I've been following the Pointers for some time.  Don't shoot me but who is John Johnston?  Is he a past player or is he the transfer I heard UWSP got from Milwaukee?

His name is Yohn Yohnston,
He comes from Visconsin,

I can tell you this ... he can shoooooot the ball.  Very dangerous from 3-point range ... NBA 3-pt range that is!

He's as good of shot as Giordana with much better size!

Wow, went and saw the first half of the pro-am game that had Kalif El-Amin and Johnston.  I honestly have no idea what Johnston looks like though.  So, with that said, the play seemed pretty bad at first view.  Lots of "playground" stuff with very little passing, guys jacking up 3s and lots of "one on ones" to apparently show off their "skills".  I really hope it gets better.  El-Amin rarely got the ball, even as the point guard, but made all of his baskets that I saw, 2 or 3 3s and 1 or 2 2s.  Pretty rough stuff.  I hope if I go again, I can pick out or find out who Johnston is.  One of the main reasons I went to watch.  I told my wife that this looked like a "black hole" league.  A guy gets the ball and it disappears and you don't see it again (hence, he takes it himself, no passing).  Oh well.  I guess I wasn't expecting much! lol  :D ;D

No worries about not having a shot clock.  It was something like 66-42 at half (12 minute quarters).

Had a chance to check out the new floor in the main gym at Williams Center this weekend and is it ever sharp.  The project is nearly complete with only a little bit of painting and touch up in addition to the cleanup left to do.  Everyone is going to be really impressed when they see it and the athletes are going to love playing on it.

As for your expectations of this league ... you're probably not going to get much better than it was this past week.

You did forget to mention that El Amin/Johnston's team played a team with only 5 guys on it ... part of the reason the final score ended up 125 to 102.

Specific to Johnston ... he was one of two white guys on that team ... Beyer the UW-Eau Claire post player and him (Johnston).  Johnston is a 6'2ish guard/shooter.  He hit several different long long shots from NBA 3-point land.  Moved very well and will be a good addition to UWSP maybe even take Matt Mose's 2-guard spot.

From what I have heard, UWSP has two recruits coming in this year.  John Johnston and another guy from out of state.  I wasn't able to get any details about the out of state player.  I just hope he has some size.  Pointers could use another big.

In addition they also have the transfer Devonne Jackson who is a guard and Jason Ziemer will be playing this year.

Thanks for the info, I've been looking everywhere for Point's incoming recruit list.  Many other schools announced within the last month.  Devonne Jackson I believe is the kid I heard was going to be a stud this year.  Is he the kid from Milwaukee Vincent that Jared Jenkins got to come to Point?  This year may be complete domination by Point I'm talking 2-3 total losses maybe less with the experience their returning.  On the other hand anything can happen come tourney time.

With rare exceptions, freshmen generally don't make huge impacts in the WIAC. They can boost team depth, but unless you're a Jason Kalsow-type guy they don't come in and blow up the league.  Let's put a lid on the "complete domination" talk for a while.

I don't see Johnston starting right away either.  It would will be hard to get into that starting lineup considering Harris and Tillema were on the bench last year.

As far as Jackson yes he played in high school with Jenkins.  I have never seen him play.  I know he was enrolled in school last semester and was at all the home games with the team.

I did suggest Johnston may get a shot at Moses's position.  And I do think he has a chance to contribute.  Start, probably not, if for no other reason because it would be against Semling's track record.  I do think he's a better shooter and player than Giordana, if for no other reason in that he brings nice size to the position.

I don't think UWSP is a lock to dominate next year.  They lose Moses ... a very intergral player for them, Sweeney an under-rated senior and Foreman who came in and finished second in RPG.

This team really was only 8 deep (with Tillema and Harris).  They lose two of those eight, including a guy who led them in scoring, minutes, free throws, 3pt shooting, assists and was 3rd on the team in rebounding and steals.  I do think this team's season depends on Jenkins ... if he chooses to focus on getting to the NFL instead of playing basketball this team may be up the proverbial creek without a ...

Was the other guy really Beyer?  Wow, I've seen him before, but that didnt' look like him.  I knew Beyer was playing but didnt' recognize him so I just thought he wasn't there! lol
