I have to say you don't miss a thing with Whitewater Football, basketball, or baseball.  I think Byrd gives Whitewater the nod over Point this year.  He's extremely athletic and will create major problems.

Suicide Squeeze - I am pretty sure you told us that Point was going to dominate this year? Now Whitewater gets Byrd and they have the nod over point?  Can't wait for this season.

I did state Point would dominate but also did not know Whitewater was going to bring in what they've brought in.  However, I do think these 2 programs will both be top 5 in the nation for the entire year with 1 going to the National Championship game.  I keep hearing Jenkins is not playing baskeball.  Anyone know if this is true?  That would be a devastating blow to the basketball team.  Anyone else think Whitewater may pull off the triple crown this year taking titles in football, basketball, and baseball?  Their football team obviously has the best chance but their baseball team will be stacked and their basketball team should be better than last year.

No one will know about Jenkins until the end of the football season.  If he has an incredible year and has a shot of making a NFL roster, which would be pretty difficult, there is a good chance he would miss the basketball season.  His heart is in football.  It would be a huge blow for UWSP.  But either way Byrd is a huge pick up for whitewater.  I am still waiting for UWSP to announce their class.  I know it's the transfer Jackson, Johnston, and at least one other guy from out of state.  Interested to see how it shapes up.

Speaking in third person is fun.

Just Bill says this is the post of the year!  Just Bill might issue a press release about it.

Sounds like a pretty good group, adding a couple of 3 pt shooters in Pohle and Johnston and a hustling defender in Mauch. If Ziemer joins the team as speculated several pages ago finding a spot on the floor will be tough in the coming season. Seven new players into three spots won't work unless the tail end of the bench changes faces.

Former UW-Whitewater standouts Dustin Mitchell and Myles McKay recently signed professional contracts to play basketball in Europe.

Point looks to have added a very solid class, and if rumors of Ziemer joining the team are true, an even more impressive group.  I'm still surprised with them losing Hurd, Krull and Hoelzel after this year that they didn't add any size.  The lone big guy on their roster after this year is Brezinski.  Hopefully they get a couple transfer big guys for next year.

John Gleich

Generally, I'm not too concerned if there isn't a TON of size and there aren't huge big guys...  Hoelzel and Krull can hold their own inside and Brezinski is a big body.

But what I do get concerned about is going up against guys like Ruchs a few years ago from Wash U or the big kid from Williams (who's back this year).  Those guys were big and very skilled.

Generally, if you go with a smaller more mobile lineup (that can still jump and thus rebound well) you can cause mismatches for the other guys every bit as much as they cause mismatches for you and good TEAM defense can negate a good inside threat.

Part of the problem is when you have good inside AND outside threats... like Williams last year (led the country in 3 pt shooting AND field goal percentage) and Wash U a couple of years ago.

But even if you had a big guy, it doesn't mean he could match up with a good inside guy... or that you'd be able to match those types of teams.
