After looking over RF's roster I noticed 2 of their announced incoming recruits are not listed.  Kevin Carlson from Shakopee and Michael Patt from Oshkosh West.

Their roster is loaded with talent and looks like this has to be their year to do some damage.  They will lose 4 very important pieces to the puzzle next year with atleast 3 of them being starters....Guerin, Manor, Anderson and Kimble....IMO, they will be back in rebuilding mode next year unless they have an outstanding recruiting class or if Palmer and Thomforde can carry a team.  I'll get a better judge of that as I will be heading to the game against St Thomas in about a week.

RF looks pretty big and experienced.  Will certainly be a contender for the top spot this year.

Hoops Junkie

no one is mentioning the return of Utke to the UWRF roster who at 6-7 gives them some added depth and muscle,  The Falcons are pretty tough up front with Wade Guerin and Ollie White back, Peterson needs to step up and perform more consistently, but this front court appears to answer a long standing weakness for the Falcons.  The guard play should be good.

Look out for the Falcons

It's true that the Falcons lose key seniors after this season, but in addition to Palmer and Thomforde, Colin Utke (26 vs. EC three years ago as a freshman), Arik Smith, a freshman, Taylor Peterson, a medical red shirt freshman who was injured before the first game last year, and Bo Manor (Shane's brother) are potentially solid performers. Peterson was touted as the number one freshman last year. Smith is considered a back-up point guard this season.

I never realized there were so few WI players on RF, only 3.  They have a lot of talent, size and experience - - should be the favorites.

It's amazing how stats improve over time. I went back and checked Colin Utke's game vs EC in 2008-09 season, the one in which I said he had 26. He actually had 18, including 4/7 on threes. And he averaged 6 ppg and 15 minutes per game.

Game time tonight.  I don't know how strong Lawrence will be but this will help us see where this young UWSP team is.  Any insights or predictions (besides Dan T. scoring 20+)?

... Honestly, if Dan needs to score 20 a game, Point will struggle.  I like him more in the 15-17 range with Tyler at about 13-14 too (either could be higher if they can get to the line more... we'll see if that can happen and if they can stay healthy if it does!)

UWSP beats Lawrence 80-58
CUW beats La Crosse 63-57
SNC beats Oshkosh 65-50
Viterbo beats River Falls 73-63
EC leads SCC 27-17 with 15:52 left in the game(?!?!)
Luther leads Platte 24-19 with 3:22 left in the game.

River Falls' score surprises me... Manor had 21, White had 15, Chris Palmer didn't start, only played 13 minutes and scored just 5 points. Not quite what he'd averaged last year.

Viterbo is now 3-0... not sure if they're supposed to be good this year or not, but they beat what was supposed to be a good RF team.

SP wins 80-58

Not the prettiest game... LU with 19 turnovers, Point with 18

Unofficial stats:

SP 31/59 (52.5%) 9/20 from 3 (45.0%) 9/12 from the line
LU 20/51 (39.2%) 6/19 from 3 (31.6%) 12/19 from the line

Rebounds:  LU 29 (7/22) Point 36 (8/28)

Point led by as many as 27 in the second half.  I was away from the computer but D Tillema got a technical and LU went on a run, cut it to 16 before Point finished strong.

D Tillema had 29 on 10/14 shooting (5/7 from deep) 4/7 from the line.  He also had 8 rebs and 3 TO's (no assists), 2 steals
T Tillema had 11 on 5/7 shooting 4 boards, 7 assists, 4 turnovers, 2 steals
Brezinski had 9, Ryf and Giordana had 8

Way too may turnovers... Brezinski was the only starter with fewer than 2 TOs Ryf also had 4 off the bench.

The pace was really up and down.

LU was pretty much a 3 man show... DeWolfe had 19, Siebert had 15, DePouw had 14

Re-assessment time?  RF loses 73-63 at Viterbo. V. makes 33 throws to RF's 12. Falcons shoot 3/21 on threes. Manor gets 21, White 13. Nobody else in double figures. Falcons start Guerin, Anderson, Manor, White, Kimble.  Falcons had 15 turnovers at half and trailed 31-28. They had 24 or so turnovers at the end. Don't know whether V. pressed, but they did not start a single senior.

V makes 33/39 throws.

One game does not a season make... but it's a pretty interesting result, to say the least.  I'm surprised that Palmer played as sparingly as he did, based on the results he had at St. Mary's.  I wonder if that will change in the future.

Not a great start for the WIAC out of the gate!

Interesting... watching the UW Platte live stats, and Cross isn't in it.  Didn't start, hasn't played.  I wonder if he's hurt or if something else is up.
