I think that Jim Strick is a name that many will think about for this position.  But, he was recently hired by the Neenah school district as its activities director, so I don't know if he'd be available.  For those interested about this, just do a quick search of "jim strick neenah" and there are several stories about this.

What about Semling as AD?

Seems to me the timing might be right ... good guy (Randall) to hand off the team.

I'd put low odds on Semling. While he's a very good coach, I don't get the feeling he's considered a leader in the athletic department. I think he's happy where he's at and wants to keep coaching.

Jim Strick would be very good, but I don't know if he would want to leave Neenah after just one year, and I don't know if UWSP would consider him to have enough administration experience. But I'd be in favor of Strick.  (Also, I don't know the financials, but Neenah HS might pay more than UWSP. Just guessing.)

I wouldn't be surprised to hear Jack Bennett's name come up either.

What about Shirley Egner?  Getting close to retirement I'm sure would like a pay increase for the last few years to help out her retirement.

I was gonna mention Coach Bennett, but thought maybe he's still keeping  a low profile and enjoying his retirement... ;)

Egner I must admit I hadn't thought of, but that would be an interesting choice, too. Probably a good one, but who knows how long she will coach? She still seems to have the passion and love for the game...

I'm sure all our candidates mentioned here are all cringing, or maybe not, over their names being bantied about here. Ha.

Oh, I did refresh my memory on the recent UWL AD search, and those candidates had a variety of backgrounds, too...

Just Bill

Egner is the Senior Woman Administrator so I'm sure she'd get consideration if she wanted it. I just don't feel like she'll ever step away from the sidelines. She seems to be getting more passionate every year, not less.

I read over at wissports.net that UW whitewater might be losing some players.  Negri out with back surgery.  Nolan Free decided not to go out this year and possibly 2 or 3 recruits/transfers not playing due to legal problems.  Has anyone heard any of this?  I know the Negri situation is true but I haven't heard about any of the other stuff.  I was on their website and there is no longer a article about their recruiting class.

Falcons scrimmaging St. Mary's tonight. 7pm at the Karges Center. Excited to get my first look at the Shane Manor led Falcons. Sounds like they are playing a much more uptempo style.

I have heard some very encouraging reports from practice.  Sounds like the addition of Manor could take this team to the next level, granted it will be a lot tougher without Wade Guerin.

I'd heard the reports about Negri and Free but not about the others.  Is Negri out or just limited?

Not going to lie, I was extremely shocked when I saw the post that RF received votes... But the Falcons have the potential to be a Top-25 team by the end of the year.

I watched the scrimmage last night, but had a tough time getting a good read on the Falcons. You know how scrimmages are, no score and lots of subs. Their were a few new faces that looked solid. JC transfer Brian Kimble looks like a guard who can contribute right away.  Freshman Taylor Peterson hit some deep 3's.

Sophomore Zach Peterson looked almost like a Wade Guerin clone at times last night, although I dont think he has Wade's ability to knock down the outside shot.  Ollie White seemed to have put on some good weight.

Shane Manor made a few spectacular plays. A no-look cross lane pass on the break that made two defenders look silly.  Although he did look tentative at time, didnt really take it to the bucket as much as he did when he single-handedly beat the Falcons in January of 2009. But it was only the first scrimmage, they play an exhibition at Concordia-St. Paul on Novemeber 6th.  I wont be there due to my yearly trip to Lambeau Field.

Here's another piece about Terry Porter and Lewis and Clark.

And one two more about Frank O'Brien.

Any news on the "mystery" Whitewater team? Who is trying out?

tomt4525

I'm curious to hear about Whitewater as well?  Also, any updates on how practices are looking around the WIAC?  I haven't heard much about any team since practice started.  What players are looking good?  How are the newcomers in Stevens Point looking?  If Ziemer and the newcomers are as good as advertised, they are gonna make a lot of noise in the postseason again.

River Falls picked 8th?   ???  Do they know something we don't, or vice versa?
