Rumors out of Oshkosh are that TVD hasn't had time to go fishing yet because he is still hitting the recruiting trail hard. More big name names and top 50 players are still being added to this year's recruiting class at Oshkosh. Is this TVD's best recruiting class yet?

I heard some talk at the Boys WIAA State Basketball Tournament that UW Superior may be getting a transfer from D2 Minnesota-Duluth for the 2009-10 season.

Anyone happen to know if there is any truth to former Baldwin-Woodville standout Marcus Helland suiting up for the Yellow Jackets this season?  At 6'6 he would definitely help the insdie game for Superior.

Marcus Helland is indeed transferring to UW-Superior.  He will be the third player (Culy and Manor are the other 2) from the 2007 All Northwest Team on the Yellowjackets roster.  I am pretty sure, he is very good friends with Culy and Manor so it sounds like a good move all around.

What is the story on Tank Johnson of Oshkosh North?  He looks like a Bret Bielema recruit to me.

Sounds like academically things would be a "struggle" getting admitted to a 4-year school.  Wouldn't be surprised to see him go the way of a Junior College if he indeed wants to continue playing ball at the next level.

From the AP wire--A spokesperson for University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point Chancellor Linda Bunnell has confirmed reports that the school is conducting an investigation of an alleged "improper relationship" between members of the Pointer basketball coaching staff and the Department of Theater and Dance at the university.

At the heart of the probe are claims that Coach Bob Semling and his staff received acting lessons and additional preferential treatment from theater faculty at no cost to themselves.

"We met once on a Saturday in September," a former student coach reported, "and twice more in October before the official start of practice. We covered stuff like body language, pantomime, gesticulation, and voice projection. Some of the impromptu improvisation scenes we did got pretty intense, which was cool. But I thought the choreography training was a waste of time."

An unidentified theater faculty member noted that the relationship between the two groups actually preceded Semling's arrival. 'It was Coach Bennett who first recognized that basketball is played on a large stage, and that he was both producer and director, as well as a key actor in the drama which enfolds.  It was Bennett's vision that discovered the symbiotic relationships that exist between basketball and stagecraft and how the lessons learned can be manipulated for personal advantage."

"As for Coach Semling, he is a better actor than 90% of the students in our program. He excels in tragic roles where cruel fate—usually wearing a striped shirt-- frustrates his highest ambitions."

Long-time Pointer basketball fan Tom Doebler scoffs at the implication that the Pointers are guilty of any wrong-doing. He does worry, however, that it may impact recruiting negatively.  "An outdoors guy like Ted Van Dellen over in Oshkosh is going to use this artsy-fartsy stuff against us.  If there's a great player out there who's just a little homophobic, we're not going to get him."

Update--The hearing on this was deferred until April 1, 2010 according to the Stevens Point student newspaper.

Kestrel--thanks for the real news nugget! Is there no depths to which the Pointer coaches will not sink? Coaches connected to theater/arts/acting? Disgusting!

Yep, September 14 is Sager Day in nine different states and the District of Columbia.

I'd ask you what day is Troll Day, T2K, but it appears to be every day under your rock in your house.
