Brian Carroll loves everything old fashioned, including wooden bleachers.

I prefer seating with a back, which helps keep MY back healthy.

I prefer seats too, but we aren't comparing seats with bleachers.  ;D :P  I just think the wooden ones are more comfortable than the plastic ones!  The metal bleachers at Miller park aren't very comfortable either, but at least they have backs.

chmarx, if you've ever been to Whitewater, there is a section that has bleachers with backs, I believe, but you have to be special to sit there, or just go when it's not very full!  :-X

We have sections of the bleachers which do have backs to them.  Generally speaking they're reserved for season ticket holders.  Usually there is room for others as well.

palum

If Oshkosh is redoing their bleachers they should take a look at what Platteville did 2 years ago the have the plastic bleachers on the student side and theater style seats for the first 11 rows on the other side very comfortable.  One down side is it reduced the capacity by 500 but some of that is due to wider walkways because of fire codes

Nice profile on UWSP's PA announcer, Mike Steinwagner, who, at season's end, will retire after 14 seasons behind the mic...

Playing in the auxiliary gym at Trinity University in Austin, Tx. the WARHAWKS defeated Williamette by twenty 89-69.  The WARHAWKS led for most of the first half though Williamette did have a couple of one point leads in the first ten minutes or so.  With Williamette leading 23-22 the WARHAWKS finished the first half with a 25-5 run and a 47-28 lead.  The WARHAWKS shot 61% in the half and had 14 assists.  Williamette reduced the lead to twelve points in the first five minutes of the second half and got within fourteen a couple of times but each time the WARHAWKS responded and pushed the difference to a high of twenty two points before the game ended.  The WARHAWKS finished at 58% from the floor and with 24 assists.

Chris Davis led all scorers with 29 points and pulled down a game high 13 rebounds in 27 minutes.  Cody Odegaard had a pair of three-pointers adding 14 points while Luke Knoble was good for 13 points and Eric Bryson chipped in with 11 points.

Things get tougher for the WARHAWKS tomorrow as they take on #8 ranked Whitworth on a short turn around at 4pm.  Whitworth did not play today.

This tournament was originally meant to be a NWC/WIAC showdown.  Several programs from the two leagues had committed.  However a schedule change moving the tournament to a week earlier than it had been scheduled caused programs from both leagues to drop out.

chmarx: As you know, I always sit in the seats with the backrests. You know this because you are usually sitting next to me. There is a game Thursday, by the way. Also, before the Mitchell Hall gym was given a makeover a few years ago, it was the ugliest gym I'd ever seen. The maroon and gray seats are a big improvement, and so are the new scoreboards over the old one, which was above the floor. I still like Zorn the best. THE classic WIAC venue. Venerable. Like Wrigley Field.

I'm going to date myself but I remember going to a game at Mitchell Hall when it first opened.  I'd never been in a gym as nice as that one was.  A friend of my father knew the coaching staff so after the game I was able to go down to the locker room to meet some of the players.  I remember thinking that this had to be the big time.

Unless they've picked up the Trinity University campus and moved it up Interstate 35, I'm pretty sure your Warhawks were in San Antonio, not Austin.

They didn't do that.  You're right they are in San Antonio.  Our women's team is playing in Austin next week and I just got the two locations mixed up.

The WARHAWKS started cold and trailed 7-0 before getting on the board.  They managed to get to within 2 twice in the first half but a closing run by Whitworth stretched their lead to 9, 33-24 at the midway point.  The WARHAWKS finished the half shooting 25% (7-28) from the floor to 56% (10-18) for Whitworth.  Chris Davis led the way with 14 points.  On a pair of three-pointers from Cody Odegaard and a three point play from Davis the WARHAWKS tied the score 33-33 to start the second half.  Whitworth answered and went back ahead 39-33 but the WARHAWKS stayed hot tying the game twice before  going ahead for good 45-44 on a layup from Quardell Young. The lead gradually grew to double figures with 6:41 to play Whitworth got within nine a couple of times before the game ended with the WARHAWKS up 76-61.  After shooting 25% in the first half the WARHAWKS shot a blistering 71% (17-24) in the second half including 6-8 from beyond the arc.

Davis finished with 22 points.  Merg and Odegaard each added 14 and Young had 10.  Davis and Luke Knoble each had 7 rebounds.  As a team the WARHAWKS had a season low 11 turnovers.

This was a very good win.  Whitworth was ranked 8th and had a significant size advantage in the front court.  Though it doesn't show up in the box score Eric Bryson had an excellent game defensively as he held Whitworth's leading scorer well below his season average.

Any thoughts on how UWSP is going to handle the Tommies 6'8" center who seems to be their main man?

Pack the low post with defenders and force St Thomas to beat you from outside.  Weakside help whenever possible.

Of course you could just have one of your bench players, who you never use anyway, kick him in the crotch.  ;D
