The WARHAWKS defeated Illinois Wesleyan 65-53.  WHITEWATER scored first and gradually built a ten point lead 27-17 in the first sixteen minutes of the low scoring affair.  Wesleyan rallied at that point and made a 11-0 run to take their only lead of the game 29-28 with just under a minute remaining in the half.  After an Alex Merg free throw tied the score the WARHAWKS created a turnover and Chris Davis sank a three-pointer at the buzzer to make the score 31-28 WARHAWKS at the half.  The lead remained in the 1-8 point range for the first sixteen and half minutes of the second half before Davis sunk a pair of free throws to put the WARHAWKS on top by ten 56-46 and the lead remained in double figures for the remainder of the game.

Merg led all scorers with 16 points and had a game high 6 assists.  Davis finished with a double-double 13 points, 10 rebounds.  Davis also had 4 assists and a game high 4 steals.  Luke Knoble continued to play well with 11 points and 4 rebounds.

The Titans had a higher shooting percentage than the WARHAWKS, 43.5% to 38.2%, and outrebounded the WARHAWKS 40-29 but the WARHAWKS made 8 three-pointers to 5 for the Titans and 24 Titan turnovers gave the WARHAWKS 9 more shots and resulted in 23 points.  Kevin Reed led IWU with 10 points.

It was a very physical game though only 38 total fouls were whistled.  Neither team ever seemed to get into any sort of a rhythm.

I mentioned this on the CCIW board:

I'm very impressed with these students doing the UWW-IWU game.  They do well to sound like UWW's home announcing team without sounding obnoxiously "homer-ish."  They sound very well prepared and have a lot of nice background information.  Not a lot of umms and uhs and dead air. They follow the flow well. Very, very well done.  Kudos.

I agree, the football crew against franklin did well too. Whoever was on color just really loves football. That was clear in the broadcast.

I'm not sure if the webcasts are at all linked to the UWW TV station, but I've seen videos of those broadcasts as well and they are very professionally done, as noted above.  From the commentary, to multi-camera views to the on-screen graphics, it's hard to tell that it is a low-scale production.

RF 68, Pville 57. Chris Palmer, in his first starting role, had a double/double w/12 pts., 12 rbds. Manor led the Falcons in scoring w/13 UNLESS my memory fails me--which is a strong possibility.

UWSP dominated Superior.  Hass had quite a game.

UW-W beat Stout 84-51.  Chris Davis had 29.

La Crosse won fairly easily against Eau Claire.

Don't want to offend anyone, but EC didn't look strong to me.  too many unforced turnovers.  OTOH, their big man gave our front line players fits.

The WARHAWKS never trailed against Stout.  A 16-4 advantage in the paint and a 17-4 advantage in points off of turnovers led to a 42-19 half time lead.  Chris Davis was a force from everywhere on the floor finishing the half with 21 points including 3-4 from beyond the arc.  In the first half Stout had 13 turnovers to 4 assists.  The WARHAWKS meanwhile had 14 assists to 5 turnovers and shot 61% from the floor including 6-9 three-pointers.  Stout shot 25%.  Things didn't go much better for the Blue Devils in the second half.  They did cut down on their turnovers and improve their shooting percentage but the WARHAWK lead increased to a high of 44 points with about 7 minutes remaining before Stout finished with a 17-6 run to the end.

Davis only played 6 minutes of the second half and finished with a game high 29 points.  Eric Bryson added 11.  Alex Merg had a game high 7 assists.  Bryson and Lucas Burns added 5 apiece.  Bryson also had a game high 3 steals.  As a team the WARHAWKS shot 63% from the floor including 11 or 17 three-pointers.  Freshman reserve post player Justin Scanlan tied a game high with 7 rebounds.  Luke Knoble brought the crowd to it's feet with an alleyoop (sp?) dunk that made your jaw drop.

Jarvis Ragland led Stout with 15 points which included consecutive break away thunder dunks.

The officiating in this game was an incredible contrast to that in the women's game which preceded it.  58 fouls were whistled and 70 free throws were shot in the women's game.  In this game there were 26 fouls called and only 22 free throws shot.  It finished with enough time for us to watch the final three quarters of the BADGERS victory over the Michigan State.

The bottom of the conference this year is not good at all and EC can count themselves among that group. In regards to the "fits" comment, makes sense since his name is pronounced Fits-singer. I do love puns.

Strange voting for the top 25 this week. Superior beats traditionally weak teams Finlandia and Northwestern (MN), then loses by 38 points to UWSP and garners 6 points in the poll. River Falls drops 58 points and 8 slots after beating traditionally strong Platteville on the road. Go figure ???

I thought the same thing about RF (though I didn't notice that Superior got some votes).  That's even more strange.

I am shocked that UWS would be receiving Top 25 votes, I can't see any reason from their poor play against Edgewood and UWSP that would encourage or warrant a Top 25 vote. With that said, we'll take all the votes we can get because I fear we may not get any more this year.
