Greek Tragedy

I think they are actually 18-6.

They were 17-5 in region through Sunday's games.  Won on Thursday, lost on Saturday.  I went to Lakeland and math wasn't a strong point for me, but I think I'm right.  ;D :D ;) :)

They are at the tail end of the Pool C bids, I think.  Probably 12-15 of 18 Pool C bids.  There's another 8 championship games involving regionally ranked teams and at least one Pool C bid will be taken with the loser of Williams and Middlebury taking one.  The loser of Manchester and Hanover could also take one.

Off the top of my head from the list, I counted about 13 teams that could get Pool C bids prior to River Falls, and that's before Sunday's championship games are done.

The good news for River Falls, I think, is that they'll probably be the 1st team at the Pool C table in the West Region because I think they'll jump Carleton in the last regional rankings.  This of course, as said above, is assumed St. Thomas takes care of business.

You're right... I just looked at the wrong number.

Still, .750 in-region winning percentage... and they should be on the table early.

Mike Shaw was on the Platteville coaching staff the last time they were in WHITEWATER this season.  Don't know about Skemp.

I know I'm getting ahead of myself with the tournament still coming up, but with the conference tourney over I'll try to get a discussion going about next year.

Point-  They really need some impact transfers down low.  They return probably the best guards/wings in the conference but are very thin in the frontcourt with only Brezinski returning who was a contributor last year.  I'm eager to see what Ziemer brings to the table, if he ever plays?  Also, maybe Abegglen can make some big strides and help a little down low with his athleticism?

Key Returnees:  Harris, Tillema, Tillema, Jackson, Giordana, Brezinski

River Falls-  They lose arguably 2 of their 3 best players but get a solid player, Guerin back.  Voeltz and Koonkaew is going to hurt tremendously but they return a solid nucleus that should finish in the top 3.  If Guerin can replace the production of Voeltz, this team could be better than this past years' team.

Key Returnees:  Kimble, Anderson, Guerin, Manor, White, Udo?

Whitewater-  I expect a very good year from the Warhawks next season.  They lose Danzler, Negri and Kujath but I would be surprised if they didn't get a couple transfers or freshman that more than make up for it.  With the return of Edmunds, Byrd and Davis...they will be a force.

Key Returnees:  Byrd, Edmunds, Davis, Odegaard, Bryson

Platteville-  They lose a ton of production out of Allen and Wall.  I expect this to be the Chas Cross show and they will go as far as he can take them.  Gerber and Stangel are solid guards but aren't going to take over a game.  I expect a decent year, probably a 4th or 5th place conference finish.

Key Returnees:  Cross, Stangel, Gerber, Stallion, Weik

Oshkosh-  I expect the Titans to challenge for the 4th place finish in conference.  They return everyone except for Wittwer who were large contributors, could even surprise one of my top 3 teams and finish in front of them.

Key Returnees:  Schrimpf, Flanigan, Washington, Mageland, Kellner, Gregory, Wojahn, Wara

La Crosse:  Lose one guy, but man that is a huge loss.  They potentially could upset a top team but I expect no higher than a 5th or 6th place finish.  Their offense was based on getting the ball to one guy, the coaching staff will have to implement something new.

Key Returnees:  Chery, Rumpel, Tweed, Degner, Heiden, Morrissey, Hanson

Quite frankly, I really don't expect much from Eau Claire, Superior and Stout next season.  Eau Claire loses Fofana and Franklin of a pretty bad team.  Superior loses their top 3 guys off a decent team.  And, Stout loses their top 2 scorers off a bad team.  So, I will just say that these teams will be fighting for the non-conference tourney spots.

What does everyone else think about how next year is gonna shake up?

I'm guessing RF a lock for tournament bid.  Also guessing Jake Smith and Tony Mane share POY and Jeff Berkhof is COY.

I think they're likely in... but it I don't know that they're a lock.  Losing 5 of their last 6 didn't help them any.  It they had won any one of those games, they'd be in lots better shape.

Obviously, if that game had been yesterday's, they'd be golden...  :D

It may come down to the regional ranking in the West... RF or Carleton, though KnightSlappy's projections don't have either of them in as one of the last 4...

Is it noon yet? Man, I can't wait. Im feeling confident, but also nervous.

The D3Hoops bracket projection:

SP Group, @ Concordia (WI):
UW-Stevens Point vs. Centre
St. Norbert vs. Concordia (WI)

RF Group, @ St. Thomas:
UW-River Falls vs. Luther
Northwestern (MN) vs. St. Thomas

The two are on opposite sides of the projected bracket so we could have an all-WIAC National Championship  ;D ;) :) :D
