Great road win for the Hawks at River.  I bet DLK is smiling right now!

badgerwarhawk

The WARHAWKS hand River Falls their first conference loss 70-66.  The WARHAWKS jumped out to a 5-0 lead which eventually grew to ten points midway through the half before settling in at six points 29-23 at the buzzer.  WHITEWATER scored first in the second half but River Falls made a 9-1 run to tie the game 32-32.  After WHITEWATER took another lead RF tied it again at 38-38 and the scenario repeated itself again at the 12:30 mark with a tie score of 43-43.  At that point the WARHAWKS took a lead they would build to a high of seven points 64-57 with just over a minute to go.  Shaky free throw shooting (6-11) in the final two minutes kept the Falcons hanging around before Antone Bryd made 1 of 2 to make it a two possession game with :08 remaining.

Chris Davis led the WARHAWKS with 17 points.  Bryd added 15 and a team high 6 rebounds.   Alex Edmunds came off the bench to chip in 14.  Phil Negri had a game high 6 assists and no turnovers.

Jake Voeltz led the Falcons with 22 points.  Shane Manor and Jontae Koonkaew added 15 and 11 respectively.

The two teams combined to shoot 8 of 44 from behind the arc (WW: 6/26 RF: 2/18).  The WARHAWK bench gave the team a big boost outscoring RF's bench 38-23.

You never know which WARHAWK team is going to show up.  Today it was one good enough to get the W.

The Warhawks out played us and deserved to win. You cant shoot 2-16 from 3 and expect to win.

I dont want to sit here and make excuses, but man there was one official who i think was wearing purple. He got an earful (from Miller) after a different ref made a questionable call against the Warhawks. He then warned Miller he needed to calm down. Seconds later there was a tough call against River Falls called by the first official (make-up call, idk?).

The remaining 25 minutes of the game that official didnt call one thing for RF.  Including a big-time block by Brian Kimble (saw the replay after the game 12 inches of daylight between Kimble and Alex Edmunds?) that he called a foul. This official seemed to be in the position (closest to the ball) for every potential momentum changing call that was could have gone either way (they ALL went against us).

Again I hate being the guy to make excuses cause we didnt deserve to win, we were out played. But it was so frustrating. Anyway I am done venting, congrats to the Warhawks on a well deserved victory. Silver lining, hopefully that refocuses the Falcons for their trip to Stevens Point in a week.

This is the one there's a photo of on the front page, right? From underneath the basket, I agree with your assessment.

LaX 75 @Super 63
Platte 64 @EC 45
WW 70 @RF 70
Osh 72 @Stout 65

   Team      Overall      +/-      Home      Away
   RF      12-1      4      7-1      5-0
   SP      10-2      4      6-0      4-2
   WW      7-5      2      3-2      4-3
   LaX      7-6      1      5-1      2-5
   Platte      6-6      1      3-2      3-4
   Oshy      5-8      -1      3-3      2-6
   Stout      3-10      -3      2-4      1-6
   EC      3-9      -4      3-4      0-5
   Sup      3-9      -4      2-5      1-4

All four away teams win... the only result that could be considered surprising (based on conference standings) would be the WW over RF, especially based on how each team had been playing (RF hot, WW.... not so much, at least not on Wed).  However, Oshkosh and La Crosse each pick up just their second road victories on the year.

The gulf between the top 6 and the 3 who will be left out of the conference tournament seems to be widening... there now is a 1.5-to-2 game separation between these 3 teams and #6.

I noticed that Shane Manor didn't start this game... but he still had a big impact (7/7 from the field for 15 points, 8 rebounds, ).  Perhaps this game might have ended differently if he had played more than 20 minutes.  Any insight as to why he played less?

I just watched the recap on RF's site... gosh Manor is fun to watch...  The whole RF team is.  They just seem to be having a great time playing together (helped, of course, by the season they've been having, I'm sure...).  I can't wait to see RF @ SP on Saturday!  The fam is making the trip up north for the game!

And the atmosphere at Karges seems pretty special this year.  They always seemed to have at least a few vocal students... but it seems like the students have come out in greater numbers to support the team and there's an energy there this year that wasn't at least as recently as 6 or 7 years ago (the last time I was there).

It was senior night so the four seniors started for the Falcons along with Ollie White. He was in foul trouble a bit early, and Berkhof chose to sit him with two fouls for an extended period.  Late in the game with four he sat about a good 5 min stretch as well, came back with 2 min left.

Ill be in SP next weekend, you'll have to come introduce yourself.

Yes sir. This was the one. I dont know what Coach Miller said to this official but every coach in the country should find out, cause it worked. Trying to be as unbiased as I can and someone who had officiated a lot of games, I would never have taken that much heat.  It was a good 20-30 seconds of "in your face" yelling. Miller deserved a T.

The official in question didnt agree with the call made prior to Miller yelling at him, that to me was very obvious. I didnt necessarily agree with it either.  One thing I have learned from great officials is "admit it was the wrong call, but never make up for it." This guy spent an entire half making it up to the Warhawks.

Again, done venting. I promise this time.  ;)

I'm not sure how you can form an opinion about the call from a still shot photo, Pat.  Particularly one that is taken before the shot is even released.  ???

It isn't like we haven't had our fair share of questionable calls go against us this year so I guess these things just have a way of evening out over the course of a season.  And I seriously doubt any official in the league would spend "an entire half making it up" for one team.  No offense intended but that is absurd and it suggests that official has no integrity.  Officials usually wear black and white stripes.

Based on the records and how the team has been playing the game was an upset but if you'd seen the game between the two teams in WHITEWATER it might not seem so unexpected.  We should have beaten them here and only a minute and half of insanity prevented it.

At any rate I really like RF's team and I like Coach Berkhof.  They've been on verge of putting it together for the past couple of seasons and this year it looks like they've gotten over the hump.  He's doing an excellent job in my opinion and I wish them the best of luck in any game but one against us.

Pat was at the game.

And I didnt mean that he actually was trying to make up for it for the whole half, but it sure seemed liked it. I just needed to vent a little bit, cause it was really frustrating.

The Warhawks deserved to win that basketball game they outplayed us.

No, the print is too small for me to read.  My bad.  I hope you enjoyed the game.  It's my understanding that the student body has rallied around the team and it must have made the venue an electric one.  It sounded like it on the radio broadcast I was listening to.

That is a big change over the game against Oshkosh when UWRF students yelled other students for cheering and even complained to security that their fellow students were being to loud.
