How anyone could argue with Berkhof being midseason coach of the year

Stoutguy, will you be making the trek down to WHITEWATER Saturday afternoon?  If so I might be able to get you a bottle of water.  ;)

Stoutguy has been basking in the rays in Mexico for a couple weeks on a bikini quality control mission.

He's got a bottle of something in his hands at all times, and I guarantee you it's not water.  8-)

I just read a very well written story about the coach, Scott Lang, at La Roche College, near Pittsburgh who passed away a few weeks ago:

http://www.thepostgame.com/homepage/201101/big-coach-little-gym#

When I was at Point, we went out to Pittsburgh for a couple of games, playing Carnegie Mellon and La Roche.  Neither game was very close... especially the one against La Roche (80-43) and  I remember their coach was almost apologetic about how poor of a game that it ended up being.

Well, La Roche has won nine straight since losing their coach and they're 17-1.  He's left a lasting legacy there and I hope that this run continues for La Roche.  They just got some votes in the top 25 for the first time ever.

Does anyone know if Ziemer of Point is hurt for the entire year?  I thought I heard he was supposed to be back around this time.

i was wondering the same thing.  Coach Semling at the beginning of the season said January or December.  So hopefully he comes back soon.  I would like to see how good of a player he is.  I am not sure what his injury was, other than a knee injury that required surgery.

SP destroys Superior 89-48.  Jake Smith held to just 7... he's still 7 shy of Superior's scoring record.

RF played perhaps their best game so far with their 93-74 win over Oshkosh. After a 43-22 half time lead, the Falcons extended their advantage to as much as 29 half way thru the second half.

But give the Titans credit: they battled all the way. Flanigan is as hard nosed a player as there is in the conference. He banged hard into the bleachers after a loose ball, knocking himself woozy, so it looked, but he stayed in the game, scoring about 19. They are a young team. Washington is quick inside and will be a force if he keeps after it.

Aaron Anderson led the way for the Falcons w/19, followed by Manor, Voeltz, Koonkaew, and Johnson--all in double figures. U.T. Udo, out two games now, may be lost to the team for academic reasons. That will hurt us.

Anderson kept his league leading three point percentage with 4/5. He entered the game at plus 50% on threes.

Made my first and possibly my last Pointer game of the season today.  Superior was no match for the Dawgs as they raced out to a 7-pt. lead 5 minutes into the game and then hit double digits for good with 10 to play.  It was 42-23 at the break and there was no looking back.  Nice to see a lot of players get some good minutes in.  Only two players, Krull and Harris, played more than 20 minutes with Ritchay, Jackson, Brezinski and Giordana getting extended minutes (15-19 minutes).  Jake Smith came into the game just 14 points off the Superior scoring record, but Krull held him to 3-12 shooting.  I would still like to see the 3rd set of 5 players get more than two minutes of playing time.  Point was up 35 with 6 minutes to play.  I think guys at the end of the bench could get in for the last 5 minutes.

It was a very nice crowd, almost 1400, to see the game.  I'm not sure how much of it was because of alumni weekend or what, but I was surprised of the turnout.  Said hello to a few folks I haven't seen all season, so it's nice to get in a game.  Superior is better than the record, taking River Falls to the limit in both games, losing to Platteville in OT and some other good results.  Point looked real good at times and I'm looking forward to the rest of the season.

Thanks for having my back BDB and thanks BW for checking up on this ol boy.  After the football season, I decided to take a radio break and have just been doing the radio show (when I'm not doing the beer thing that BDB is talking about).  Just got home tonight and didn't hear a very good report regarding my boys.  Oh, well, it is only a game, I guess.

He bought tickets and they will go to the pickem winner.  The good news is that Big K won't go, so anyone could win them!  :P

Apparently after Ollie White picked up his fourth personal foul midway through the second half, Titan Head Coach Ted Van Dellen had some less than flattering words for White. I am not entirely sure of the exact words that were used but it sounded like it went some like this...

Van Dellen: "Hey 33, you are an a$$hole. (more expletives followed)"

Brady Hannigan: "Come on, Coach, stay classy!"

Van Dellen: "You are an a$$hole too!"

Van Dellen was T'ed up later in the half and that tech was building for a while. It was his 3rd T in his last 3 trips to Karges.

The game was getting a little chippy at this point, but the refs were calling everything in site including that foul on White (which was an obvious foul) so I am not sure what warranted this outburst. But really nothing should warrant this kind of behavior from a coach. I realize you get mad, but man have some self control!!

My goodness, I can't help but think what kind of a reaction "Titan2000" would have had regarding this whole scenario.  I'm sure it would have included some reference to Ted's hunting prowess.

Since I have a little time, I just wanted to say that I was real impressed with Jerrel Harris.  I'm not sure anyone in the Pointer circle thought he would be leading the team in scoring.  I thought Dan Tillema or Louis Hurd would be in that lead.  It's great to know that we get Harris for two more years, barring him declaring for the draft early! LOL.  He leads the team in 3-pters made and 3-pt % with over 50% made.  Not surprising, he leads the team in steals (26, though Krull has 25 and D. Tillema has 20-eight players have double-digit steals).

What I am little concerned about is his assist/turnover ratio of 51/41.  Tyler Tillema and Krull are both +18 in that category and I would hope you'd get a better ratio from your point guard.  I still think he plays too fast sometimes.  Overall though, Point's guards are real good with Tyler Tillema playing well, Giordana shooting at a high rate and even DeVon Jackson showing flashes last night.  As usual, the concern in the future will be at the 3-5 spots with Hurd, Krull and Hoelzel all graduating this year.  Brezinski looks good if he stops shooting from outside 10 feet! LOL.

I can't disagree with anything said here.  Jerrell has really picked up his game lately.  Like you mentioned, he does turn the ball over a little more than you would want out of your point guard, but he does so many things for Point that you can't really gripe about that.  He is really taking good shots and making a high percentage from the outside, I can only hope that continues.

As for the future, I too am a little worried next year for the 3-5 spots.  Dan Tillema can do perfectly fine at the 3 but there needs to be some depth behind him.  I really wanted to see what Ziemer could do this year, doesn't seem like that is gonna happen.  I still expect him to be a player and hopefully he can give some depth at the 3-4 next year.  I am definitely going to be paying attention to Semling's recruiting class this coming year, he needs some impact players.  I'm expecting a few transfer bigs that will be able to help instantly.  Does anyone know what high school kids Semling has been recruiting this year?  I know it's a long shot, but I just want any information I can find.
