Will they be moving the final four to Wheaton?

i listened to the game it sounded like there was a good contingent there for ww but the anouncers were correct in saying that our pod was a mini final four.  goodwin could have been clutch and won it but it wasnt so. we were down by 18 and didnt score a point till 13 minutes in the game. good effort to come back but just shy.  bad way for our seniors to go. i hoped that our front line couldve scored more this game but it was not to be

Wow, all three D2.5 teams lose on the same night.  Who woulda thunk it?

What a weekend of basketball.  The three games played at Elmhurst put fans on a rollercoaster litterally from the opening tip of all three games.

As the dust settles and CCIW fans are pounding their chests (deservedly), one aspect of the weekend is borne out in black and white.  The pollsters at D3hoops.com were right on

#2 (Wash U) beats #8 (Whitewater) by 3 points on neutral floor
#1 (St. Thomas) beats #4 Stevens Point by 3 points on Tommies floor
#3 (Wheaton) beats (#5 Platteville) in OT on Wheaton's floor

In rankings lingo:  no upsets and three games that weren't decided until either the final possession or in overtime.

The pollster's nailed it!!

So your OK with 8 teams remaining alive for the NCAA D3 title but NONE of the 8 includes teams ranked 4th, 5th and 8th.  Maybe the seedings should have been set more fairly so that St. Thomas was playing the 16th ranked team in the second round NOT the 4th ranked.

Bottom line there are teams yet playing who got there more easily than they should have!

Good word..travesty. Too bad the people who run things in D 3 fantasyland don't read these comments. If someone wanted to design a biased system that would undermine fan interest in the D 3 tournament, they just did a heck of a job.  When a fan of CCIW complains, that kind of makes you satnd up and listen! I would like to see who sits on the selection committee for seeding teams and where they went to college. I might be wrong but I will guess the majority came from smaller private institutions.  Anyone know about the make up of the panel??

Well, if someone wants to pony up a half million bucks or so, I'm sure the D3 people would be glad to seed nationally.

Until then, deal with reality.

Stevens Point's senior starters:  El-Amin: 0-6 for 0 pts:  Beamish: 1-7 for 4 pts and Rortvedt was 0-5 for 0 pts.  Not really the way they wanted to go out. Amazing Point only lost by 3...still a good four years, and also Wotachek

I'm not sure I agree necessarily.

Division 2 has 8 regions throughout the US.  They seed 8 teams per region and host the NCAA's at the highest seeded team within that region.

Nothing wrong with that!

Certainly isn't going to cost $500M.

Lastly, I was responding to "Voice" who was rather condensending towards the 3 WIAC teams!

Not sure why you considered my comment condecending towards the WIAC teams. I simply was pointing out that when you have three games played against two Top 10 teams in the nation, and the higher rated teams all win, the pollsters are doing their job very well.  All three games were as close as the teams were in the polls.  just thought it was an interesting fact.

As far as me taking a shot at the WIAC teams, that is preposterous.

So basicially what they do at Division II.  I think the D 2 set up sucks...8 teams in 1 gym is a lot, and there are not many gyms in D III that can hold not just the fans, but have enough locker room space and amenities to host an 8 team regional.  Plus you are then making the tournament from 3 weekends into 2, and to get to the final 8 you have to win 3 games in 3 days....thats brutal.

What happens if the top seeded team isn't a WIAC team or St. Thomas, but say Puget Sound.  You are going to fly 7 other teams out to Tacoma?  Yeah right....

No thanks..D2 can keep its model.  There is a reason why it is less popular then D3.....

I'm not sure it is less popular ... on what basis are you making that statement?

http://web1.ncaa.org/web_files/stats/m_basketball_RB/2009/Attendance.pdf

The link above for last year's (2008) figures reveal:
#of teams - 258 (d2), 388 (d3)
avg attendance (all schools) - 763 (d2), 426 (d3)
nearby conferences - 1,378 (d2-Northern sun), 726 (d3-WIAC)
nearby schools - 2,499 (d2-Winona State), 1,350 (d3-UWSP)

If you've ever been to a D2 tournament you would know that it usually is a Thur, Fri and Sunday setup or something like that.  The facilities are just fine at most host schools.  The only game that usually has an attendance/facility problem is those where the host/home team is playing.  The other games are rarely a problem.

For regions with significant travel problems the D2 can break those regions into two sub-regionals.

Lastly, for my taste I'd prefer the championship be decided on the court and not by considerations due to travel or regional locale!
