Its true that Hans Hoeg is finishing his college career at Jamestown College in ND on a full scholarship. Former Falcon, Ryan Thompson did the same thing two years ago and finished his final year at Jamestown College on a full scholarship.

Thanks, Frankiet.   And I am assuming that the only reason to go to Jamestown was the cash----as opposed to unhappiness at UW-RF?

UWEC's Lucas Morrissey, a sophomore, to transfer to UWL...

He's a 6'3" guard who started on the La Crosse Aquinas 2008 D3 state championship team...

Congrats to Mike Kearns, WKTY's sports voice, who has covered the UWL Indians/Eagles for 35 years. He and his father, who covered them prior to his son, since 1948, were inducted into the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association's Hall of Fame this week....

Rumor has it that UWSP and Coach Semling is losing Scott Anderson to the Stevens Point high school coaching position.  I think that hurts especially since they're going to have a relatively young team next season.

As for speculation of a replacement ... what about Nick Bennett as a possible replacement?

Nick Bennett is a D-I assistant. Wouldn't even the top assistant job at a D-III be a step down?

Lots of advantages to D3 over a D1 position.  Including job stability, likely more responsibility and possibly the opportunity to get to a head coaching job sooner.

Look at the career path of Paul Combs ... he's done pretty well for himself.

Plus the Bennett name in Wisconsin probably still has some currency in it!

10 FRESHMAN?
I think I would would hate to play for Van Dellen ... doesn't seem to be a lot of loyalty from the coach ... his quote's certainly don't speak positively about his players!
And I on the other hand would love to play for Van Dellen.....  One problem though is that I don't think I would be able to get up and down the floor more than a couple of times without needing some oxygen..... ;D

Anyway, the job of the coach is to play his best players regardless of age.  Why "promise" playing time to guys just because they were on the team last year?  If they are good enough they will earn the playing time next year, and you don't look like an arse going back on your word this way.

No one deserves playing but what they earn ... BUT ... do you want a head coach who trashes you in the press?  Who wants to be outwardly criticized by your head coach?  Who apparently displays little public loyalty.

At the end of the day the WIAC is still an upperclassman league.  You need those juniors and seniors.   You need them motivated.  Just throwing 5 talented guys out there doesn't do it.  You need something extra, something special.

Look at last year's UWO team.  They arguably had the best trio (DSA, Miller and Marsh) out of ANY team.  Aside from a lack of depth they seemed to lack something else (to me it was an intangible thing) and that I believe belongs on TVD,

Then you wouldn't be playing for VanDellen or any other coach in the league.  ;)

That's the thing about college basketball.  A coach recruits a player one year and then the next year he tries to recruit a better player.   It's a difficult adjustment for players and sometimes an even bigger one for their parents.

And the rumor is now officially confirmed. This will hurt not only on the bench but in recruiting as well.

Absolutely ... I've had coaches tell me that their job to find and recruit players good enough to replace existing ones on the team.  And the job of existing players on the team is improve enough to prevent that from happening.

But that doesn't abdicate the coaches responsibility to develop, teach and support the players on the team.

I'm sad to say that former UW-Eau Claire And Superior High School basketball player "Buck" Smith, has passed away.  Thoughts and prayers are with his family.
