Let's say that somebody starts college and doesn't play sports for the first two years of college.

Does this then mean that, when they start playing their third year, they aren't able to play four full seasons?  That doesn't seem right.
That would be correct.... however they could play a 4th year if they really wanted to.  How you may ask?

Let's say a football player does exactly what your example says.  He goes to school for 2 years (4 semesters) and doesn't play at all.  In year three he decides to play.  In year four he decides to play.  In year five he plays.  At the end of the football season, he would have nine semesters completed, but still have a year of eligibility left.  He doesn't take classes his Spring semester, and returns next fall for his 10th semester and last year of eligibility.

I was thinking about this same scenario with Thomas.  One would think that if he was only going to be able to play a semester, why not have it be 2nd semester when the core of the WIAC schedule is played.  My guess?  He will be done academically at the end of the year, and wants to move on with his life.  Can't really blame the guy!!

I'm just wondering how he's done with 10 semesters... after the first semester of 10-11.  I'm not discounting anybody's ability to count to 10... and his path to where we are today looks a little less than standard... but it just seems strange that he would have gone to school (somewhere) for the previous 4 and a half years, instead of just the previous 4 years.

What do you do as a student after 10 semesters?  Must be a boring existence with 12 credit NCAA minimum.  What do you do with all your extra time?

The WARHAWKS beat Marian last night 82-71 in a game that can best be described as listless and lethargic.  It was hard to tell which team want to play less.  The WARHAWKS shot 58.6% in the first half and led by fifteen 45-30. However in the second half they only shot 35% making just 7 or 20 shots and saw the lead dwindle to as few as six points on a couple of occassions.  Marian took thirteen more shots (62 to 49) and out rebounded the WARHAWKS 36-30 including a 14 to 6 advantage on the offensive boards.  Free throws pretty much were the difference as the WARHAWKS went 29-33 and Marian just 14-16.

Antone Byrd led the team in scoring with 28 points including a perfect 18-18 from the charity stripe.  Chris Davis had a double-double 23 points, 11 rebounds.  DJ Danzler also scored in double figures with 16 points.

The WARHAWKS will host Carroll University Tuesday night.

As a NCAA D3 athlete, I averaged 15 credits a semester, and it still took me 5 1/2 years to graduate.  People can "rip" on me all I want, but I was happy with my time in college, and was able to graduate with a 3.3 GPA.  Not spectacular, but good enough to get a job.... ;D  I would say it all depends on how many credits are required for your major and minor.  I wanna say mine was just over 150 combined.

I'm not trying to say that it should only take 10 semesters or that some people don't take longer than 10 semesters.  I was in for 6, years, thanks to transferring and switching majors a few times.  But the first 10 were the 10 I played (one redshirt, 4 years of eligibility).  I don't just understand how the end of the 10th semester comes in the middle of the year.

Mr. Ypsi

Have no idea about this particular case, but that would not be unusual.  Some students first enroll in second semester; some need to drop out a semester to earn tuition money.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the 10 semester rule doesn't apply if your not a full time student. Meaning if you take less than 12 credits one semester it does not count as one of your ten semesters.

I had no money in college and no one to help so I graduated in 3 years.

But in that case, they wouldn't be eligible to play basketball for that particular semester (i.e. the second half of that season).  That didn't happen, at least while he was at Stout, but it also didn't happen in a different season while he played basketball for the first semester, because then he wouldn't have been eligible for ANY of this season.

I know that Thomas transferred from a JC... maybe he was there for 3 semesters, or something...?  And only played for 2 of those?  Then played for the last 2 at UWS and then only had one semester left?

From over on the fantasy board... is Mahlon Thomas honestly done?  And unless he's ineligible based on this last semester, I don't know how he can be ineligible.  People said he had been enrolled 10 semesters, but I didn't think that D-III had a clock the same way the scholarship divisions did.
Well if he is indeed done, he went out on a"high" note, scoring a career high 20 points to go along with 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks in a 96-77 victory over Viterbo Saturday night.

One question however, if he would be done at Semester, why would he be able to play last night?  Graduation ceremonies were held yesterday afternoon at Stout.  (Not that I really care, just trying to hold out hope for the sake of my fantasy team....  ;D)

I had a friend with over 180 hours when he finally decided to graduate from UWL.  He just kept taking classes until he decided it was time to get on with his life.

I've got two masters degrees and he has more college credits than I do!
