Superior squeaked by Northland 95-45.

Dwight Hill started but played less than a minute.  Any word out of Superior about that?  An injury?

No starter played more than 20 minutes as they were up 25 at halftime.

I was watching it on iFan.  He got hurt early and was done.  They heard nothing at half time and I have yet to hear anymore about it.

WARHAWKS 88
Carroll 62

Starting the game with a 21-3 run the WARHAWKS never trailed and led by a high of 21, 36-15, before Carroll finished the first half with a 15-6 run to close within 12, 42-30.  Carroll made the first basket in the second half to cut the lead to 10 points and got within 10 once more, 49-39, with about 16 minutes remaining.  However the WARHAWKS went on a 14-2 run and Carroll never got closer than 20 points after that.

Dustin Mitchell paced four WARHAWKS scoring in double figures with 20 points.  Alex Edmunds added 14 points, Phil Negri 11 (3-5 three pointers) and Nolan Free 10.  Led by Dustin Mitchell's 12 and Mike Bendall's 11 the WARHAWKS out rebounded Carroll 43-31.

Dustin Mitchell is absolutely exploding this year ... I do not recall him much from last season ... how did he do?  He came from Lakeland correct?  How did he do in high school?  The kid looked awesome against UWSP.

Mitchell was a starter last year.  He averaged just under 10 points and 5 rebounds a game.  With the team we had last year we didn't need him to do as much though he came on really, really strong at the end of the year.  This year is different and he's the "go to" guy.  He's spent his time in the weight room and is physically strong plus very athletic making him a tough match up for most teams.
He is from Minoqua and played at Lakeland High School where he and Phil Negri had very good years.

I remember four (or five) years ago, I came to Whitewater to watch them play.  I don't even think they were playing Stevens Point.  I remember talking to you and noticed Mitchell on the floor.  The first thing I thought and said to you was, "Wow, he's tall..."  And you said something like, "Yeah, he's really raw and needs some work, but he can become a good player..."  Well, he's become a good player!

My first thought was, "Really? I didn't think he was..."  So, I looked it.  He was NOT a starter.  It was McKay, Goodwin, Kolinski, Vernon and Negri.  And you call yourself a Warhawk fan! lol  :o ;D :D

lol, ok you got me there.  I should have said that he should have been starting.  ;)
Seriously, he played so much that I thought he was starting.

And I've been advised that he is actually from Lac du Flambeau (or however you spell it).  In my defense I will say that I did get Lakeland and Phil Negri correct. :D

QuoteIm not exactly sure what happened but Im going to take a stab in the dark. Ziemer was having his struggles being very homesick missing his mother while along making a slow but sure adjustment to the college game of basketball. one wednesday came around about 2 and a half weeks into practice when coach semling asked Jason how things were going and if he liked stevens point? Jason being what he is honest replied, " well to be honest coach i really dont like it here that much" the next question was asked so what are your plans then jason replied " well i'd like to play out the year and see how things go." Semling then said well Jason we cant have that if your going to be unhappy, this would just be unhealthy for you and unhealthy for our team and before you know it was talking about tranfering at semester. All of this eneded up blind siding Ziemer leaving him confused and in shock. The next day he met with assistant coach Lance Randall who made it seem more like they wanted him to stay. He was more pushing Ziemer into staying and being apart of something special. In the end Ziemer was left confused and baffled to what he should do with a head coach who wasn't pushing to convince him into staying because of homesickness and what not, i mean who wants to play for a coach that isn't pushing them to give it a chance. Then that friday came along and Ziemers good friend and roommate Bryan Gregory was told " things just didn't work out." with no explanation to why Gregory couldn't be apart of the team, Ziemer and Gregory left. In the mean time Ziemer found out that his mother who cares about him greatly emailed the coach saying Jason has been struggling a little bit. so basically a cry out for help. That cry out for help turned into his mom regretting even saying a thing to the coach because she now feels guilty. without that email there wouldnt have been a meeting that pushed Ziemer away from teammates which he loves along with the game of basketball. It really is a shame to hear that a mom can't ask the head coach to help her freshman son out with the adjustment of college without him almost getting MANIPULATED into not playing. I mean dont read this and think this is the truth but im just guessing in the dark i know as much as everyone else. God Bless

This was posted on the Wishoops web site discussing Ziemer's departure from UWSP.
