I had heard that Shea from EC was done........any truth to that?

That would be a pretty big blow for EC... they already lost their leading scorer, losing #2 would cause a pretty big shake up.

The WARHAWKS had their intrasquad scrimmage last night.  After watching the team play one another I came away with one general observation.  Our staff has a lot of work to do before the season starts for real.

Do most teams play their intrasquad game so early?  Point's is on November 11th... and it's done more as a showcase than anything else.

I supposed that there are positives and negatives to playing it first or last... if you play it last, then you get an opportunity to go against other teams earlier when the team really could use some other competition (always was great to finally get to go against someone different!)  and it also may expose some weaknesses that going against your own team may not... Are there any positives or negatives you can think of to playing it later?

Platteville is having their scrimmage this weekend.  They also try to showcase it for the booster/season ticket members.  This year espcially with the new seating, they are hoping that more come to the scrimmage so that season ticket holders can get a glimpse of what the action will look like from their new seats.

I personally would prefer having the intrasquad first.  There are always offensive kinks to work out, especially if you have a large recruiting class or if there is a chance a new system.  I liked making those mistakes earlier, and then when it came down to playing someone else, you feel a little more "refined" in what you're doing as a team on both ends of the floor.  Does it always go that way?  No it doesn't, but I still felt better going into a scrimmage against another university with more knowledge on my team and our system, than almost trying to wing it a bit.

Don't know if that makes sense to anyone else, but it is just how I feel.

John Gleich

That absolutely makes sense.  I always was ready to see somebody different because we'd been beating on each other for two weeks... and it was nice to beat on somebody else, but that's the difference between being in the post and being out on the perimeter!   ;)

I guess it's the difference between making your initial mistakes against each other and against a different opponent.  It was a bit frustrating playing two other teams in scrimmages... and then turning back around and playing the SAME guys we practiced against all the time.  But the teams were separated as equally as they could be which caused there to be some different personnel on the floor together.  Those games were always really competitive... in fact, one year, after 50 minutes (we played 2 25 minute halves) we were tied... and that's how the game ended!  It left us feeling a bit... unresolved, but it was better than playing it out and someone getting injured!

No arguments from me, being a perimeter guy I'm not going to say that I had it harder than guys in the post at all.  Physically beating on and getting beat on day in and out to the same mug would be frustrating.  First scrimmage always was a little more physical down low because of the "fresh meat".

The other thing about doing the intrasquad later rather than earlier is that it doesn't allow you to work more on the rotation.  Even leading up to that scrimmage, I'm sure the coaching staff was trying to establish a rotation.  Of course an argument for having it later, is that you might not have your rotation figured out yet, and this allows you one good last look at who may, or may not work that year.

Either way, I think that the purple/gold, blue/orange, black/yellow, red/white, or whatever the schools call them, the intrasquad scrimmages are great ways to showcase your team on the floor, and afterwards if you wish to do a "Meet the ______" (inserted team nickname in the blank).  Its nice as a player getting to meet the people cheering for you every game, and its nice for the people cheering to get a better idea on the young men the back.

Point also posts their schedule two months after everyone else does.  So it doesn't surprise me that they have their intrasquad game so late! lol :-)  They also have a "big write up" as well...probably to showcase it!

Shea is done.......confirmed from a couple of reliable sources.  That is not good for EC.  Young guys will have to step up to make up for a loss of a player like him.

I hadn't rerun the numbers for EC because they still don't have a roster up (and with the new website, they don't have last year's roster, so I don't know the years of the guys coming back to be able to make assumptions), but this means EC loses their top two scorers.

Shea was also the #2 assist guy, #1 in steals, #1 in blocked shots, #2 in assist-to-TO ratio... and all while playing the 4th most minutes on the team, so he was the most efficient player EC had last year too.

What happened to Shea?  Hurt, ineligible, just decided not to come back and play?

Tonight 5pm-ish UWSP plays at UW-Parkside in a scrimmage.  Not sure if they will allow fans in, will be going to watch!

DARN!  That's really close to me... but I promised my wife I'd go to a Halloween party with her.  :-(

5:00 seems pretty late for a scrimmage to me... does it to anyone else?

Late?  Not if they want it open to the public.

I seem to remember early afternoon scrimmages.  And I UWSP/Michigan Tech scrimmage started at noon a couple of years ago.

In fact, in my four years, I don't remember a scrimmage with a later start than about 3 or 4...  They were all on Saturdays though.  I'm off of work today (the boys' first birthday!) so if feels like a Saturday to me!
