Nice story on Davis.

Regarding Cubs' link, surprised we don't hear from Nonemacher more since it seems like he's still in the Fox Valley area.  Maybe he became a Lawrence fan! LOL  ;D

UWRF and UWSP still predicted in the Bracketology from the front page to qualify for the NCAA's.

I would say at this point UWSP is a slam dunk, and I hope UWRF is.

You and me both...  :-\

My goal since I took over the pbp duties was to call an NCAA Tourney game (the first in UWRF history) and seeing as how this is my last chance I would very much appreciate it.  :)

Anyone know how the hosting is decided once the NCAA tourney starts?  If both UWSP men and women win the conference tourneys and get a chance to host, who gets first choice?  Men or Women?  How is it decided?  I know home court was huge for UWSP men last year.

I just had a flashback to watching Melzer get a technical when up by 7 with a minute left against Platteville.  Hopefully this year's team has a better end to the season than that.

:-XHosting rights rotate each year for each weekend.  Its men's choice every other year for the 1st weekend and then women's choice opposite years and then rotates the following weekend.  Not sure what year it is though.  Got that?  For example, if its men's choice 1st weekend, its womens choice 2nd weekend and then next year its the opposite.

Oh yeah, even though the men and women play in different gyms, its impossible for both to host the same weekend.

Not sure if you understand how the selection of Pool C (at large) candidates work, but River Falls needs to win, I believe, their semi final game to have a good shot.  Check the Pool C board for a better idea.  Based on records, the Falcons are on par or better than most teams. If everything is chalk, I don't think anyone from the Atlantic or Midwest regions gets a Pool C bid.  Despite River Falls' 2 losses last week, they may be stilll be first at the table in the West Region come selection time. Point, Whitworth, St. Thomas and Chapman (Pool B) won't factor in, leaving River Falls to battle it out with Whitman, St. Olaf and Carleton to be the first at the selection table.  Even if they are, that doesn't mean they will even get selected.  There have been years when a region didn't even get a Pool C bid while another could get five.

Women have hosting rights for the 1st round this year.  That means mens have rights the 2nd weekend.

River Falls takes a 10 spot tumble in the Top 25 to #22.

Stevens Point up to #4, including a first place vote.

Whitewater receiving votes.

Yeah, really strange.  I was following live stats too.  They had a final score of 54-52.  River Falls is really hurting.  Four losses in a row.  If they lose in the WIAC tourney, that will give them 6 in-region losses...borderline for the NCAA tourney.
It would be strange to only see 1 WIAC school listed in the tourney.  Is that even possible?

Not out of the realm of possibility... though since the tournament expanded four seasons ago,  has only happened once:

2010:  Point and WW
2009: Point, Platte, and WW
2008: Point and WW
2007: Point
2006: Stout, LaX, and WW  (This was the year of the most recent tournament expansion)
2005: Point
2004: Point
2003: Point and Osh
2002: Osh
2001: EC (First year of the "Pool" system I believe)
2000: EC and Point
1999: Platte
1998: Platte and Osh
1997: Platte, Osh, WW, and Point  (tournament was 64 teams this year)
1996: Platte, Osh, and WW
1995: Platte and WW
1994: Platte and WW
1993: Platte and WW
1992: Platte and WW
1991: Platte
1989: WW
1988: WW
1986: WW
1985: WW
1984: WW
1983: WW

Interestingly, the first University of Wisconsin branch campus to appear in the D3 tourney wasn't a WIAC team; it was UW-Milwaukee, which appeared in the 1981-82 tourney as an at-large independent and lost in the opening round to Augustana in Rock Island before beating Beloit in the regional consolation game.

In order to get two into the dance, the WIAC really needs River Falls to win their semi-final or have someone other than Point win the conference tournament.  The most likely to happen would be River Falls to win their semi.    Hard to see anyone knocking off the Pointers in Quandt this year unless they really just have a horrible shooting night.  Just picked up my tickets for Thusday nights game in Point. ;D
