Rumor has it that UWSP has three players leave the team ... Sophomore Ben Schumacher, and two freshmen - Bryan Gregory and Jason Ziemer.

That reduces their roster from 18 to 15 (including Jared Jenkins).

15 is almost too high although they had 14 last year!
Where did you hear this rumor?
Another player has left as well bringing the count to 4.  From a person affiliated with the team!
Care to fill the rest of us in on the most recent "rumored" departure?

Since you put the other three names out there, what's one more?   ;D

I wouldn't mind if Ziemer or Gregory decided to be a WARHAWK

Don't they have to sit out for two years?  If they were to transfer?

No, assuming they haven't enrolled at a different WIAC school already they would be eligible at the midterm.

If my memory serves me you only have to sit out one year if you transfer after you have played for another WIAC school for two seasons or longer.  If you transfer after playing just a single season or not having played at all you can be eligible immediately.

Point snags the #1 spot in the WIAC preseason poll:

Story

Also, Point released their roster:

Roster

As previously reported, no Ben Schumacher, also no Michael Griffin.  Ziemer and Gregory are not on the roster.  Scott Hoelzl is back.

5 new freshmen and Dan Tillema transferring in as a sophomore.

I don't have much info on the 4 guys that didn't come out, so I'll hold my opinions to myself, but in the Pointer radio show, Coach Semling and Scottie Krueger, at the beginning of the show, had a rather lengthy discourse about having an opportunity to play college athletics and deciding not to push through the years that you aren't getting PT to strive for the future.  I'm not going to say that this was directly to those guys, but it seemed pretty ironic if it wasn't.

Well, later in the show, they did say that Michael is still in school and decided before the year not to play but Ben decided just this last week not to.  No word about the two freshmen.

How does UWO get a 1st place vote??

I understand the fact that they have a Pre-season All American in DJ Marsh, but it seems to me that there are A LOT of questions after him....

Your memory serves you well BW. You are correct on that rule.

I don't know who cast the one vote for UW-O, or UW-W for that matter, but I don't believe that there is any rule which prevents a SID from voting for their own school.

Marsh is going to be very difficult for opponents to handle.  It would surprise me if he wasn't the conference POY when the season ends.  He's a very good player.

I agree... I mean, he shared it last year with Skemp.

Anybody have stats about how many players that have won the POY as juniors won (or didn't win, for that matter) as a senior?

Here's a limited history that I found on the WIAC page:

Merrill Brunson won it as a junior in 98-99 but Bailey won it in 99-00

Dworak took it as a junior in 01-02, Dworak and Melzer (junior) shared it in 02-03 and Melzer took it in 03-04 too

Matt Goodwin won it (junior) in 07-08 but Marsh (junior) and Skemp shared it last year

So there's a precedence of both happening I guess!

Marsh has been named to the DIIIhoops.com preseason All-American first team.  He's the only WIAC player on any of the four teams named.
