Any chance Juckem talks some of the past kids into rejoining the program.  Help me with names....Brian Washington, Oshkosh West kid (about 6-6), kid from Sheb. North that transferred from a Minnesota D2, Brian Gregory, WI Dells guard, Mageland.  Who am I missing?

BW - Will bet Gaubatz didn't take the news well.  He's been there a long time and probably felt he deserved a shot at the top job.

Also the Kolf Fieldhouse at Oshkosh is currently being gutted and will get new bleachers and a new floor.

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
You didn't like the bonus carnival ride that you used to get with the price of admission? The administration and I thought that it would take a serious injury before the bleachers were dealt with. Those conversations were from 2005-07. Glad we were incorrect. Not entirely sure how major injuries were avoided, but the higher-ups at UWO have been concerned about Kolf seating for a long time – long before our conversations.

The seating/floor renovations were finally approved (for nearly $1.5 million) in 2010. A campus construction update said the bleachers weren't ADA compliant, and the floor hadn't been redone in 40 years. Better late than never. Then again UWO has upgraded other facets in the recent past (new and renovated housing, new Wellness Center, new academic building, new parking structure, new facilities management location, new pedestrian areas, etc.), but man, Kolf needed some work. Nothing on par with the floor and seating, but there are a few other things in the project that will also help clear the clutter.

Now let's get some lights at the baseball stadium. And this time don't leave it up to the baseball program to raise all of the funds, like it did with the Alumni Stadium construction project.

Beyond just basketball the highly successful indoor track and field teams deserve a top flight facility so they could host conference meets. This is great news.

Great hire by UWO, tough call between Juckem and Aanonsen but it appears UWO is headed in the right direction. Not so sure about challenging UWW and UWSP as others have suggested but the right track none the less. As for some of the players that left the program. Washington left school for reasons outside of bball, not sure if Sheboygan native TJ Kellner is at UWO anymore, Jade Roytson of Dells fame was suspended for the final 3 games of last season and left the team but is still at UWO, the others are still at UWO but I'm not sure if they'll come back or if Juckem will want them back. Don't get me wrong they would have likely prevented last years team from 0-16 but it's not like they were world beaters either. We'll just have to wait and see.

That would be my guess as well but I don't know anything about the situation.  It is interesting that no one who has commented during the process or since the hire has mentioned his name.

He was the lead recruiter of a team that went 0-16, not a ringing endorsement.

True 0-16 isn't a ringing endorsement.  However he was also the lead recruiter who brought in Tim Dworak, DJ Marsh and Dennis Ruedinger argueably three of the best players in UW-O history.  The lead recruiter who between 1996-2009 brought in the athletes that compiled a .701 winning percentage, had 14 straight winning seasons and made 5 NCAA post season appearances.  He's had considerable success as the lead recruiter.

But they decided to go in a different direction which is certainly their perogative.

Maybe I'm off on this but from what I've heard about the situation TVD did a high level of recruiting for most of his tenure and only recently delegated much of that responsibility to Gaubatz. Again that is mostly hearsay (which is what message boards are built on afterall  ;)) but what I do know to be true is that a notable former player who was rumored to be in the running for the job early on said that he wasn't passionate about getting the job but was passionate that Gaubatz not get the job, something I found very interesting. And this should go without saying but I'll say it anyway, I have nothing against Gaubatz as a person, I've interacted with him a few times and he's been more than accommodating but I think after a season like UWO had a major culture change is what was needed.

You know how you have a crush on a girl, but you never tell her and pretty soon you're stuck in the "friend zone". You've been around for so long that now she can't see you as anything but a friend. I think that's where Gaubatz is. He's been the loyal, quiet assistant for so long, that UW-Oshkosh can't see him as anything else. Nothing about him screams "I should be your head coach!"

I see River Falls, Stout, Eau Claire, Whitewater and Oshkosh have released their 2012-2013 schedules. Oshkosh starts off their WIAC season at home against Stevens Point December 5 and plays a tourney in Las Vegas a couple weeks later. Pat Juckem has his first test in a November 7 exhibition in Madison against Wisconsin.

UWL adds some badly needed size to the roster with two transfers and a high school recruit. 6'9 SF Cale Zuiker has transferred from D1 Youngstown State, where he played sparingly as a freshman. The 190 pound Zuiker was named All-state at Marshfield High, and appears to be a bona-fide 3 pt threat. 6'7 PF-C Nick Romanowski has left UWP to join the Eagles, and will be joined by Wayzata MN recruit Chad Potas, who plays both the 4 and 5 slots. The young gentleman is 6'6. I look forward to watching them play for the Eagles.

I would imagine Cale Zuiker is related to Joe ('01) and Bill ('81) Zuiker of UWSP.

Anybody know?

EDIT: Yep, son of Bill.

PS,

You are correct, Cale is Bill's son and Joe is his cousin.  Another former Pointer was Bill's brother Pete who played right after Bill and was a pretty decent player as well.  Would have liked to have Cale with UWSP but that's the way it goes.  He'll help the Eagles.

I don't know anything about Potas, but Zuiker and Romanowski are some big time gets for the La Crosse program.  They may take a year to get acclimated but down the road will be a formidable front line.  I sure am glad Point loaded up on size this year too with what is coming into the WIAC in this year's recruiting classes.

Why would Zuiker take any more time than then say Heuer to get acclimated?  Zuiker and Heuer both are big guys who have a tendency to drift outside - will be interesting to see who asserts themselves as a legitimate inside post threat!
