If the weather cooperates, I plan on heading to Stevens Point tomorrow and possibly stopping by the Oshkosh vs. River Falls game.  I've never seen a "trap game" live before!  ;D ??? ::) ;)

Make sure you bring this guy with you as your co-pilot instead of Swampgoon, Tom:

Superior beat Northwestern last night, 81-65.

After Saturday's conference games, the teams combine to play 32 non conference games between the 11th of Dec and Jan 3rd.  There are just 3 games remaining, two for Finlandia vs. Eau Claire and Oshkosh vs. Silver Lake.

The conference is currently at 29-16 overall against non-con foes (64%) and 21-9 against in-region non-con teams (70%).  That's quite a bit down from last year:

Overall: 63-17  (78.75%)
Vs. In-region:  52-11  (82.5%)

That means the WIAC would collectively need to go 34-1 in their remaining non-con schedule to match the overall record from last year.

NOT

GONNA

HAPPEN

So what are the implications of this?  Well, when teams are trying to work their way into an at-large bid in the NCAA tournament, their OWP will not be as high and their OOWP won't be either.

Ultimately though, the overall winning percentage doesn't count for anything other than bragging rights.  It's the in-region winning percentage that really matters (and, by inference, the in-region OWP and OOWP)

Thre are 33 remaining in-region games left, so the WIAC would have to be 32-2 against in-region opponents to match last year's number.  Yikes!

Oshkosh is playing Silver Lake again?  Why?   ??? ??? ???

No idea.  This isn't the first year that they've played the Lakers twice.  The only thing I can think of is that they potentially could have scheduling issues... the game is in the thick of conference play on Oshy's bye week.

That Eau Claire plays Finlandia twice is kind of a head-scratcher too... but at least they're a D-III school!  Helps that they're an independent too and so they're available when everybody else in the land is playing the conference schedule.

Okay--now I feel guilty! I guess what you have here is the cynicism of old age vs the exuberance of youth. But I too "go nuts" when the Falcons are winning!

And you're right, stoutguy. I hang on every word of radio gurus like you. When RF plays Stout, an afternoon game, maybe you will be free to drink a beer (if I buy)?

You are on, Mayor.  And yes, I do plan to have you buy.

You have half of the equation right PS.  Oshkosh did indeed have trouble finding a NC opponent, so they had to schedule the Sisters of the Poor.  However, part of the deal was that it had to be a "home-and-home" or The School of the Blind wasn't going to play.  The game is actually at the end of the season, which is why a lot of teams didn't want to add a game right before the start of Conference Tournaments.

when are teams planning on traveling, specifically, River Falls.  Oshkosh should be right on the edge of a huge snow storm this weekend.  I think it could jeopardize the game since its an afternoon game.

Yeah, it's tough to get those non-con games late in the season... you either need to find an indy like Finlandia or an NAIA team who doesn't have as strict a limit on the number of games... which is exactly what EC and Oshy did.  If you want games during that part of the season, you've gotta take what you can get.

I saw the Falcons jet land at Outagamie International in Appleton a few minutes ago.  So they are here to play.  Must be nice to travel in style.

UWSP vs. Macalester is postponed today.

Probably fortunate for the Pointers....this could be a trap game.
