The WARHAWKS snuck by Carthage last night 82-81.  Trailing by 7 points early in the first half WHITEWATER made a run and ended the half up by 8 points, 46-38.  The WARHAWKS never trailed after that but Carthage did tie the game once in the second half.  WHITEWATER appeared to have a comfortable five point lead 81-76 with under a minute to play but missed 3 of 4 free throws and had a turnover which allowed Carthage a chance to win having possession with 7.6 seconds remaining.  Fortunately their shot at the buzzer missed and the WARHAWKS emerged on top.

Dustin Mitchell had a monster night with career highs of 29 points and 18 rebounds.  DJ Dantzler and Mike Bendall also scored in double figures with 14 points each.  WHITEWATER out rebounded Carthage 38-22 including 20 offensive rebounds.  Free throws also played a key factor as the WARHAWKS made as many (22/32) as Carthage attempted (17/22).

WHITEWATER will face Aurora today and Platteville will face Carthage.

Glad La Crosse is getting a little love here.  I felt that last year's team underperformed.  We'll see if they have overcome whatever internal issues there were.  Off to a good start.

I'm leaving in about an hour to see La Crosse play Carroll.  Big K will be with me, but Brian Carroll is off to Green Bay to see some minor league football game! :D

RF over Crown 92-70 last nite at Crown. Falcons play Augsburg tonite, a more challenging team, and winners over Loras. Crown was more diffiicult to beat than should have been the case, but RF could not shake them until late in the game. Koonkaew and Anderson (5/10 on threes) led with 18 each,  though playing only about 23 minutes. I think Guerin had 17 and 9 boards.

The WARHAWKS  defeated Aurora 89-83.  [WHITEWATER led the entire game and built the lead to as many as 25 points 76-51 with 9:45 remaining but Aurora went on a run and cut the lead to single digits at 87-82 with :29 remaining but that was as close as they would get.

Six WARHAWKS scored in double figures led by Phil Negri with 17 points on 6-8 from the field.  Negri also led the team with 5 assists.  Also scoring in double figures were Dustin Mitchell, DJ Dantzler and Alex Edmunds each with 12 points, Nolan Free with 11 points and Chris Vines with 10 points.  Mitchell recorded his second double-double by hauling down a team leading 11 rebounds.

The WARHAWKS will face Loras and Grinnell in the Thanksgiving Classic next weekend.

EC wins the championship of the Wartburg tournament.  Nice start to the year for the blugolds.

Falcons fall to Auggies 84-75.

The Auggies shot 63% from the field in the second half.

Koonkaew had a stretch of 9 straight points. I am expecting a big season for Koonkaew.

Falcons struggled in the second half.  New year, same story.

Pointers overcome 1st half turnovers to beat Puget Sound 70-55. Sounded like pretty helter-skelter defense by UPS, but UWSP kept their composure to win. UPS shot only 26% vs 52% by Point. 4 players in double figure scoring led by Harris w/16. Great start to the season beating two top 25 teams on the road. Lawrence up next at the refurbished Quandt on Wednesday!  8)

Augsburg is a good team, one which will challenge for the top MIAC spot if they play as they did in the second half of the game. Their 63% shooting in the second  half,  coupled with a diminished defensive effort by the Falcons, were major factors in the loss. However, RF played their best game so far--in the first  half.

Koonkaew was outstanding, and Guerin had his best game, including 3/3 on threes in the second half. He contributed 18 points and 9 rebounds along with Koonkaew's 21 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists.

Shelman and Johnson were good off the bench with 14 and 10 points respectively.

St. Thomas should expect all they can handle Tuesday night at Karges.

I noticed in the Superior boxscore that Marcus Helland played less than a minute in Saturday nights game. Is anyone else suprised by this? I thought he was expected to be in the starting group for Superior this season or at least having more of an impact than < 0 minutes a game.

La Crosse beat a stubborn Carroll team last night.  The score was 84-64.  La Crosse looked good on offense, but the defense didn't look that good.  But I don't know how good Carroll is.

Mane was on fire; 30 points.  Stratton was solid.  Merklein was an animal on the boards.  Al Chery, Brian Carroll's favorite Eagle, had a nice game.  He is tough around the basket, but a bricklayer outside.

Solid victory, IMHO.

Marcus Helland was in street clothes, Mono.  He hopes to play right around the first of December.  He played in the game against the Badgers, started and led Superior with 12 points and 8 boards.

nice "W" for EC @ Wartburg on Sat....82-76 over the  host school ... Colin Boone named Tourn. MVP..Jacob Schlub had 20 in the championship game. Blugolds let a 15-point 1st-half lead evaporate, but came back to nail it down.

Congrats to the Stout BlueDevils for taking the Bethel tournament this past weekend.
This squad might be a solid leap higher than last year.
