LU gets a lot of players from the Chicagoland area so I expect them to draw well in Elmhurst. Could be Alex South.
There's only four Chicagolanders on the Lawrence roster, so unless those four are either very popular or come from very prolific clans, I doubt that they'll provide enough friends and family to make Fagenel Hall "Alex South" all by themselves. ;)

True, but there has been that many every year for a while it seems like. And the parents don't stop attending games after graduation = Alex South  ;)

larry_u...this IS a WIAC message board you have to assume there is going to be WIAC bias...

But anywhoo, I had a question that came from the selection Podcast...What do you all think about the regional ranked opponents part of the process...should it be if they were ranked when the team played them, if they had ever been ranked, if they were ranked at end of year, etc?

good luck to all this weekend and I'll be in Minny

Being relatively new I'm assuming that there's a perception of bias in D3 because for the most part the membership of D3 is made up of private schools.

... Except that history disagrees with you...  See 2006.  La Crosse got shipped to Michigan, on the other side of the bracket.  'Course, this year, the center of the DIII world resides somewhere on the western Illinois-Wisconsin border, not on the Michigan-Ohio border like that year, so there aren't any pods to ship a WIAC team east.

I shouldn't have used the word "ever", but that 2006 tourney was the exception that proves the rule, PS. UWL's trip to Holland, MI was a once-in-a-blue-moon event. Yes, it's geographically possible for several of the WIAC schools to get moved into a section based in the Great Lakes Region -- in fact, as I said in my last post, it was perfectly feasible this season for UWW to get moved into the John Carroll pod or the Capital pod, since Whitewater is within 500 miles of both Cleveland and Columbus. But a lot of things have to line up for that to happen, including a willingness on the part of the committee to make it happen. Thus far, they've only been willing to do it once in all the years (however many it's been) that the 500-mile-radius rule has been in effect.

Too bad, because it would've really helped balance out the bracket this year if UWW had been shipped eastward. Warhawks fans wouldn't have liked the long hike, of course, but it would've helped ease the congestion in this top-heavy section to have UWW playing elsewhere.

There is a difference between bias and overwhelming NCAA conspiracy to screw the WIAC.  Believe it or not...there are even more quality basketball teams in the state of Wisconsin that don't play in the WIAC too.

I'm going to write a nice letter to our new President, to see if its possible to solve the biggest questions in sports:
A) Get a playoff system for Division 1 FBS football.
B) To solve the dilemma of the fact that 19 teams get to host at least one game the first weekend of the D3 tournament, and the other 44 teams have just got to deal with the fact they have to beat the home team to survive...regardless of what regional pod they belong to.  If he does not solve this, I think that it may be possible that Lonestar will jam our radar, and give us all the raspberries....

Would it be easier to go to a game at Williams Fieldhouse this weekend?  Yeah it would, but you know what?  I'm going to cheer even louder this weekend in Wheaton because I'm just crazy enough to drive there this weekend, hopefully for two games.  I'm just happy we're playing this weekend.  I'll be even happier if we're playing next weekend, regardless of where its at.  Playing the cards that I, and the Pioneers have been dealt.

I think that if WW won the WIAC tourney that would have helped our chances of hosting at least one pod, but i could be wrong (we won the WIAC the previous years we hosted a pod, but look how that turned out)...so it's not always great to host, it might be convenient for us WIAC fans, but I wouldn't mind a drive to Elmhurst, but shucks, darn work is in the way.

GO HAWKS!  Good luck to the others too in Minny and Wheaton.
