Official  attendance figures from the two venues last night:

in La Crosse ------ 375
in Whitewater ----  253 (three days earlier it was 687)

It's almost as if the home fans knew their teams were going to lose anyway, so why bother to support your teams.  ???  :-[

Of course LX only had 4 home games this year with more fans anyway.

I don't know about LaCrosse but I suspect it's more a case of the students having to pay admission in WHITEWATER.  While there were quite a few on Saturday they were absent in droves Tuesday.  Also Saturday's game was part of a double hitter and some additional fans were present who were attending the women's game.

Shapes up to be a nice tie-breaker rematch between the #22 Falcons and the #4 Pointers on Saturday... Does UWRF need to win to get in?

While we've got one game that was a blowout, and another semi-final that was a barn burner, here's a stat for the day...

Tony Mane finishes his career with 2,095 points, which places him sixth all time in conference history... He did it in 102 games, if my hasty addition is correct...
2592--Nate DeLong (RF), 1946-50
2363--Rich Melzer (RF), 2001-04
2303--Ralph Sims (OSH), 1975-78
2261--Dean Cook (RF), 1987-91
2257--Tony Carr (EC), 1978-82, in 131 games...

None of the others are listed in the career record for games played; Carr is tops with 131; the lowest on the list was 115 games, so therefore, the other four did it in less than 115 games...

#1 Point demolishes #6 Superior 84-52
#2 River Falls survives against #5 Platteville 69-60.  This was a 3 point game under 3 minutes and Platteville led by as many as 15 and much of both halves.

I heard Stevens Point was going to play their game at Johnson Fieldhouse, that's why they were going to Stout! LOL!  ;D :D ;) :)

I guess that explains why Brian was so reluctant to go to Menominee!  :D

We had a pretty good crown Tuesday night, by our standards.  Even a decent turnout of students.

Point got 35 off the bench and both Giordana and Richtay in double figures.  They just outclassed RF today.

Great win by the Pointers this afternoon. I thought the officiating left something to be desired, both teams got away with some blatant fouls that weren't called. But I guess the refs just let 'em play. Louis Hurd continues to pick it up lately. The past few weeks since Dan Tillema went down he has been a real leader on the floor and has become the same type of go-to guy ala Matt Moses last year. This is something that Point needs to continue their run into the NCAA's. Lou scored inside or out today and his defense was excellent on both Manor and Voeltz. Koonkaew was a non-factor in this game and Anderson again got few open looks at the basket. Voeltz spent a lot of time on the bench in the second half, don't know if he was sick or injured, but it appeared something was wrong there. Vinnie Ritchay nailed shot after shot from downtown to stop RF rallies, at one point nailing 3 treys in a row. Point is really peaking at the right time, having won 12 in a row and 19 of their last 20.

Disappointing loss, but not unexpected. Hoped Falcons would compete better--stay within 10-12. Voeltz hurt his shoulder in the Platteville game, but don't know whether that was a factor today.

What are RF's chances to get in Monday?

I think better than 50%.  They're 20-6 in-region... that's a 77% winning percentage.  I think that they will be "on the board" relatively early in the process too...

Here's the last regional rankings:

West Region
1 Whitworth 24-1 24-1
2 St. Thomas 21-3 22-3
3 UW-Stevens Point 21-3 22-3  Pool C
4 Chapman 14-1 21-3  Pool B
5 Carleton 18-5 18-7  Lost in MIAC semi's
6 UW-River Falls 17-5 19-6  Lost in WIAC final
7 Whitman 13-5 18-7
8 Lewis and Clark 12-5 18-7  Lost in NWC semi's
9 UW-Whitewater 16-8 17-8 Lost in WIAC semi's

If you're a River Falls fan, you're cheering HARD for Whitworth and St. Thomas, so they take the Pool A bids from their conferences instead of Pool C bids.  Also, that will get RF on the board quicker, too.  By virtue of getting to the final, it may propel RF ahead of Carleton, though in the projections I've seen, both teams get in.

But, it's all contingent on there being not-too-many upsets that take away bids from teams with better tournament resumes (like Whitworth or St. Thomas).

And, FWIW, Whitworth is tied with Whitman 26-26 at the half.  St. Thomas plays Gustavus Adolphus for the MIAC championship tomorrow.
