What is up with Al Chery? Saw he didn't play last night either.

Heard from a UWSP source today...Dan Tillema out for 4-6 weeks with an elbow injury suffered in practice - avulsion fracture in his left elbow.  I really think that hurts the Pointers.

I saw a picture of his bruised arm on Twitter last night and I heard the injury was similar to Andrew Bogut's from last spring.  There's a video of that on the in-game updates thread... certainly not for the faint of heart.

Since we are trying to find out stories about different players, any idea why Helland didn't start for Superior last night?  He came off the bench to play, but his minutes seemed to be down.

PS--I salute the Pointer athletes for their community service. In many ways, that trophy will be the greatest won by Pointer athletes this year, or any year.

I agree.  I think the story had it right... it really is a testament to how Frank O'Brien ran the athletic department.  I said it before, but his leadership was top notch.

The 4-6 weeks probably means the rest of the season.
Talked to Coach Semling today (He is going to be on our Sat. morning show at 9:05) WMEQ.com (Listen Live) and he said he would be without Tillema for the regular season for sure, but depending how deep they can get into playoffs, hopes to have him back.

And this is where we really see what kind of depth SP really has.  10 guys are averaging 13 or more minutes and they're all averaging 4.8 or more.  6 different guys have led the team in scoring.  And only 5 times has that guy been Dan Tillema.  But he is averaging 9.9 points and has the ability to score in bunches... and he's a heck of an athlete.

Either way, I'm really excited to see the game tomorrow!  Should be packed, I think!

Oh, and Pointer fans, it's a Gold Out, so come decked in gold!

...  This is what Point had last year LINK  That's Matt Moses' highlight video.  3 games of 30+.

Maybe this year's team has that guy... or maybe they don't and they don't need it, who knows...!

RF @ SP was a fun game... SP started the game 11/13 and stayed in control for much of the game.  RF didn't go away and the lead didn't get any greater than 16... but it also didn't get fewer than 4 points (when RF scored the first two buckets of the half after being down by 8 at the half).

Greek Tragedy

Prior to this weekend's games, I was thinking of a short list of Player of the Year candidates.  If any of you remember, I chose Chris Davis as my midseason POTY.  He has great numbers averaging nearly a double double at the time.  I think Mane could be a candidate simply because he carries La Crosse.  I think Manor and Voeltz are in the mix but they cancel out each other's votes.  Previously, I stated my surprise on how well Jerrel Harris has played for Point.  After today's performance, I think he is definitely in the mix.  28 points (I think) and eight assists in a huge game against 1st place River Falls.  I think he has a chance to establish himself as a legit contender over the last three games, especially with Dan Tillema out.  More of the scoring load will be put on his shoulders.  What a great player!  Please address me as the President of the Jerrel Harris for Player of the Year Fan Club!  ;D :D ;) :)

I think it's the Mane/Smith show...  and Mane will win it.  I'm not sure about who the other all-time leading scorers are for other schools (other than Kalsow for Point... and he was th POTY), nor for their selection as conference POTY... but, like Kalsow, most of the other top all-time scorers in Pointer history were POTY... Kalsow, Tim Naegli, Terry Porter, John Julius, Brant Bailey...  Some top ones weren't, like Josh Iserloth, Tom Ritzenthaller, and Nick Bennett (though Kalsow won it their senior years...)
