Yes, granted it is but one game, and the first one of the year...

But Viterbo beating UWRF could be considered a big win for the young V-Hawks, who were 6-25 last year and are projected as a 7th place team in the conference this year (for what that's worth  ;) )

The V-Hawks are really young this year; they have a bunch of sophomores who have been leading them so far this year, along with a junior who started all 31 games last year...

SP wins 80-58

Not the prettiest game... LU with 19 turnovers, Point with 18

Unofficial stats:

SP 31/59 (52.5%) 9/20 from 3 (45.0%) 9/12 from the line
LU 20/51 (39.2%) 6/19 from 3 (31.6%) 12/19 from the line

Rebounds:  LU 29 (7/22) Point 36 (8/28)

Point led by as many as 27 in the second half.  I was away from the computer but D Tillema got a technical and LU went on a run, cut it to 16 before Point finished strong.

D Tillema had 29 on 10/14 shooting (5/7 from deep) 4/7 from the line.  He also had 8 rebs and 3 TO's (no assists), 2 steals
T Tillema had 11 on 5/7 shooting 4 boards, 7 assists, 4 turnovers, 2 steals
Brezinski had 9, Ryf and Giordana had 8

Way too may turnovers... Brezinski was the only starter with fewer than 2 TOs Ryf also had 4 off the bench.

The pace was really up and down.

LU was pretty much a 3 man show... DeWolfe had 19, Siebert had 15, DePouw had 14

It was pretty ragged at times. Way too many TO's for Point, several unforced, passes to where a man was not, forcing it inside. That should change with more time playing together. Defense played well for the most part, but way too many open shots by LU didn't fall in the second half. Ryf played Ok and Ritchay did well with his minutes. LU has some nice players, but they ain't the WIAC.

RF losing to Viterbo??   Viterbo beat Trinity Christian College 71-68 and Silver Lake College 56-54 and now RF?

Chas Cross is hurt and is out until January.  Also here is a link to my season preview of the WIAC on my blog.

Fortunately for UWRF, the game's essentially a mulligan. Viterbo is an NAIA school, so the game will not count on UWRF's resume as far as D3 in-region games are concerned.

I was shocked that Viterbo beat a WIAC contender.  On the other hand, it was RF's first game and VC's third.

UWL looked unimpressive against Concordia.  Our shooting was atrocious.  And it seemed to me that most of our guards are tentative with the ball when being checked.

We have Viterbo next Tuesday.

It's amazing how stats improve over time. I went back and checked Colin Utke's game vs EC in 2008-09 season, the one in which I said he had 26. He actually had 18, including 4/7 on threes. And he averaged 6 ppg and 15 minutes per game.

It only seemed like more cause all 18 were in the second-half.

Tough opener for the WIAC for sure, definitely an unexpected early wake up call for RF. On a side note, Superior squeaked by Northland College 74-72 in Ashland. Before I had heard about the rest of the WIAC scores I was pretty disappointed with how the inexperienced Jackets played, but they pulled out the W so props to them when other more experienced teams couldn't get it done. Ben Aalfs led the way with 24, otherwise the team looked flat and scared almost at times. It's going to take time for this team to learn how to play without Smith, Helland, Culy, and Roeder carrying the load every night. It could be a rough year for us if the young guys don't figure things out quickly. But, 1-0 looks great regardless of how you got the 1.

Cross's absence until January is a break for all conference teams who play P. before then. Cross is on track to be a dominant big man in the conference.

Falcons' 24 t.o.'s more than in any game last year (19). Don't know how significant that is. A bigger factor was the free throw discrepancy, 33/39 vs. 12/16. As deep as it seemed we are, only three players got double figure minutes off the bench. PG Kimble, however, had 0 turnovers and 5 assists, 5 pts.--very encouraging. Scoring from the guard spot, overall, may suggest a bigger loss in Koonkaew than I thought would be the case.

In the WARHAWK wrap I think you meant the loss of Dustin Mitchell not Dustin Ritchie.
