose tonight.  But, with that said, I feel both are pretty safe, along with Point.

I'm not a dumb person by any means ... but I still can't figure out this Pool B and Pool C thing!

The Roop

Pool B = Independents and schools from conferences that don't get automatic (Pool A) bids. Pool C compares everybody else and awards bids accordingly.

The Roop

Chapman is an Independent. So they would first be considered by Pool B criteria. Then by Pool C etc.

D3 Handbook

Here is the handbook, it explains all three Pools.

There are 38 conferences that have automatic qualifiers to the NCAA tourney.  I believe all of them have their conference tournament champions being their AQ...only the UAA does not have a conference tournament.  Their regular season champion get the conference's automatic qualifier.  These are Pool A teams...

Pool B teams, as explained above, are teams that are independent and teams from conferences that don't receive an automatic qualifier.  Conferences that are newly formed and are in a "grace period" and conferences with less than seven teams would be considered for Pool B selection.

After the automatic qualifiers have won their respective conference tournaments and the UAA regular season champ is crowned, and after the 3 Pool B teams are selected, everyone else is thrown into the third pool, Pool C.  So, Pool C consists of everyone else after AQs and Pool B teams are selected.  That's why I said that a Pool B team can become a Pool C team.  These are at-large bids and the NCAA selects them using criteria that is listed.

For example, The WIAC, MIAC, NWC, SCIAC and the IIAC all have conference tournaments.  The winner of those conference tournaments receive Pool A bids, automatic qualifers.

The Great South Athletic Conference only has 4 teams in it, so all four teams are considered Pool B candidates.  Every team in the newly formed LANDMARK conference are also considered Pool B candidates because they have a waiting period before their conference is eligible to receive a Pool A bid.  Every independent is Pool B eligible.  So, there are only THREE Pool B bids handed out this year.  Once those bids are gone, all of these Pool B teams then become Pool C eligible, or at-large teams.

Joining those teams are teams from conferences with AQs that didn't win their conferences' post-season tourney or in the UAA's case, their regular season championship.

Make sense or did I make it worse?

Old School...thanks for making the process a little easier to understand!  I expect at least one of the CCIW and the WIAC conferences to have 3 invites to the Dance.  It might be wishful thinking. ;)
