With rare exceptions, freshmen generally don't make huge impacts in the WIAC. They can boost team depth, but unless you're a Jason Kalsow-type guy they don't come in and blow up the league.  Let's put a lid on the "complete domination" talk for a while.

OK, it's been awhile...Point's going to completely dominate! lol  :P ;D :D ;) :) :o

OK, last post...

I'm not too worried about Point this year.  Yeah, I'm joking when I say they are going to completely dominate.  Every year there are worries about who's going to fill who's shoes.

Yeah, we lose Moses and Forman, who came in the 2nd semester and made a big difference.  But, look at last year and this year.  Going into this past year we had to replace Rortvedt, El-Amin and Beamish, all those guys played basically 30 minutes a game each.  We also had Wotachek to replace.  We had 9 guys go 11 minutes or more a game.  I would say Point looked to have some big worries.

In the end, a guy who scored about 6 points a game in 15 minutes of play a year ago ended up being arguably the best player on the team...Jared Jenkins.  Losing 3 starters that averaged 30 minutes a game was something Point had to overcome.  They ended up winning the national championship!

So, yeah, we have to replace Moses and Forman (players with impact).  I have all the confidence in the world that Semling will put together another strong team.

Look at Whitewater last year.  They lost 4 senior starters and still managed to win the conference championship.  Reload, not rebuild.  ;D

Apparently Beyer did play!  Must look a lot different without that Eau Claire jersey on.  Anyway...

I'm guessing not real accurate boxscores.

Looks like Beyer switched teams.

In a 127-102 game with 93 missed field goal attempts, they have one team with 7 total rebounds and the other with 8.

Why would you think these box scores weren't very accurate???  LOL  They need to hire a local SID or two.

I'm just having fun guys obviously I'm not expecting point to completely dominate.  I do think it's realistic to expect them to have a stronger team this year returning 4 out of 5 starters and bringing in what sounds to be a really good group of players.  Last year was a miraculous run which could've but didn't end up in a first round defeat.  I realize Moses is darn near irreplaceable but I expect Harris and Tillema to be much improved this year as well as Hurd.  Like I stated earlier anything can happen in the tourney and a lot of the time the best team doesn't end up winning the national championship.  What's the scoop with Ziemer anyways all the talk during last season that he wasn't playing here and now he is?  I thought he had transferred to Whitewater.  I'm not complaining the guy averaged around 25 per game for a D1 school his senior year.  Hopefully he can continue to fill it up.  Bring back Griffen too he's better at basketball than football.

Let me just throw this out there...

In 04-05, after winning the National Championship the year before, Point still lost 3 games... and didn't win the conference outright (tied with Platteville).  We lost 3 games, all on the road, at the top 3 conference opponents' gyms.  We also had to beat La Crosse in overtime (at LaX) and got all we could handle from Oshkosh in the conference tournament and Trinity (Tx) in the Elite 8.  And that team had more coming back than this Point team.

That isn't to say that there weren't some laughers...  16 of the 29 wins were by 20+ points... but there were plenty of games where things weren't exactly right... but the experience and depth paid off and the game was won by Point.  In each of the three losses, the home team just wouldn't be denied... In each instance guys had tremendous games... Reitzner for Platteville was unconscious, as was Jahnke for Oshkosh, and Manchester just beasted his way to the hole time and time again.

That's the crazy thing about basketball... some nights can just simply not be your night.  Those three games were the only 3 regular season games where Point let up 70+ points... and they lost each one.  The only one during the post season where they let up 70+ was a 87-77 victory in the conference tourney final that was a shootout... it was 47-43 at halftime.

There's going to be a night where somebody's sick or they twisted and ankle in practice or any number of things... or a night when the opponent is just feeling it.  This isn't a patsy league... it's still the toughest league in D-III.  The WIAC had an 81% winning percentage vs. the rest of D-III last year and remember... #9 River Falls beat conference champ Whitewater and almost knocked off MIAC champ St. Thomas, and they've got everybody coming back, plus Manor.  Superior loses Hill but has the core of that team back too.  There are some teams with question marks... but there are more teams without huge gaps.

This next year is going to be, as usual, a great year for WIAC basketball.

For you WIAC followers looking for something to do this weekend, UW-Platteville, UW-Whitewater, UW-Oshkosh, & UW-River Falls will be participating in the Jimmy V Classic in Wisconsin Dells on Saturday and Sunday.

Schedule Info

I took the liberty of summarizing the schedule for WIAC fans.  I don't totally get the schedule because it doesn't appear as if all teams play the same number of pool games, but here it is anyway. All games at Just A Game Fieldhouse.

July 17
12:00 pm - Platteville vs. Whitewater
1:00 pm - Oshkosh vs. River Falls
3:00 pm - Platteville vs. Swingers
3:00 pm - Whitewater vs. Oshkosh
5:00 pm - River Falls vs. Swingers
5:00 pm - Platteville vs. Oshkosh

July 18
11:00 am - #4 Seed vs. #5 Seed
1:00 pm - #4/#5 Winner vs. #1 Seed
1:00 pm - #3 Seed vs. #2 Seed
3:00 pm - Championship Game

Whitewater wins the championship over Oshkosh.  Always a nice change of pace for officiating going from a U13 to a WIAC mens game.

Negri, Free, Edmunds, and I think Lucas Burns...could be wrong on that one.

Kori Vernon also played, along with someone else who I'm not quite sure who he was.  They had 6 guys both days and that is about all I could tell you.

Thanks PHF.

I'm really interested to see how Edmunds advances this year.  He took a big step last year and was playing pretty well by the end of the season.  I'm hoping he can take off from there.

Did Oshkosh have Marsh if Whitewater had Vernon?

No, and Marsh didn't play with Oshkosh last year at this tournament.  It is called "College Division", but essentially I think its a Open Mens division.

Anyone know where to get a copy of the NCAA D3 championship game?

Try emailing the UWSP SID.
I tried looking here... http://www.ncaa.com/shop/ ... but I wasn't able to find it.

Maybe PioneerHoopsfan can confirm this, but I heard over the weekend that G Shane Kieler has decided to graduate early, and will not be playing for Platteville this season.  That could be a bit of a blow to the Pioneers, as I would assume he was penciled in to start this season after the graduation of both Curt Hanson and Mike Shaw.
