Looking at the front page of wissports, UWSP's recruiting class gets even stronger.  I've heard someone mention that Austin Ryf committed to UWSP, that was confirmed but also Alex Erickson of Darlington is joining the class at UWSP.  These two were both very highly ranked and sound like very solid additions for the future.

Has anyone heard about the status of the Tillema brothers at UWSP?  Are they planning on coming back or joining the exodus that was last year's team?

As far as I know, they're coming back.  DT had a twitter post a few weeks back where he was already dreading fall conditioning... it didn't say WHERE, but the attitudes I've seen seem to point to them both returning.

That is awesome news PointSpecial...With Tillemas returning the Pointers have enough of a nucleus back to make some noise.  Without them, it would have been tough.  The huge recruiting class looks very promising as well.

This may have previously been reported, but Luke Collum (6'6" F from G-E-T) is headed to UW-Lax.

I've always assumed the rise in use of (pronouncing) acronyms was at least a major reason why the WSUC became the WIAC! ;D

Forney Independent School District is located about 20 miles east of downtown Dallas.

The original high school Forney High School (FHS) has been the Jackrabbits.  They needed to build a new high school on the north side of town.  It is common in the area to add the direction to the school's name, such as Plano East Senior High (PESH) and Plano West, and McKinney North High School. Alternative nomenclatures include North Mesquite HS or North Garland HS or South Garland HS or West Mesquite HS.

The school board considered numerous options in naming the school and mascot and settled on NFHS Falcons.

My preference was "Gators".  ;)

Forney North High School may have been a bit much.

I know (and get) the joke... but for those wondering, the current name WIAC had more to do with the legacy women's conference (WWIAC) not wanting to lose its identity in the merger.

That's not outlined in the conference history but a fact that I learned inside the WIAC athletic circles.

Interestingly, the women's programs were all members of D-III before the men's were (1993-94 as opposed to 1996-97).

Ralph,

We have that too!  Interestingly, West Bend has two high schools, West Bend West and...you guessed it, West Bend East.  However, they occupy the same building (or at least set of buildings, allowing West and East students to mingle! I'm pretty sure they have different athletic facilities.

Nope. Same facilities. In fact, they share a common gym/fieldhouse and cafeteria. They are really more like one school then two for most practical purposes.

Even West and East are misnomers. Students are assigned to their high school via a random draw. You can be exempt from the random draw if you had an older sibling that already attended or if you have a parent that works in one of the schools.

Yeah.  Wasn't sure about the facilities.  The work colleague I had spoken to several years ago had offspring that attended the school.  The policy has changed over the years according to her.  I believe there was a time when the schools were split up by "which side of the railroad tracks" you lived on and then the every-other-name policy (with family members not split, as you said).

My parents' alma mater was West Seneca High School in West Seneca, NY (a suburb of Buffalo). In 1969 the town built a new high school farther out from the city and dubbed it West Seneca East, renaming the original high school West Seneca West.
