From rumors and reading things online, it looks like Whitewater's recruiting looks like this:

Ron Patten Whitefish Bay/Walk on at Milwaukee
Darnell Harris Milwaukee Hamilton
Nick Olson Brookfield Central
Andrew Sommerville Janesville Parker

Anybody hear anyone else??

With looking at the other WIAC schools' recruiting classes, it really seems to me that Point and Whitewater are separating themselves talent wise for the near future after last year being a closer conference race.

As a Point fan, I'm extremely intrigued with who they are bringing in this year.  I wanted them to get size, I don't think they could have done a better job.  Going to Point:

Clayton Heuer 6'9"  UWGB/Wisconsin Rapids
Dan Studer 6'8"  Germantown
Ross Thorn 6'8"  Three Lakes
Sean McGann 6'4"  Baraboo
Rumored:  2 guards from Illinois

Just trying to get some conversation going, what is everyone expecting from the WIAC this year??  Like I alluded to earlier in this post, I really expect it to be a 2 horse race and next year's games between Point and Whitewater will be must sees.

WBCA All-Star games were today:

D-1 98-64 South beat the North LINK

D-2 98-79 South beat the North LINK
   McGann - 8 Pts (3/6 shooting), 2/5 FT, 5 RB (1/4), 1 Assist, 2 TO, 1 Bl, 2 St

D-3 93-70 South beat the North LINK

D-4 82-64 South beat the North LINK
   Thorn - 4 Pts (2/7 shooting), 0/3 FT, 12 RB (6/6), 0 Assist, 2 TO, 0 Bl, 0 St

I think those were the only future Pointers in the games. Feel free to post the stats of other recruits.

Not much you can draw from games like these... South beat the North across the board by significant margins, doesn't appear like there was a whole lot of defense.

Both future Pointers missed 3 free throws... that will need to be improved upon. Glad to see Thorn with 12 boards including 6 offensive, but you'd like to see him get some easy putbacks (perhaps he missed, got his own board, missed, got his own board, etc etc).

OK, so the takeaway is that these guys need to work on their free-throw shooting...?

The WARHAWKS 2012-13 schedule has been posted (probably for a while now).
In addition to the conference schedule we will be playing Beloit , Illinois Wesleyan University, Aurora and either Carthage or Iowa Wesleyan (Carthage Tourney), Edgewood and St Norbert.  Also a tourney in St Norbert against teams to be determined.

Point is normally the last to post theirs, usually in October. I was talking to a member of the Coaches Committee in early September of last year and at that point he said there were still two games to be scheduled. Something about no one wanted to play home & home series against us.

Coach Sem has had scheduling issues for at least the past 3 or 4 seasons, if not longer.

Maybe Whitewater had issues too, I only count 24 games.

They play the Pointers on 12/12/12. Hopefully the game ends before the world does.  ;D  ;)

Point reveals eight newcomers for next year's team:  http://www.stevenspointjournal.com/article/20120622/SPJ02/206220358/Pointers-men-s-basketball-Semling-sizes-up-recruiting-class?odyssey=mod|newswell|text|FRONTPAGE|s

Robert Demeyers is from Aurora Central Catholic and played center for the Chargers at 6'5" and regularly scored and rebounded in double figures. He also averaged 7 blocked shots a game as a junior. I don't know if he has an outside shot, but could he be another Jared Jenkins?

Connor Miklasz is a 5'10" guard from Hersey HS in Arlington Heights. Playing for Harper College in Palatine, IL (NJCAA), he started in 27 games, averaging 9 pts, 4.5 asst and 1.6 steals per game. Doesn't look like a formidable schedule that the Hawks played last year (MATC beat them 2 out of 3), but Connor was one of the team leaders.

Still searching for info on Bill Patterson, but the question for next year is what will the roster look like??  They only lost 2 of the 14 via graduation, so these 8 additions would make 20 players, and we know that won't happen. The bottom six on the roster played only 238 minutes total so that would be the first place I'd look. Interesting competition ahead for sure.

Yeah... it makes it difficult when there's a William Patterson University!

Re: Connor Miklasz... Here's a write-up on him after his senior season:

http://www.dailyherald.com/article/20110310/sports/703109831/

Quote
Connor Miklasz Hersey

If Miklasz was playing well it usually meant the same was true for Hersey. The senior point guard averaged 13.6 points, 5.1 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.4 steals and hit 45 3-pointers as the Huskies reached the regional finals. "In terms of a fastbreak point guard he ranks up there," said coach Steve Messer. "His vision of the court is tremendous and he reads defenses really well. His timing is excellent."

Demeyers

Here's a piece from last May (after his Junior season)

http://beaconnews.suntimes.com/sports/4210573-419/demyers-leads-aurora-centrals-postseason-charge.html

Quote
DeMyers looked at ACC [Aurora Central Catholic] when he was in eighth grade but stayed in district and attended Waubonsie Valley as a freshman. On the way to school on Sept. 30 of that year, he was struck by a car while crossing Route 34 near Eola Road and suffered a broken leg (tibia) and several broken bones in his wrist.

While he had played AAU ball since fifth grade with the Illinois Attack, DeMyers couldn't return to the court until January of that year.

"I only got to play in something like six games," he said.

He didn't like the way things were going socially and in the classroom and transferred to ACC for his sophomore year. Since his family didn't move out of District 204, he couldn't play basketball that season.

So, it looks like he may have some room to grow, only really playing two seasons of basketball.

Thanks for the link Fro...let the speculation begin

That is a bigger recruiting class than I expected.  There was a few of the freshman last year that I was impressed with and thought had some huge potential, I hope those few guys will be back.  Guys like Lutz, Ryf, Ritchay, Forsythe and Richard are the freshman I am talking about.

With hoping those freshman continue their UWSP careers being said, there looks to be some impressive recruits coming.  This offseason I was concerned about point guard depth and size in the post.  They addressed both.  Getting 4 guys atleast 6'7" is big time for a D3 program.  I expect Studer and Heuer to play right away with Thorn possibly needing a year to adjust from lower division high school ball to big time D3 college ball.  I don't know anything about Patterson but I like what I've read.

DeMyers is another guy that sounds extremely talented from reading about him, excited to see what he brings to the table.  At 6'5", does he have any wing skills??  Or is he strictly a back to the basket guy??  He sure has impressive rebound and block numbers.

Point guard depth should be in good hands with the additions of Miklasz and Parker.  Not much else to say about them until the season starts and we see if they log any minutes or not.  Anyways, great job to the staff at Point.  I'm again impressed with the athletes they continue to attract to Point.  I realize Point might be an easy sell to high school athletes with their tradition, especially in Men's Basketball, but it is still impressive to me to get continually get the top guys from Wisconsin who don't get scholarships along with pulling some kids from Illinois this year.

There's more info on the Point website:

The Kent Dernbach hire appears to be paying some early dividends with FOUR recruits from IL (Demeyers, Parker, Miklasz, and Bill Patterson is from IL as well).

QuotePatterson, a 6-8 forward from Mount Carmel High School in Illinois, helped lead his team to a 2011 Chicago Catholic League Championship. He was a Chicago Catholic League All-Star and All-Conference player as a senior and was named the league's co-defensive player of the year. Patterson averaged 12.5 points, 9.2 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per contest during his senior campaign.
