Badgerwarhawk or UWW fans?

Why hasn't Chris Vines played the last couple of games? Did he get hurt?

Eddie kept telling me that I was going to like his team this year if I got around to seeing them.  Guess what?  I saw them yesterday and he is right.  I like them.  Yes, they played Northland, but last year they would have looked like Northland.  Yesterday they looked like the old Stout teams that used to run and press and get after you and play as a team.  Nice contrubutions from Eric Hostetter (15 pts), Jerrod Buchholtz (11), and Erik Olson (10).  Eddie does not have 21 guys on his roster like T does but none of his players played more than 18 minutes.  A nice win and they play a very impressive Mt. Mercy team today for a chance at a 2nd tourny championship today.

Falcons lose 74-71 at University of Sioux Falls, now 8-2, in a game they could have won. Score was tied at half, but RF moved out to a 9 pt. lead with ten minutes or so left. Voeltz led with 20 and Guerin had 14. From the broadcast, it seemed that down the stretch they could have won it at the line, but free throws have proved to be a problem.

Point beats Edgewood 75-51.  Point jumped out to a 28-14 lead and led 40-24 at the half.  Edgewood cut the lead to 50-46 with about 8 minutes to go and Point ends the game on a 25-5 run.

It looked to me that Point got complacent when Edgewood started their comeback. Watching them warm up for the start of the second half they were not very interested, way too much laughing and joking going on. Hoelzel is going to be a monster this year if he avoids foul trouble, he's very athletic and if he develops a jump shot, will be all-conference before he leaves Point.

Greek Tragedy

I watched the Point game via internet last night.  Overall they looked good.  I wonder why Hoelzel didn't play last year.  It looks like a stud this year and I'm more than happy to have him back!  Yeah, they looked a little lazy after building a pretty sizable lead and then put the smack down after Edgewood cut it to 4.  I'm hoping to see them live soon.

Looking at results, it looks like River Falls and La Crosse could be pretty good.  Even Eau Claire hasn't looked too bad.

You're right, Stoutguy, Stout only played Northland.  I'm guessing the guys didn't play very many minutes since they were up 31-1 at one time!  Jury still out on them, I'm guessing.  They did beat Bethel, but they are only picked tied for 4th in the top-heavy MIAC.

Whitewater, despite all the new guys, sounds real good from what I've been reading and I'm not sure about Platteville.  They lost to Carthage, but they are picked 3rd in the tough CCIW.  The Pioneers also lost to Anderson.  Unfortunately, Oshkosh could be in for a long year.

Hoelzel is a freak athelete, great jumper a nice inside player.

I heard he had troubles last season with Semling's coaching style.

Interesting.  Semling's still there and I'm sure his coaching style hasn't changed!

Sometimes the desire to play overcomes other issues.  Obviously Scott H is more than capable of playing ... he just had to decide whether some things were worth overcoming.  Nothing wrong with that ... from either side ... maybe!

The circus that is Grinnell was interesting to watch.  Against Aurora they took a season low 49 three-point shots, making 19.  Meanwhile Aurora shoots an unbelieveable 91.2% from the floor in the first half and finishes the game at 76%.  Grinnell's full court pressure forces 22 turnovers but gives up god only knows how many layups.  Basically if you beat them to midcourt you are shooting a layup.  Aurora scores 136 points and never takes a three-point shot.  It was mentioned that since the inception of the three-point rule only two teams have made a three-pointer in every game played.  Aurora had been one of them.  I'm not sure if that's including all divisions or just division three and I don't know who the other team is but I thought it was interesting.

WHITEWATER beat Loras 90-54 Friday night.  The WARHAWKS started the game with a 13-0 run and maintained a double digit lead throughout.  Phil Negri paced the WARHAWKS with 21 points, 8 assists and 4 steals in 20 minutes.  Dustin Mitchell added 18 points (4-5 three-pointers), 8 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks.  DJ Dantzler and Mike Bendall also scored in double figures with 12 and 11 points respectively.

On Saturday night Grinnell came out smoking and behind their three-point shooting took an early eight point lead, 22-14.  But WHITEWATER caught up at 30-30 before taking control with a 17-2 run and a 67-50 halftime lead.   Leading 75-59 in the second half the WARHAWKS went on a 23-2 run to go up 98-61.  The lead eventually grew to 45 points, 118-73, with just over six minutes to play.  The final was 134-95.

Several school records were established.  The 134 points set a new school record besting the previous high of 132 (vs MSOE in 1983).  The combined score of 229 also established a new school high beating the previous 224 (vs Concordia 1988).  The WARHAWK shooting percentage, .773 exceeded the previous high of .727 (vs. UW-Milwaukee in 1984).

Grinnell attempted 96 shots, 66 three-pointers, but shot just 34% from the floor.

Six WARHAWKS scored in double figures.  DJ Dantzler led the way with 28 points, had 6 assists and a steal.  Dustin Mitchell added 25 points and 8 rebounds.  Alex Edmunds scored 17 points, had an assist and 3 steals.  Freshman Luke Knoble seeing his first extended action scored 14 points.  Lucas Burns added 12 points, 5 rebounds and a pair of steals.  Freshman Nolan Free stat line read 13 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal.

UWL gets a nice road win at Gustavus, 76-69.  They controlled the game for the most part.  It did get a little dicey late in the game, but Mane hit a couple shots to stop the GAC rally.

Greek Tragedy

GAC got it to two with 3+ to go, but Mane hit a big 3 to put them up 5.  GAC got it to 3 points with a minute and a half, but that's as close as they would get.  Mane with 23, Stratton with 18 and Haass with 14.

Platteville leads Pacific Lutheran 53-42 with 7 minutes to play.  Hanson with 22 so far.
