VW up by 5 at half.  Don't know why i'm streaming this game.  Probably because MN is playing MI and Syracuse is lying about some other scandal against the bullies of Cincinatti!

GO HAWKS!

BoBo

Warhawks with an 11 point win, 67-56 over Wheaton. Wheaton cut into a 16 point halftime WW lead but could get no closer than 5 down the stretch. UWW vs VW tomorrow.

Nice win by the Warhawks tonight!

On a completely different note... I found two pretty old vids of UWSP basketball on Youtube tonight that I thought some might enjoy:

Justin Freier Highlight tape and UWSP vs. UW Platteville from the 92-93 season.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sf9EJkDXagE

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-M_410emzQ8

A few things to note that I didn't know... Point apparently used to play up-tempo and press (!) and the bleachers were on the opposite side of the court as they are now.  And some of those crowds look enormous.  Others... not so much.  And apparently the games used to be televised (maybe just locally?  or tape delayed?  Who knows?)

Speaking of enormous... it's awesome seeing two huge guys the size of Freier and Lothian out on the court together!

I also think I have a Semling sighting... 1:18 of the first video... same sequence is at :21 of the second vid.

Congrats the the Warhawks. You played great defense and that's why you are moving on.

The UWW broadcasters need to do some homework before they go on the air. They butchered over half the pronunciations of Wheaton's roster during the broadcast. They used 2 or 3 variations for Jeremy Pflederer and Nate Serenious. They never once got Spencer Schultze's name correct. Most of that despite the PA announcer occasionally using the proper pronunciation. It really isn't hard to go over the other team's radio crew or SID (they are all within 50 feet of where you are sitting) and go through the roster for proper pronunciations.

Again, congrats to UWW on a hard earned win and good luck tonight.

I had the sound down so I didn't hear the broadcast. I do agree though that announcers should take the time in advance of the game to learn pronunciations- it doesn't take much effort.

This was the first UWW hoops game I watched this year. The first half Hawks were a fun team to watch. The second half Hawks.... Of course Wheaton's D and situation had a lot to do with that as well.
Does the big fella Davis fire from 3 often?  Maybe he's a better shooter than last night showed, but those attempts last night looked no different than a turn over to me. I hope they play a bit smarter tonight and keep up the defensive pressure.

Actually, you should give the guys some slack... they were broadcasting their second straight game.  They had done the VWU/Whitworth game immediately preceding the Wheaton/Whitewater one.  ... Did the Wheaton radio crew or SID provide a pronunciation guide?

These are college kids, trying to do the best they can in the situation.  No, it wasn't perfect, but I think that they would be the first to admit that. I think that they did a darn good job for the circumstance.

Davis is 55/130 from 3 (42.3%) on the year.  WW has played 26 games... that's better than 2 made 3's per game.  He went off for 29+ points 7 times this year... much more than just a one dimensional threat... but shooting from 3 is one of his weapons.

I didn't start watching until the second half... I think whenever a team shoots 60% (like WW did in half #1 last night) they're going to look darn good doing it.  What impressed me was Whitewater's defense against a determined Wheaton team.  Wheaton shot considerably better in the second half (they were 50% while Whitewater cooled off to 41%) but Whitewater kept the pressure on Wheaton and caused another 7 turnovers (after forcing 13 in the first half).

I was at the game last night and was impressed with the Hawks as well as the student section.  It was a fun atmosphere.  I think this is the best defensive UW-W hoops team we have had in awhile.

I thought Edmunds was big last night.  There was a point later in the second half when Wheaton was pushing UW-W pretty hard and he made plays on both ends of the court that brought things back under control for the Warhawks.

The Wheaton crew was led by Rusty Lindsey and he is very good. No question he asked the SID or the UWW radio crew for pronunciations before the game. It's not hard and every decent radio team does this prep. Takes about a minute. The announcers were fine in terms of cadence and knowledge but when 99% of the listeners are supporters of the teams playing (and most of those the visiting team when the home team is playing) it makes it pretty tough to give them any kind of good grade. I have heard plenty of college kids, wasn't looking for perfect, just respectable. Not knowing how to pronounce 2 of the visiting team's starters is pathetic in my view.

Congrats to Whitewater!  I told my friend, seldom poster Swampgoon, before the brackets even came out, that they would be in the Final Four.  Go WIAC!

...in the first half!!  VWU played a little D on him in the second . . . but forgot about Davis.  Nice win . . . on to Salem.  ;)

How do you forget about Davis? Oops.

Admittedly, I'm not the biggest Whitewater fan.  I think they are Point's biggest rivals.  But, as a WIAC fan, I'm really happy for the conference having another chance to add a championship trophy.

It's definitely a NEW Final Four with two 1st time participants in Cabrini and MIT.  IWU hasn't been there for a few years, but they were a big underdog just to get into the tourney.  Whitewater, of course, has been there before, but many years ago.
