Riding crowded buses is part of D3 ball.  If anything, UW schools are going to have to be even more thrifty if we are to even have interscholastic athletics.  The state had a six billion dollar deficit to try to fill.  We can't afford Cadillac sports programs.

I understand that... but I'm saying that playing at two facilities may actually be a positive financial endeavor, not a negative one.  I may be wrong on that...  but it seems like it may be feasible that eliminating a bus may actually decrease the revenue (and conversely, increasing the number of locations with games on a Saturday night would increase revenue).  That's all I'm saying.

PS,

$250 is probably enough to get the bus out of the shed and over to your gym for pick up, but that's about it.  Most WIAC bus trips average over $1,000.

And don't forget that a good part of the audience are students, who's admission is paid by fees, so their attendance has little financial effect.

Having been on many of these trips with mens and womens teams it is tight in there but in the end it comes down to cost, it works.  As long as Stout mens team does not have to ride with the EC mens team to aways games it should be ok.  While I hung out with EC players some nights in EC, there was no love lost on the court and if we were in the same bus, well the cops may be called ;)  As we said many times in college, "it's D3, get used to it" to explain situations.  In the end it is about the game of basketball and that is worth an umcomfortable bus ride everytime.
You are only as good as the people around you.

On a different note, I'd be willing to bet that those co-ed bus rides have produced a number of romances (perhaps even future recruits! ;)).

wow, someone had to go there.  I would'nt go that route but I did just marry a volleyball girl from stout, thats close enough but now we argue over if our kids are playing volleyball or basketball.

Until recently, in Michigan daughters could have played both.  Parents and courts intervened, and girls' bball is now moved from fall to winter (and soccer from spring to fall, just like the boys, which will put extreme strain on coaches, refs, and fields).

Some parents (and lawyers) need to get a life.

Their argument was that playing a different season than other states and college seasons put the girls seeking scholarships at a disadvantage.  The great majority of comments I've seen (and # of scholarship offers) suggest the opposite: being 'out-of-season' allowed coaches to OVER-scout Michigan girls.  Oh, well. :(

Joe Werner married Katie Searing (now Werner), who was the star of our women's team.

I wouldn't be surprised if some bus trips helped the romance along!

UWP's announcement should come this week.  Coach Gard has done a nice job with his staff, and we're eager to have all the "I"s dotted and "Ts" crossed, so we can release the information to you.

Thanks for the "official" (if not insider, of course...) UWP info UWP SID!

Maybe Coach Buchannan will come back and let us know if this rumor is true....

I also heard that Lance Randall is/was a candidate for this job.

Same source also told me that Randall was nearly named coach at UWP but couldn't come to an agreement on numbers.  Not sure how accurate the source is but he mentioned that Buchanan was a candidate for the Carroll job!
