Sounds like cheese & cracker time.... :'(

Yeah I guess it is, but you know what?  We lost, so deal with it.  We love our teams and losing not something we take lightly, especially when it ends the season.  I'm guessing you do not feel the same about your team, but that is your problem and not mine.

Thank you for your gracious gesture.

Lighten up, Francis....   There are a couple of good nuggets in the article below.  The last sentence is especially fitting.  Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going back to my own board and beg for Karma points which have been gobbled up faster than a bowl of cheese doodles in Manitowoc.

Wonder what Harvey Mackay would say in gloating in the face of a defeated opponent?  Plus I would say Scottie that if you have to beg for lost karma points, you yourself are not a very good loser.  Shall we refer to Mr. Mackay again?

It's ok Scottie...some of us still respect the king of Mount Monmouth

Thanks guys!  We'd better get back to our own board before these "publics" start razzing us about all of the extra holidays they get.   :D

Peace!

Players who averaged double figure minutes this season.

Stevens Point:
Losses: El-Amin, Beamish, Rortvedt, Wotachek
Returning: Moses, Hurd, Jenkins, Krull, Sweeny

I would say that losing the first three, all who averaged double digits in scoring, will be tough to replace.  I like Wotachek too, he had his flashes, so I can't forget about him.  El-Amin was the engine that ran the team and I don't think at this time Sweeney is up for it.  But, there's still plenty of time to get accustomed a little better.

I think Krull will step right in the forward spot for Beamish.  As shown in the St. Thomas game, he's got some skill.  Jenkins could come into the starting lineup and Sweeney will probably run the point.  It's a small lineup if you basically swap Jenkins for Rortvedt.  Our three-point shooting threat takes a hit with El-Amin and Rortvedt gone, but Semling overloaded on guards lately, so we could be fine next year.  It's a long off-season.  :'( :-\ :-[

So at first glance who does everyone think are leading favorites at the moment?

WW, UWSP, UWP and UWO all seem to have lost a lot.

UWL, UWS and UWEC all seem to have solid cores returning.

Lots of elite talent leaving though!

It's obvious that the WARHAWK staff has their work cut out for them on the recruiting trail.  Losing all five starters leaves a big hole in the roster.  Mitchell and Vines are ready to step in as starters.  Both improved as this last season progressed and ended up having pretty decent seasons.  Negri started at times and he can shoot from the perimiter.  How much help Koski will be remains to be seen.  He was a prolific scorer in high school but that just hasn't been the case at this level.   I think Alex Edmunds will be ready for more playing time next year and I'm interested to see how he developes.  He's a player with a big upside imo.  We had a gray shirted big man who will see time on the floor if he returns.  I can't remember his name though.  Regardless I suspect we'll need to find some recruits that can contribute immediately to be a contender.  That probably means a juco transfer or two.

I think you'll see a couple of teams like LaCrosse and River Falls be significantly better next year.

2008-09 All-WIAC Men's Basketball Team
First Team
Name, School, Year, Position, Height, Hometown (High School)
D.J. Marsh, Oshkosh, Junior, Forward, 6-4,
Jeff Skemp, Platteville, Senior, Center, 6-10,
Myles McKay, Whitewater, Senior, Guard, 6-3,
Bryan Beamish, Stevens Point, Senior, Forward, 6-6,
Kori Vernon, Whitewater, Senior, Forward, 6-6,
Matt Moses, Stevens Point, Junior, Guard, 6-2,
Charlie Lohoff, Platteville, Senior, Guard, 6-3,
Dane Seckar-Anderson, Oshkosh, Senior, Forward, 6-7,
Khalifa El-Amin, Stevens Point, Senior, Guard, 5-8,
Dan Beyer, Eau Claire, Senior, Forward, 6-7,
Curt Hanson, Platteville, Junior, Guard, 6-1,
Pete Rortvedt, Stevens Point, Senior, Forward, 6-5,

Honorable Mention
Ryan Shea, Eau Claire, Sophomore, Guard, 6-4,
Jake Smith, Superior, Sophomore, Forward, 6-6,
Trevor Stratton, La Crosse, Junior, Guard, 6-2,
Matt Miller, Oshkosh, Senior, Guard, 5-9,
Dustin Mitchell, Whitewater, Junior, Center, 6-9,
Matt Goodwin, Whitewater, Senior, Guard, 6-1,
Jake Voeltz, River Falls, Sophomore, Forward, 6-4,
Jontae Koonkaew, River Falls, Sophomore, Guard, 5-9,
Aaron Anderson, River Falls, Freshman, Guard, 6-4,
Dwight Hill, Superior, Junior, Guard, 5-9,

THREE first team all conference players return next year.  All but two of the 10 honorable mention players return.

In addition, this doesn't include the likes of Tony Mane (LX), Mike Shaw (PL), Louis Hurd (SP) Jerrell Enerson-Mathews (ST), and Dwight Hill (SUP), just to name a few.

Mane, Hill and Shane Manor were all HM last year.

I agree with BW that La Crosse and River Falls could be significantly better next year.  But, Platteville, Stevens Point and Whitewater never rebuild, they reload, so it'll be a battle next year.

My first thought, with Point, was that next year could be like the year following our 2nd National Championship.  We'd go a "disappointing" 17-10 (though we did go 11-5, good for 3rd in the WIAC) and take our hits.  But, that year, 3 of the top 6 were freshman in Beamish, El-Amin and Rortvedt (only starter) and a sophomore in Steve Hicklin.  I think for next year, we're better equipped with Moses and Hurd returning starters, Krull coming on strong, Jenkins showing some skill and even Sweeney averaging double digits.  So, as pessimistic as I can be sometimes, it's not all doom and gloom!

I would like to hear from the Oshkosh faithful.  Losing two of the Big Three in Matt Miller and DSA will be tough to replace.  The Titans still have POTY DJ Marsh and they'll return Schrimpf too, from injury.  Wittwer and LUKE Miller started and played significant minutes, but who else will need to step up?  I'm sure Marsh and Schrimpf will average 35+ minutes a game next year.

It is amazing how much talent will be lost from this league. There will be a chance for every team in the league to compete next year.

I think that Stevens Point will be tough again. They always seem to reload every year. In addition, Whitewater will probably be pretty tough when all is set and done. River Falls and Superior will also have good teams. It will be interesting to see what happens.

You are correct, losing DSA and Miller will be hard to replace.  I am curious to see what shakes out with Schrimpf and Wittwer, with both of them playing the same "off-guard" position.  Will one of them slide down to play the PG position?  Doubt it, but you never know.

As far as the other three positions, I would think that Marsh (obviously,) L. Miller, and Waudby would have the inside track at the starting positions next seasons, unless of course UWO has a strong recruiting class.  Both L. Miller and Waudby showed "flashes" of improvement, at times last year, so if that becomes more consistent, I think they could could be quality "role players."  A lot will have to do with the recruiting class coming in.  With the potential of having a couple of kids coming in that could play right away, some of this could obviously change.  I guess it is always fun to speculate though....

Sorry about that, I forgot to mention that it was near impossible to figure out their statistics because of how many people quit and what not.

Is TVD recruiting on the Wolf or the Fox River this year?  There are some big catches on the Wisconsin if he gets over there soon.
