... I dont know what Coach Miller said to this official but every coach in the country should find out, cause it worked. Trying to be as unbiased as I can and someone who had officiated a lot of games, I would never have taken that much heat.  It was a good 20-30 seconds of "in your face" yelling. Miller deserved a T.

The official in question didnt agree with the call made prior to Miller yelling at him, that to me was very obvious. I didnt necessarily agree with it either.  One thing I have learned from great officials is "admit it was the wrong call, but never make up for it." This guy spent an entire half making it up to the Warhawks.

For better or for worse, some coaches have... certain reputations... regarding their demeanor and their temperaments on the court.  That means that the refs will accept more from certain coaches than from others, in terms of calling technical fouls.  TVD certainly has a reputation... and it's pretty remarkable what he DOESN'T get T'd up for.  What's interesting is that other coaches will get T'd up for less... because it's a bit more out of character.

There was a certain game (ironically against Oshkosh) my sophomore year that we won by 19... but we were up 31 at the half (48-17) against an Oshkosh team that made it to the Elite 8.  Interestingly, Coach Bennett actually got tossed from that game, without swearing or anything close to it.  TVD rarely talks to the refs without an obscenity or two... but didn't get T'd up.

Coach Bennett kind of had a reputation for riding the refs... and I'm not going to say that he didn't go to excess occasionally (though he didn't have a T in the game before the Oshkosh game, he'd gotten one each of the previous 3), but it wasn't with obscenities.  It's just interesting what some coaches can get away with and what others can't.

... And some refs just have thicker skin than others.

I assume Schrimpf is hurt?  He didn't play much at all on Saturday.

He got hurt early on in the game.  I started watching the game online about midway through the first half and the announcers alluded to Schrimpf getting hurt and not coming back.  I can't remember what was said as the specific injury though.

Here's a nice piece about SP Senior Vinny Ritchay  LINK

He's been a great spark off the bench for SP this season and has been very efficient, despite not being a go-to guy.

Pretty sure he broke his nose. Buccholtz got through the lane and looked like he caught Schrimp with an elbow. Spent about 5 or 6 minutes trying to clean up the puddle of blood from the floor.

Ironically, that's also what happened right after BDB tried to stick Stoutguy with the bar tab.

With Superior's win over Stout tonight and Oshkosh's loss to la Crosse, it appears that Saturday's SUP/OSH game will be an early "playoff" game.  The winner is likely in the WIAC Tournament as the #6 seed, while the loser is likely out.  With Superior defeating Oshkosh earlier in the season, a win by the Yellow Jackets would go a long way.(5-9 vs 5-10, with 5-9 holding the season sweep and both teams having Whitewater left on the schedule, while Superior also has Eau Claire.)

Greek Tragedy

Platteville and Whitewater split.  Superior has already beaten Oshkosh once this year.  Whitewater also split with River Falls while Platteville already has beaten Point, something Whitewater didn't do this season.

The WARHAWKS started cold from the field making just two of their first nine shots while the Pioneers went seven of thirteen and built a seven point lead in the first five minutes of the game.  They increased the lead to nine points on three occassions in the first half before the WARHAWKS had a run to close within a point 30-29 when the half ended.  The WARHAWKS opened the second half with a pair of three pointers and ten consecutive points from Chris Davis to take their first lead 39-33 in the first three minutes.  The WARHAWKS maintained the lead until the seven and half minute mark when Platteville tied the game 51-51.  A Cody Odegaard three pointer put the WARHAWKS back in the lead but a Stangel three pointer tied it and a Weik three pointer put the Pioneers ahead for good.

Davis led three WARHAWKS with double figure points with 16.  Antone Byrd finished with 12 and Alex Edmunds had 10.

Nick Allen had 16 points and Chas Cross 15 to lead the Pioneers.  The Pioneers had 16 assists on 23 baskets.

It's hard to say how the team will finish the conference season.  We have three home games and all three are against teams we've beaten once already.  Both Platteville and LaCrosse have Stevens Point and River Falls on their schedules.  If we could just find a way to be more consistant, in a positive direction, we could finish 10-6 with the #3 seed and play a home game to start the conference tournament.  However with this team that's a big "if."

After watching Superior last night against Stout, I have a question.  How in the world did this team lose all these games?  I would suggest that if they get in the tournament, they will be dangerous.

badgerwarhawk

Evidently you were out in the sun too long.  ;) :D

Seriously, I also thought Superior would have a better record this year and agree with your assessment.  These past couple of years they seem to have played pretty well in the conference tournament.

Heard from a UWSP source today...Dan Tillema out for 4-6 weeks with an elbow injury suffered in practice - avulsion fracture in his left elbow.  I really think that hurts the Pointers.

bballBG

The 4-6 weeks probably means the rest of the season.
