Point wins, 74-67 over UTD.  They play IWU tomorrow.  2 close games at the Quant this evening

A question for the WIAC fans...

How many points is a one-sided home court advantage worth to UWSP, as was at the Quandt tonight?
How many points does it cost a team to fly in the NCAA tournament?

Greek Tragedy

I'd say 6 points off the top of my head.  So, we'd still win by 1 on a neutral court!

Sounds like a loaded question. What do you want to say?  That the home team has an advantage over a team that came from a long way?  I don't think we need Digger Phelps to determine that.

Just quantification for the ASC and the NWC...

Six points makes that a different game down the stretch.  That lead is changing hands and fouling strategies change.

Congratulations to the Pointers.

For UTD to get there, the airline flight for Wheaton may not have permitted UTD to win.  The UTD
Activites Center was nowhere near full.  See photo in the link below.

I'm not sure where that argument is going. Although if ASC and NWC teams would prefer bus rides to WI and NC respectively, I'm sure the NCAA would honor the request next year.

Additionally, I don't see how Wheatons flight could effect UT-Dallas' ability to win a game.

Good morning.

Wheaton probably beats UT-Dallas on a neutral floor in their second round game.

The crowd at UT-Dallas is not listed on the UTD-Wheaton stat sheet, but looking at the pictures of the game on the links that I provided, there may not have been 400 people at the game.  Wheaton may have had 100 of the 400.  There are plenty of Wheaton grads in Dallas.   :)

Greek Tragedy

So, are you saying Texas-Dallas won that game because they had a 300 to 100 fan advantage or because Wheaton's flight?

I'm sure you know or it was discussed on the CCIW board, but did Wheaton just stay down there after their flight to Mary Hardin-Baylor?

I'm curious why you brought up the flights and home court advantage at this time.  It's obvious Wheaton had no problem flying to Richardson, TX and beating Mary Hardin Baylor.

Homecourt advantage is definitely a plus, no doubt about it, but are you blaming the loss (Wheaton to Texas-Dallas and Texas-Dallas to Stevens Point) on flights?

Having now seen UT-Dallas play, I have an easy time envisioning why they gave Wheaton problems.  They play a ton of zone and Wheaton is really best vs man-to-man teams, where they can isolate Tim McCrary, or kick-out to Ben Panner.

I think Wheaton is a better team than UT-Dallas (not by a lot), but I think this is one of those situations where Wheaton just doesn't match up all that well head-to-head.  (Kind of like I've said this year that I think IWU is better than Wheaton, but IWU has some big matchup problems vs Wheaton.)  I don't think Wheaton's travel, or playing on the Comets' floor, were necessary big factors.

As far as Stevens Point vs UT-Dallas, while the game may have gotten kind of close towards the end, there is a large gap between the two teams.  I can't envision UT-Dallas winning that matchup on any floor.

UT-Dallas was playing without 2 starters from the mid-season, Brandon Green who was injured in January, and Jimmy Witten who was injured in the ASC tourney.  IMHO, Green was at least their second best player and Witten was a solid veteran starter.  UTD had to reach into their bench for Curtis Davis and one other starter.  UTD did not go into their benchfor the game.  The bench was starting.

As for UT-Dallas' and their 1-3-1 zone, that is their strength.

Thanks for the comment, Titan Q. :)

While I am a WIAC guy first and foremost, I have to say it's VERY impressive that there are three ODAC teams in the Elite Eight.  While they are guaranteed one Final Four bid with Guliford and Eastern Menonite playing each other, there is a chance at an all ODAC National Championship as Randolph Macon is on the other side of the bracket.  While I am pulling for Point, it sure would make an interesting National Championship if the ODAC schools would each win two more games.

I wonder if the attendence record would be broken if two of the three remaining ODAC  teams made it to the Final Four along with Williams.  They travel well, don't they?  We know Point & IWU travel well too.

It's easy to travel well when the Final Four is in your backyard. Don't forget that the ODAC tourney is held at the Salem Civic Center, the same place where the Final Four is held.
