Jake Smith also scored 21 points to lead Superior.  They didn't seem to have quite the intensity in the second half as they had in the first one.  Perhaps fatique played a part in that.

I watched the game online sparingly, but I did see the first couple of minutes.  Superior came out with a ton of energy  and spark to the 8-0 lead... And though they did lead at the half, it was just by 1 and they'd expended a lot of energy.  I had a feeling that if they (Superior) didn't come out and build a decent lead in the second half, that Whitewater's depth, size, and athleticism would wear Superior down, which is exactly what happened.

Rope-a-dope. It's a strategy that works in many sports. Let the other team beat itself up and then waltz in and take the game.

I don't know if rope-a-dope is a strategy that I would use for Whitewater going in.  Allowing a team to potentially take the game away from you.  I think Superior had the advantage to start from having played on Tuesday, which also is what killed them in the end.  Kind of the same way the announcers felt about the US-Swiss hockey game on Wednesday.  They felt the Swiss would have the advantage early on because they played the day before, but then the Americans would have the upper hand later in the game because the Swiss played the day before.

Did the Superior players go back to Superior after Tuesday's game, then leave for Whitewater on Wednesday or just make the trip straight down?  That is a lot of windshield time for sure.  Great if you're getting paid by the hour, not so much if you're not getting paid and having to play basketball when you get off the bus.

I don't think Whitewater had to risk much; if they looked at any of the statistics, they could see that Superior often plays a stronger first half than second. Against the 'weaker' teams, they've managed to claw their way in. Also, fewer players have been getting into the game in the latter part of the season. Losing Aaron Corry and Taylor Skoglund early on may have had an impact on how much time the bench got, but I would think that should have been overcome by the second half of the season. They couldn't come back, but at least two other players should have been ready to fill in.

Sounds like two great games in the semis.  Its a shame that we can't get three teams into the tourney.

La Crosse was actually in a good place... before they lost 6 out of 8 games in January and the beginning of February.  They had a high SOS and some really good wins.

Point wins 63-57 in a HARD fought basketball game.

Dupree Fletcher was insane, went for 25 with 22 of those in the second half.  Point absolutely shut down Mitchell, he ended with 4 points and just 5 rebounds.

I would agree if politics weren't such a big part of it.

Your team is up by 13 points with less than 10 seconds to play ... should you be dunking?

I realize Stout was pressing but goodness golly I would think pulling it out, holding it and taking a foul would be a much smarter and sportsman-like play.

At home with the crowd going crazy and having been down the whole game, the intensity of the moment got to Dan it's tough to think in a moment like that...I have really good friends at Stout so I felt for them but the opportunity for dunks don't come about everyday in D3...even though he was on sportscenter a few weeks ago lol

Am I right that Hope is one of the schools that does not play on Sundays?  So I think that means the Stevens Point regional will be played on Friday and Saturday.

Don't they always have the regionals on Friday and Saturday in a 4-pod?

All of the first round games (unless there's a bye...) are played on Friday/Saturday.  For the three pods with byes (UT-Dallas, Whitworth, and Williams) the first round game is played on Thursday, then the second round on Saturday to allow a day for travel.
