yes, WW proved it was the best football team despite  being placed on the road but the logic of the comment doesn't hold because of a little factor called home court advantage in basketball. That is why D1 ( I know more $...) is a much more equitable plan..

My point is that given you had home court advantage all the way to the Final Four last year you have little reason to complain about not having it this year.  Or do you expect it every year?  Championship teams overcome obstacles like road games.  Point is surely a good enough team to do that.   Augustana has been ranked first in the midwest region since the rankings came out.  Their record is every bit as good as Point's record.  Point hasn't been ranked first in their region once this year.

You say Point should be rewarded for good play not punished.  Give me one good reason why the same doesn't apply to Augustana.

Good luck Pointers

This is from the final regional ranking from the NCAA on 2/28/2011

All stats are in region

Team                W-L         OWP         OOWP        SOS          W-L vs ranked

Augie               23-3        .522           .535          .537               5-1
St. Thos           23-3        .523          .523           .523               9-2
UWSP              23-3        .551           .519           .540              5-2

UWSP dominated the OWP/OOWP/SOS as compared to St Thomas, but lost out in W-L vs ranked teams. It's obvious that counts more in the rankings. UWSP also outdid Augie in the OWP/OOWP/SOS but has a slightly worse winning %.

By contrast the West's top ranked team, Whitworth had a relatively pathetic OWP/OOWP/SOS of .499/.490/.496 but ended up 26-1 in region and 4-1 vs ranked. From what I can see, these OWP/OOWP/SOS numbers mean very little, wins is the only thing that really counts.

Actually, Augie hasn't been ranked #1 in the region the whole time.  With the week 4 rankings, Augie dropped to #2 behind Concordia of Mequon.

SP matched up favorably against both Augie and UST...

Team      Record (Win%)      OWP      OOWP      SOS      Vs ranked
   Point      23-3 (.885)      0.551      0.519      0.540      5-2
   UST      23-3 (.885)      0.523      0.523      0.523      9-2
   Augie      23-3 (.885)      0.522      0.535      0.527      5-1
I still contend that if SP had beaten UST, they would have been a shoe-in for #2 in the West and that could have helped their hosting chances immensely.  Of course, if Whitworth hadn't broken the home-and-home agreement and played in Stevens Point (or agreed to play them in Las Vegas) then Point would have had a shot at the Pirates as well... and with a W, it could have shaken up the entire regional rankings, regardless of the UST result.

Something similar happened last year... SP beat UST and Whitworth in non-con action but Whitewater swept the regular season series with Point and so they were ahead of SP in the regional rankings... but Point won the conference tournament and that tipped the scales.  The series was now 2-1 to WW, but that one victory was enough to push Point ahead, and that's why, I think, Point hosted instead of having to travel.  That WW had to go the distance they did was certainly a travesty... the Concordia pod was close enough and was two neutral-site games.  Not too much to complain about there.

Look, the men have to travel.  Great!  It's better than being stuck at home, having been knocked out of the tournament already.

It's less than a 300 mile trip and less than 5 hours in the car.  That's not too much farther than the trip to Superior and it's heading SOUTH!  It's sunny here in Illinois right now!  A balmy 41 degrees!

UWSP's reign is over, as St. Thomas wins, 66-64. The Pointers, who kept struggling to catch up but just couldn't do it throughout the second half, finally tied it up in the last half-minute on a trey ... but a UST layup with two seconds left decided the game.

I'd really like to see a Point/Augustana matchup.

I didnt know there was a 3rd place game in each Section!  :)
Great comeback by UWSP, but not enough to overcome Nicolai...Healy with superb night, and Hannon ruled the paint with clutch help from Ervin.

Lets see...UST 3, WIAC 0. Looks about right :)

ST seems to have SP's number...ST did not turn the ball over as much while SP appeared to have a bad game but  that is partly because ST is a very good team. One could kind of get the feeling at half that ST was going to win this one even though Hurd's shot tied it up at the end. They are in the final 4. Congrats to them.

If the WIAC was not in D 3 who and which conference would fill that championship(s) void in BB and FB?

Congrats to Tony Mane (1st team), Jerrel Harris (2nd), Jake Smith (2nd) and Shane Manor (3rd) for making the All-Region teams!

Of the 15 named, Harris is just one of 3 underclassmen and the only one from the top 2 teams that wasn't a senior.

FINALLY! UWRF gets governor's ok to fund new H&HP building on campus, including a new gym. Construction will begin in 2013. However, no new pool included because of cost concerns (13 million for new pool alone). The pool had to be sliced in order to get the rest of the bldg.
