Old School...thanks for making the process a little easier to understand!  I expect at least one of the CCIW and the WIAC conferences to have 3 invites to the Dance.  It might be wishful thinking. ;)

I think the WIAC is a virtual lock for three - conceivably even four if someone other than UWSP, UWP, of UWW wins the tourney.  The CCIW looks likely to get three only if Augie or NCC wins the tourney - Wheaton would be a lock for a C, but Elmhurst would be plenty nervous.

I'm not a dumb person by any means ... but I still can't figure out this Pool B and Pool C thing!

D3 Handbook

Here is the handbook, it explains all three Pools.

There are 38 conferences that have automatic qualifiers to the NCAA tourney.  I believe all of them have their conference tournament champions being their AQ...only the UAA does not have a conference tournament.  Their regular season champion get the conference's automatic qualifier.  These are Pool A teams...

Pool B teams, as explained above, are teams that are independent and teams from conferences that don't receive an automatic qualifier.  Conferences that are newly formed and are in a "grace period" and conferences with less than seven teams would be considered for Pool B selection.

After the automatic qualifiers have won their respective conference tournaments and the UAA regular season champ is crowned, and after the 3 Pool B teams are selected, everyone else is thrown into the third pool, Pool C.  So, Pool C consists of everyone else after AQs and Pool B teams are selected.  That's why I said that a Pool B team can become a Pool C team.  These are at-large bids and the NCAA selects them using criteria that is listed.

For example, The WIAC, MIAC, NWC, SCIAC and the IIAC all have conference tournaments.  The winner of those conference tournaments receive Pool A bids, automatic qualifers.

The Great South Athletic Conference only has 4 teams in it, so all four teams are considered Pool B candidates.  Every team in the newly formed LANDMARK conference are also considered Pool B candidates because they have a waiting period before their conference is eligible to receive a Pool A bid.  Every independent is Pool B eligible.  So, there are only THREE Pool B bids handed out this year.  Once those bids are gone, all of these Pool B teams then become Pool C eligible, or at-large teams.

Joining those teams are teams from conferences with AQs that didn't win their conferences' post-season tourney or in the UAA's case, their regular season championship.

Make sense or did I make it worse?

Personally, I'll be surprised if the WIAC gets three in.  I've seen the politics of this too many times.

It's too bad Oshkosh can't get a quality and experienced official like this to work the clock for its home games, maybe if they did they wouldn't have so much trouble with their score keepers in the future.

I'm assuming that this statement was tongue-in-cheek since it was Bernie working the timer during the Whitewater-Oshkosh game last week.

Does anyone think his daughters will chip in and buy him boxing lessons during the off-season?  Maybe the next time he takes a swipe at a coach he might actually make contact.

Let's hope for everyone's sake that there isn't a next time.

For someone with as much experience as he has you would think he would be able to handle the situation better.  He could handle Pat Summitt but he couldn't handle Pat Miller.  Maybe he just should have offered him a piece of chocolate and defused the confrontation.  It worked for Forest Gump.  ;)

The "chocolate for everyone, I can work any game, at any level, everyone calls me Bernie" article kind of takes on a new meaning now.  Fact is he can't work any league he wants to.  He was banned from WIAC for, among other incidents, going directly into a head coaches huddle and telling the players what offense and defense to run, then proclaiming for everyone to hear, "Coach, if you can tell me how to ref, I can tell you how to coach".  Great line, but it gives credence to my earlier point that all officials, both on the court and at the table (except BW. or course),  should be held to that same high standard of conduct that coaches are held to.

This was an outstanding explanation ... thank you very much!  I don't feel so dumb anymore! ;D

Thank you for cutting me some slack, Stoutguy.  I am happy to report that we got through last night's game without incident.   Did any of you Oshkosh observers notice if Bernie was working the table last night?

Our game was a tale of two halves.  WHITEWATER dominated the first one jumping to a double figure lead in the first four minutes, maintained it with the exception of two instances, and built it to a high of 21 points by halftime, 49-28.  The second half started with the two teams trading baskets for the first two and half minutes when River Falls made a 15-3 run over the next three minutes thanks to five WHITEWATER turnovers and cut the lead to a single digit.  It essentially stayed that way with the Falcon cutting it to two points, 65-63 with just under seven and half minutes remaining.   However the WARHAWKS responded building the lead back into double digits with 1:37 to go.  But River Falls was still battling and behind a pair of three-pointers and some missed free throws by the WARHAWKS they cut the deficit to three points, 84-81, with fourteen seconds to go.  At that point Matt Goodwin was fouled and made a pair of free throws to seal the deal 86-81.

Goodwin led all scorers with 25 points including 17 in the second half and 12-15 from the charity stripe.  Myles McKay finished with 19 points while Phil Negri and Kori Vernon added 12 points apiece.  Vernon pulled down 8 rebounds.   Billy Kolinski had 4 assists.

Jake Voeltz played well with 20 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists and a pair of blocks for the Falcon.  Danny Johnson finished 5-8 from beyond the arch and with 17 points.  Jontae Koonkaew had 10 points despite spending considerable time on the bench with foul problems.

WHITEWATER shot 65.5% from the floor in the first half but only 38.9% in the second one.  River Falls only shot 37.5% in the first half but 53.3% in the second stanza.  River Falls finished 11-22 on three-point attempts while the WARHAWKS were only 3-8.  That was significant in closing the gap and maintaining a competitive game down the stretch.

The second half was a foul fest.  After combining to shoot just 14 free throws in the first half the two teams combined for 49 in the second one.  The WARHAWKS held the advantage going 31-39 to 20-24 for the Falcon which helped offset the Falcon three-pointers and was the difference in the game.

We'll have to play a whole lot better for 40 minutes to compete with Platteville Thursday.

Making the trip?

I really hope the students are not scared away by the $3 ticket price, as it seems maybe there were in Whitewater last night.  I guess I hope the community and the season ticket holders are not scared away as well.  I know our Tuesday game last year when they lost to Eau Claire wasn't greatly attended, but it's Whitewater.  Really hoping we sell it out again, but not thinking its realistic....

Hopefully Pvegas and the crew will prove me wrong!

I'm also the timer for the women's team who hosts Eau Claire on Thursday so I'll be busy and unable to make the trip to Platteville.

At least it isn't bowling.  :D

Nope....  One of the guys  that had worked the game clock in the past was on the shot clock last night.

Anyone happen to know why the UWO/Point game on Thursday is a 6:00 pm start instead of the normal 7:00 pm start?  I am assuming it probably has something to do with the Pointer women also hosting, even though they typically play in a different gym.
