RE: Women...

I'll just say this.  back when I was dating my wife in college, she and the other bball girlfriends called themselves basketball widows.  She still does and I don't spend even remotely the same amt of time that I used to.

RE: the remaining games... far too many situations that could occur, but even RF and Osh still have a sliver of hope.  They each would need to win out and have 2 of the 6-7 teams lose out to even have a chance for a spot with a tie breaker.

On the other end, Point and WW are in for sure and both are guaranteed to host at least 1 game.  For the next 5 teams, if they can get to 9 wins, they're guaranteed in.  We'll have to wait to see what happens Sat to get more clarity.

There are far too many other contingencies in terms of the other teams.  Things will definitely get interesting if EC, Sup and Platte all win Saturday.

I still think Eddie wins it.  They get more credit for their current 8 wins than for WW's current 10.  WW was picked second in the league even WITH losing all of those guys to graduation in the same way that Stout was picked 9th with all those returners.  Eddie has gotten more than expected out of his team and while Miller seems on paper to have done a lot with a little (as some here would have you believe), the SID's thought the team was good enough to do just what they have done to this point... beat out a bunch of more experienced teams with new players (some who have been biding their time for a chance, some who are new to the program).

It's interesting no one has brought up Semling's name (maybe that's OS and my job!)... He lost a ton to graduation too and has put Point in the running for another conference championship.  But the retracters will say that they were picked #1, so it isn't a surprise... If Point does it, that doesn't mean it was earned any less than the other 25 banners up on the wall, especially this year, when the league is as tough as this year.

But, all that said, I think it's Eddie this year for everything else I previously said.

Thanks for responding. BW.  I was bored and needed someone to talk to.  The half season vote thing I get completely.  I have a great deal of respect for your guy.  The stereotype of Pat just always having the best players is a very unfair one.  I think he is outstanding and whomever wins the conference tournament will probably get the COY vote and this year, that would probably be fair unless it's anyone besides Miller, Semling, or Andrists (my three favorites).
Pointspecial:  You just need to pay more attention to my posts.

No, I read that... but it wasn't exactly a wholehearted endorsement... it seemed like an afterthought because Point just so happened to find themselves in a position for yet another championship and just might win it outright.

If your endorsement was more than that then I apologize.  I don't really think he or Miller have much of a chance vs. Eddie either way, though knowing the time and effort all the coaches put in, they all deserve it.

P*whipped is a harsh term coming from a guy who would have to miss the second coming of Jesus Christ if it happened to occur on Couples' Bowling Night.   ;)

:D :D :D

I'll have you know that I've missed bowling in October, November, December for football games and January for a basketball twin bill.  However my luck only goes so far.  I'll be missing the Superior twin bill next weekend because of February's bowling Saturday.  I could press it but I'd probably end up on the futon in the basement rec room if I did.  So I guess your point is well made after all.  :(

I was just yanking your chain OS.  The truth of the matter is that I've been married for 32 years in August and it took probably 10 of those years to train Mrs. BW.   However now it usually costs me dinner at some fancy smacey dinner club so I'm not sure but what I've still got work to do.  :D

As an aside, I DID read your post as stating that Sem, Miller and Andrist were your three favorite coaches in the league rather than your three favorites for the COY...

I think I combined this:

Well, Pointspecial, feeling old and actually being old (like Mr. pro-bowler and myself) are two entirely different things.  When I do 4 or 5 games a week like I have the last several weeks, my wife doesn't even notice I've been gone.  Truth of the matter is we will be celebrating our 40th wedding anniversary next Sat. and the party is being planned around my doing the EC/Stout bb games first.  How's that for a great wife and kids?

Greek Tragedy

BW,

I know you're just yanking my chain and messing with me.  I'm doing the same.  If there's a 42" in the rec. room, I wouldn't mind spending the night on the futon! lol.

I was trying to think of a way how Stout could get the #1 seed, but they can't.  If Point and Whitewater lose out and end up 10-6 and Stout wins both of their games, they'd be 10-6 as well.  But, Whitewater would hold the tie-breaker over Stout and Point because, amongst the 3, Whitewater would have a 3-1 record, Stout would have a 2-2 record and Point would be just 1-3.  Tie would go to Whitewater.  Then you'd need a tie-breaker against Stout and Point and Stout would win that one based on a better record of teams above them...1-1 vs. Whitewater, while Point would be 0-2.  Got all that?

Technicality point:

QuoteWhitewater would have a 3-1 record, Stout would have a 2-2 record and Point would be just 1-3.  Tie would go to Whitewater.  Then you'd need a tie-breaker against Stout and Point and Stout would win that one based on a better record of teams above them...1-1 vs. Whitewater, while Point would be 0-2.  Got all that?

You wouldn't need to compare Point and Stout in your second step.  The first step adequately resolves the three way tiebreaker (WW 3-1, Stout 2-2, SP 1-3).  There's no need to then compare Stout and Point. The first step has already spearated the three seeds.  You would only revert back to the head-to-head if for example Stout and Point were both 1-3 as in (WW 4-0, Stout 1-3, SP 1-3).

Are you sure? Most conferences revert back to the top head-to-head after breaking one team out of a three-way tie.

WIAC Tournament Handbook

Quote
SEEDING

Teams will be seeded 1 through 6 based on the final regular season conference standings.  If necessary, the following tie-breaker criteria will be applied to determine entry into the tournament or to seed teams with identical records:

1.   Head-to-head competition between tied teams.

2.   Cumulative Won/Loss record vs. teams placed higher in the conference standings.

3.   Record vs. teams in conference standings in descending order (i.e., #1 seed, #2 seed).

[Note:  When comparing tied teams against positions lower in the standings which are also tied, those "lower tied positions" shall be considered as a "single position" for purposes of comparison.  Example:  Team A and Team B tied for second would compare against Team X and Team Y tied for sixth as follows: Team A would compare its combined record against both X and Y versus Team B's combined record against both X and Y.]

4.   Team with the best road record in conference games.

5.   Coin toss conducted by the WIAC commissioner.

[Note:  If two teams remain tied after a third or other teams are eliminated, the tiebreaker reverts to criteria No. 1.  For example, if four teams are tied with 4-2, 3-3, 3-3, 2-4 head -to-head records, the 4-2 receives highest seed and the 2-4 team the lowest seed in the grouping.  Since two teams remain tied at 3-3, we revert back to criteria #1 (head-to-head) between those two teams and then (if necessary) utilize the remaining criteria in order.]

I think the tie is broken with the first criteria (in the highly unlikely hypothetical situation).  Since Stout and Point aren't tied with the first criteria, then it would be 1.WW 2.Stout 3.SP
